Besides, we have three episodes of Part 2 right now. Just three.
So your saying this was the first of many murders, when the truck driver caught their taste for blood shed and running over ragged looking idiots on the street.
That leads to the assumption that all "hit by a truck" isekai anime manga and series are actualy all part of one big isekai univerce. Its actualy one pig Isekai with multiple protagonists. And the God of the univerce is that Truck driver who keeps hiting people right into another world.
I just binged the series yesterday out of boredom, and I got to say that the story is well written albeit fast-paced. Every character is doing their best to be good despite their shortcomings, and that is very relatable. It's the first isekai anime I have watched fully to its length. I have watched snippets of Rimuru's isekai but never really had much time to finish it due to responsibilities as an adult. Yeah the perverted scenes are disgusting, but it is also real that these things are hard to fight, given further the background of the character. And you know, I really look forward for the MC to become a better person, aside from being a powerful magic user, just like how we in real life struggle to rid ourselves of our rotten sides. I never knew that it was one of the firsts to popularize the isekai genre though.
I don't think it's fast paced even in the slightest. What I got from it is that the story is just "isakei, minus the stuff that deliberately slows shows down like beach or sauna episodes". There's nothing in the show that I'd call "pointless" plot-wise (except SOME of the ecchi, but even then it's limited to very short segments). There's always something going on, and it's ALWAYS driving the story forward.
I guess this was meant to be reincarnated instead of transmigrated. Right on top of my head I can think of kumo desu ga, slime, the eminence in shadow aaaaaand... Youjo Senki. Though it's true, transmigration is used a lot more.
after the full 23 episodes have come out I can confidently say that the anime is sooo good. It shows the emotion hardships adventures, just everything about it is amazing. And yes they continued using the LN.
I don't know why but I feel spoiled, even though I have already finished the series and have read most of the side stories--redundancy was really good. But yeah, pretty excited to see how they handle it. Plus the comedy that's going to be that scene really makes me chuckle to myself.
Whats great about this story is that you follow Rudeus the MC literally from birth to death, not like some manga where the MC get overpowered while he is still a teen or a kid.
Rudeus is quite overpowered since very young. However, although in that world magic is basically omnipotent, magicians themselves are not. Which is an important distinction and a line that gets reinforced as the story unfolds.
nah whats great is Rudeus adventure. A lot of overpower MC don't even have a purpose. They are just wondering around doing random crap. Great example Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsod. Others like So what i'm a spider have a purpose and is a great watch and read.
@@alzef1375 compared to the likes of Ainz and Rimuru, Rudeus is not overpowered. Sure against regular humans and beastmen opponents, he's OP but when it comes to the strong ones, I believe Rudy never faced them one on one and he also got his ass handed to him a number of times. He is also not good at everything. Sure for a magician, he's probably at emperor/god level but his swordsmanship is only intermediate-saint at best. There are also opponents who he cannot beat even after a 2nd face off and by the end of the series he is nowhere near the strongest. And all of this is a breath of fresh air tbh. The overpowered isekai mc trope has kind of gotten really boring minus slime and overlord since how it was used was different.
@@charlienewns1308 there are only 7 episodes, if you want to know more either read the manga which is still not complete or read the web novel/light novel
Actually, SAO is much older than every other light novel Isekai(including Jobless Reincarnation and Log Horizon), since the original novel series is as old as 2002, and the light novels of SAO came during 2009, meanwhile, the light novels of every other light novel Isekai franchises came after during the 2010s, plus SAO introduced all all of the tropes, traditions, and gimmicks that would later be seen in all of the other Isekai light novel franchises, hence why SAO is considered to be the forefather of light novel Isekai franchises(and it’s also the oldest and long running light novel Isekai, as well as the most popular)!
Laughs in MKR, Escaflowne, Fushigi Yuugi... Etc... Oh and if we would literally be talking about really old isekai themes, then Dunbine is literally one of the oldest which debuted waaaaay back in 1983.
Another great review. I noted from the background music [I am guessing from public domain selections] an early snippet of Lizst's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, a piano piece played by so many cartoon characters, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Woody Woodpecker, among others. A nice touch, as a classical music, and animation fan. Even though your production quality and speed is a viewing 'hook', turnaround in real time with first take errors uploaded [Isekai/shonen, oops], the finished product has its own unique charm, and you do put thought into content that is noticed and enjoyable to watch [can't say that about too many Ytubers]. Best to you.
Im currently following the anime, and honestly, it's very refreshing to see an isekai about a character that doesnt remind me of "fug, a life like that would be neat", and more of "yeah, the bottom sucks bro, and not even hard work is gonna make that miserable life just dissapear"
Hahaha, I get what you mean but really... like anime sound design is usually so forgettable or just doesn’t sound like they tried. That’s why even after all these years I remember how good DanMachi sounded, and yeah, the water here is SO FUCKING NICE!
I'm glad people talking about this anime and I'm glad the studio's animating this actually did a superb job. Rudy's journey along the way facing his insecurities and his past and along the way he gets stronger. He's not naive not annoying and some what extent he's just a new guy starting a new life ahead of him. This story is probably the best one for me and hope people will read the novel or continue watching it on LEGAL websites like Muse Asia.
I know right, I picked up the novel after episode 2 and finished it until the current translations. I liked it a whole lot and went on to read the WN. WN is okay, not bad, not that amazing. It focuses more on harem building after a while and beating the BBEG.
I still can't comprehend how this show is on UA-cam !! Like officially as well. But tbh this is actually good because a lot of more people can watch it and maybe support it directly.
I'm just so happy that this is finally getting adapted. I literally cried tears of joy when I watched the first episode. Because this show resonated with me. It made me wanna try harder at life to never give up. I was this close to ending my life. But I found this Light novel. I couldn't stop reading it. It gave me something to look forward to. When I finally finished the novel. I looked back at my life. Did I really try hard at life like Rudy did? Short story, I got over my depression went to seek therapy. Really tried to better my life. And right now. I can't say I'm happy. But I feel alive!!!!!
Absolutely same story for me. That's why I love this story so much. Rudy's situation in his past life, as well as his thoughts and internal dialogues (his regrets, his anxiety, even his perversion) reminded me so much of my own situation, it felt so real. And seeing someone so similar to me try so hard and so earnestly gave me the inspiration to try again.
I never heard of this LN before, and when I saw the anime on funimation tbh I only picked it up because I was bored and waiting for new episodes on anime I was ACTUALLY watching at the time. now this show is the only reason i'm paying my funimation subscription, and it is incredible. I 100% did not expect this from an isekai, but it is honestly refreshing, and I adore the art style.

