      L v you can tighten the wheels a bit so they don’t roll as much. Before careful though because you don’t wanna tighten them too much. I would say try maybe half a turn. Make sure you’re bending your knees and not leaning forward or backwards. I had that problem for a long time. Just kept rolling backs and not knowing why. 😭

    I got my first roller skating shoes after years of waiting because Mom prevented me when I was 12. I am in my thirties now. I tried them this morning and it was very funny indeed. I couldn't control myself and each leg went to another side. I was holding a stick and only walked a few steps without sliding. Sometimes they push me backward while I am struggling to step. Hilarious!

    Wheels, wheels, wheels....I know this video is about 9 months old but newbies coming by remember you need outdoor wheels for the outside- they are softer and able to handle small rocks, twigs etc....indoor wheels are much harder and designed for indoors only- they are too hard for outside it will slow you down dramatically and much easier to lose balance when you come across small rocks, twigs, cracks in cement etc.....I only mention this because she said it was so much easier to skate indoors and outside took more effort- almost always that is because she probably needed softer wheels outside.

    I think this is very brave of you to put this video out (that's not being mean, read on), with the mistakes and learning from those mistakes you do, good for you. This is brave in the sense that a lot of us wouldn't dare as we would all be embarrassed to have a video of us learning out on the internet, you just did it regardless.
    As for employers, whether you are employed or not, this shows them a lot about you. Brave to do that where others wouldn't be, this means you have a lot of confidence whether you realise it or not. You're calm and collected, work things out in your own mind of how to do things that suit you. You show far more skills than you realise and some have nothing to do with skating specifically but rather in general, adaptability to situations, these are some good skills that you should also build upon, a good employer alone would help you greatly there and recognise these things and that is just one area of your life that could be affected in a positive way. This video says a lot about how you think just by watching and listening carefully to what you say. Right or wrong (I don't know what is right or wrong btw when it comes to skating), you go by what you feel is right and what is comfortable. The best part is, this is you naturally and showing this about you in a natural way. You had a goal, you never said you would be down the skate park doing half pipes etc. in 30 days. Your goal was to skate and you did that, you met your own deadline. You show some of us skills that most overlook.
    I found it intriguing tbh. To watch this kind of video and the learning process we all go through in other areas, but showing the world from your perspective is fantastic. Well Done.
    Personally I never got on with quads, I prefer inline and did some for a little bit 20 years ago, before that some ice skating but nothing on a pro level.
    I have been thinking about taking up skating again which is why your video popped up, it was very nice to watch. Thank you.

    I been skating consistently for a year now although I have skated in the past as well-- on inlines (hockey and speed skates)
    I'm on a local speed skating team and I go on hockeys at session (public skate at a roller rink) for fun.
    Speed skates have a much tighter boot- lower cut and much larger wheels.
    Hockey skates are the opposite.
    I'm not on a hockey team but I use my hockey skates at session because I dont have freestyle skates yet. I go to skate for roughly 12 hours a week.
    I am able to do these tricks on my hockey skates primarily (some on speed skates but it's much harder):
    Eagle (both directions)
    Backwards + backwards crossover (both directions)
    Grapevine (actually really difficult to learn-- when backwards crossing you pull out your foot and hold it there until you are forced to turn)
    Scooter
    I am currently learning the Johnny. (Scooter with one leg out and leaning back)

      Day 1 I went to the roller rink and tried to learn. I grabbed on to the wall most of the night. Then my friend showed me how to position my feet and step. That got me moving a little bit. At home, I had nothing to grab onto so I was on my own. Im sure with practice, a little everyday, you will become a great skater.

    • @stinky5242
      @stinky5242 5 років тому +4

      For me, I started learning when I was 4 (14 now). When I first started I went to a local roller rink and use their quads (different from inlines). I could barely move, so I held onto the wall.
      Now to learn just hold onto something and push your feet out. One foot at a time. Diagonally. Once you push your right foot out, pick up your left and push out to the left side. It's kind of like skating like a penguin. When you first start bend your knees. It's ok I'd you have to hold onto a wall. It's hard at first, but once you get the hang of going forward try to learn cross overs.
      Crossovers are where at turns you pick up your feet and put it over your other one. Like if I'm going clock wise, I would pick up my right foot and put it over my left. Its kind of hard to describe with words, but I hoped that helped.
      Also, there are different types of wheels. Outdoors and indoors. Personally, I have a set of outdoors and indoor wheels for my hockey and speed skates. If you are intending on skating outside, get some skates that have outdoor wheels hehe.
      For beginners, I recommend using recreational inlines. They are pretty common at a sports store like academy.

Wear a helmet, you could easily become a no-brainer without one! And believe me, concussion is not fun, even at your age (been there, done that a long time ago!). A slightly hot head is better than a mushed head.

    what stopping method did you use when you were still figuring stuff out?? I'm kinda stuck at the moment because I have seen a lot of hate and warnings for pretty much every method of stopping and because of that I mostly just try to stay slow and crash into the curb when I need to (which isn't ideal).. the fact you improved so much is really commendable!!

    • @courtcat3
      @courtcat3  5 років тому +1

      Hey, I had to learn to use my front toe stop and dragging my foot behind me. I used my dominant skating foot and twist it to form the T stop while applying pressure to only my toe stop. I have to be careful with my right skate because it has a back stopper too and that causes complications. I tried to get in the hang of the T stop and it puts a lot of pressure on my ankles, so I don't do that as often.

    • @ameliashaw6357
      @ameliashaw6357 5 років тому +3

      hi! any method of stopping where you DO NOT use your toe stop is safe. Unless you’re at a point where you can either skate backwards or transition from forwards to backwards. Using your toe stop when skating forwards is a real easy way to end up with a broken ankle. A t stop is to me the easiest stop, but a plow stop is the quickest. The best way to get good at stopping isn’t just to use a stop when you need to stop, you need to practice the stop on its own by skating a few feet and then stopping. You can also learn a knee tap/slide if you have knee pads. You should be able to LOWER (not drop or your knees will get BUSTED) yourself onto one knee and recover (in roller derby you have to be able to recover within 3 seconds.) And above all else STAY LOW. You aren’t going to be able to do ANY stop with any sort of stability unless your knees are bent.

    This is inspiring to me! I had skates but was to scared for a year to ride them after my fall! Now I can ride them but still getting used to them.

    skating is one of thos things that after just 2 hours you can get so much better practice makes perfect.tip the more relaxed you are the easer it will be.(and you will look like a natral)

    Maybe when trying the crossovers, try getting low instead of standing. It helps with balance n if you fall, you’ll fall forward.. which is good falling backwards is not good.. know from experience. But overall great job