That's only a real problem if it breaks your immersion or just breaks the story, like in the new Wonder Woman movie, where she gives her speech to the entire world... In English.
To be fair, English is the second most widely spoken language only because China has so many people. What really gets me is how the default for nearly every fantasy movie/show is to make everyone British. Just once, I want someone to really pull the rug out from under me and make everyone speak with Italian accents or something

This anime gives me a strong "ascendance of a bookworm" quality vibe. Strong world, strong characters, and a fascinating story. I'm waiting to dive into the light novels until the anime concludes, but once that's done it's game on!
I still prefer the world building and overall story in Bookworm, but the anime quality is clearly better in Mushoku Tensei. Also the best mix of all the adaptations in Bookworm is the manga (best mixed baby to use the analogy of the video), which is hilarious with the manga of Mushoku Tensei being the worst adaptation of the story. Overall, read the manga for Bookworm and watch the anime for Mushoku Tensei and you get the best of both stories, at least so far we can tell at this point.
@pycl Saying if you have read Bookworm or not is not a spoiler, but by avoiding the question you answered that. You just blindly fanboy one thing without having knowledge of the other, that is what is going on here.
@@zomfgroflmao1337 I’ve read both, in the light novel form, and can safely say that both Bookworm and Mushoku tensei can be rated as two of the most delicate isekais out there. However, this is talking about the light novel adaptation, as I have not read the manga of bookworm. These two books are often the top two that are recommended to people interested in the genre of isekai in my country. However, I do recommend that, if you have not yet read the light novel of Mushoku, it is too early to judge which one you like more. I would say the best part of Mushoku Tensei lies somewhere that manga or anime has not, and will not touch on soon yet. Bookworm, on the other hand, is also really delicate in story-building, but is also extraordinary in a sense completely different to Mushoku, I would say. All in all, bookworm or Mushoku, I’d recommend anyone to read the novel if they’re ever interested in the series after watching anime or reading manga. Adaptations can only rarely bring out full potentials of their original works, and I say this even for Mushoku Tensei so far.

So he doesn't really inspire me, nor do I look up to him. It's like looking up to Bill Gates. Sure he's rich and gives a lot of money to Charity, but he was already wealthy from the beginning so it's kind of like, "Yeah, I'd probably do something like that if I had a head start."

I really don't get the whole "grandfather of Isekai" thing... At least according to Wikipedia, Mushoku Tensei's WN started in November 2012. Which is later than at least 3 of the series shown on 1:10. (Re: Zero, Shield Hero, and Isekai Cheat Magician) And Konosuba is from December 2012. Konosuba, which is supposedly making fun of the tropes started by Mushoku Tensei, started a month after it. (A bit too soon if Mushoku Tensei was really the series starting those tropes, don't you think?) Rather than the start of a trend, it feels much more like Mushoku Tensei is just going along with the current trend. And turning some of those tropes up to 11. If we are talking about the Isekai trend starter, wouldn't that probably be SAO? The WN is from 2002, (The same year as the .Hack series, which, coincidently or not, has a similar premise.) the LN is from 2009, and the anime adaptation is from July 2012 - before Mushoku Tensei even started being published, if the info on Wikipedia is correct. I remember A LOT of Isekai stories starting to pop up around that time, all following the pattern of "high school otaku/gamer boy gets transported to generic fantasy land (usually either inside a video game, or with a few clear video game "mechanics") where he proceeds to become an OP hero, build his harem and live the otaku power fantasy. Which, yeah, SAO wasn't the first Isekai either (Inu Yasha, the Twelve Kingdoms, Wizard of Oz, and Dante's Inferno all predate it by at least a couple of years) but I feel like it was the series that made Isekai really blow up in JP. I don't think Mushoku Tensei did anything particularly novel... I mean, the whole "being reborn as a baby, and having to learn a new language from the start" felt different, but that was it. I do think it is a good execution of Isekai tropes, though. Or at least the first 6 volumes of the LN were. The rest of the WN, not so much. Maybe the LN adaptation improved it, I don't know, I might check out the more recent volumes sometime. Anyway, if someone can explain why would Mushoku Tensei gets called "the grandfather of Isekai" I'd appreciate it, because so far it only seems like misinformation to me.
You’re exactly right. The reason it’s often touted as the “Grandfather of Isekai” is because it popularised a lot of the common troupes we see in Isekai nowadays. No it wasn’t the first one to do it but it was one that got popular enough that everyone started to do it. Also I’d hardly say Konosuba is parodying Isekai troupes more like it exploits it for comedy. SAO may have come first and was definitely more popular but it’s missing a lot of the troupes we see in most Isekai now. The whole truck-kun , dying and being reincarnated into another world, magic and swords fantasy world with elf’s and weird animal people are all missing from SAO (well technically it is a magic and swords fantasy world but it’s still very distinct from the typical fantasy world).
@@aussieboy4279 Lol no. Most troupes are already in any anime. SAO started the trend for isekai, harem, fucking OP, otaku/gamer goodlooking neet . Also tanya was release the same year as mushoku. Same premise except she got hit by train.
It's ironic how mushoku tensei was one of the early series that spread isekai yet it's animation came out the latest when isekai animes are drying out rn
@@ashkirby8896 Most modern fantasy isekai borrow much more heavily from stuff like mushoku tensei tho. SAO was very influential in establishing initial tropes for 'other world' stuff - but I'd argue the modern isekai genre tends to often borrow more from mushoku. And by 'modern isekai genre', I mean the shows people actually categorise primarily as isekai. Series like SAO, Log Horizon, even kinda Digimon, and whatnot - are technically early isekai, but most people wouldn't consider them primarily being in the 'isekai genre', if you get my drift.
@@HiHi-iu8gf SAO is what popularized “novel and light novel based” Isekai franchises, and introduced all of the tropes seen in later light novel based Isekai franchises, such as the protagonist being an otaku, shut in, or a neet, being trapped in a fantasy world(the Aincrad and Alicization arcs are prime examples of this), the protagonist being super powerful and overpowered(although in each major arc of SAO, Kirito had to restart his skills from scratch and regrind his way back to the top, although near the end of the second part of the Alicization arc during the War of the Underworld part, he gains a new God Mode form that combines his selves from Aincrad, Alfiem Online, Gun Gale Online, and the Underworld, and their skills, stats, traits, aspects, and powers and abilities), and having a harem of cute girls(although unlike later Isekai harem franchises, the one in SAO is more of a supportive harem meaning they decided to let go of their feelings for him though they remain close friends with him, and instead they choose to support his relationship with Asuna who’s his only real girlfriend, and they aren’t competing with Asuna over him either, with the exception of Alice)!
My favourite isekai is some random unknown one called “Mushoku Tensei” I can definitely see the resemblance between my fav one and the one you spoke about. Thanks!
The real grandfather of Isekai is A Yankee in King Arthurs Court by Mark Twain. Its a great read of an industrial engineer of the them modern age went back to medieval times England, in King arthurs court. Highly recommend
No other isekai novels got me so invested in the characters that until now I remember each of the characters Rudy met. There are sad farewells but there's also alot of happy reunions. The world is so fleshed out that I can probably tell the culture of each region. And I've read this like 6 years ago
Jobless may have not been the first but the one that popularized most of the tropes that defined 90% of Isekais from the last decade both in WB and LN. It's THE OG of Isekais. Edit: More preciselly one of the OG.
And you're just gonna forget/ignore Isekai Cheat Magician? A isekai that came out before Mushoku Tensei AND it contains more tropes that we see in isekai from the last decade.
@@ThatOneGuy-ik9vs Cheat Magician began in April while Mushoku Tensei began in November. So quite a gap. Which is why it's so hilarious to see how people say Mushoku Tensei formed modern isekai, when they take more after something like Cheat Magician that came out before it.

Atleast with English it's pretty commonly used or atleast studied all over.
To be fair, English is the second most widely spoken language only because China has so many people. huh... guess there aren't people who read one volume and then wait for the anime to catch up...
@pycl Have you even read Bookworm?

I really don't get the whole "grandfather of Isekai" thing... At least according to Wikipedia, Mushoku Tensei's WN started in November 2012. Which is later than at least 3 of the series shown on 1:10. (Re: Zero, Shield Hero, and Isekai Cheat Magician)
And Konosuba is from December 2012. Konosuba, which is supposedly making fun of the tropes started by Mushoku Tensei, started a month after it. (A bit too soon if Mushoku Tensei was really the series starting those tropes, don't you think?)
Rather than the start of a trend, it feels much more like Mushoku Tensei is just going along with the current trend.

@@ashkirby8896 Most modern fantasy isekai borrow much more heavily from stuff like mushoku tensei tho.

I just started watching that anime this morning, and my favorite anime reviewer starts talking about it!
The ln is pretty good
@@Ikhwan-3560 im sure he has heard that
I can't stop laughing over the edgy anime dude surrounded by sexy anime girls in 0:43 bc that dude is a love interest from a yaoi visual novel lmao
He looks like it
May I know the visual novel name ma'am?
@@chookoya he's from togainu no chi created by the same dev as dmmd so expect some hardcore sex scenes lmaoo
My favourite isekai is some random unknown one called “Mushoku Tensei” I can definitely see the resemblance between my fav one and the one you spoke about. Thanks!
We all know that only real OG's remember "John Carter"
Hahaha👍😂
*Ahahaha. Alice in Wonderland wants to say hello.* 😂
Narnia: *i beg your pardon?*
You talking mad shit for someone in Rango distance.
Oh god... is it the one where he goes he goes to mars? ...sort of?
When you stop the video at the 2-minute mark because you've already been convinced to watch it and you don't want any spoilers.
Moshou Tensei:
What if Gintoki gets reincarnated as shinchan
gintoki, but without his cool part
@@rifandyadnan9501 nah our smol gintoki is still cool and cUlTuReD af
This is anime about Gintoki if he was Yoshikage Kira’s son.
@@yuudesu They even have the same VA.
The real grandfather of Isekai is A Yankee in King Arthurs Court by Mark Twain. Its a great read of an industrial engineer of the them modern age went back to medieval times England, in King arthurs court. Highly recommend
7:50 the damn pokemon music, gen 4 snow city my nostalgia.
Eterna forest/Snowpoint Temple but yep
7:26 Scamboli face reveal?!
Lil' Scamerboli
No other isekai novels got me so invested in the characters that until now I remember each of the characters Rudy met. There are sad farewells but there's also alot of happy reunions. The world is so fleshed out that I can probably tell the culture of each region. And I've read this like 6 years ago
7:16
Dang it! I read the manga because I assumed the anime wouldn’t do it justice, like happens so often, but it’s the other way around!? 😭😭😭
Isekai is like digging through a dumpster, mostly trash but hidden gold mines are just resting
More like mostly trash and occasionally a single gold nugget
@@user-ry6cb2vr2p There are pretty good isekai animes, like Re: Zero so not all is bad
i want to find a gold mine in a dumpster too
@Pekoko big kusa no, it's good
@Pekoko big kusa "casual watcher standard" this is the most bs thing i read this month.
Jobless may have not been the first but the one that popularized most of the tropes that defined 90% of Isekais from the last decade both in WB and LN. It's THE OG of Isekais.
Edit: More preciselly one of the OG.
It's not the the OG isekai, it's one of the OGs
This anime was never a OG isekai, it just got over hype due to the fact that the genre at that time was becoming really boring.
And you're just gonna forget/ignore Isekai Cheat Magician? A isekai that came out before Mushoku Tensei AND it contains more tropes that we see in isekai from the last decade.
@@Whitedudeabove Both webnovels began in 2012
@@ThatOneGuy-ik9vs Cheat Magician began in April while Mushoku Tensei began in November. So quite a gap. Which is why it's so hilarious to see how people say Mushoku Tensei formed modern isekai, when they take more after something like Cheat Magician that came out before it.
"he's a minecraft youtuber, he's a groomer" 😭😭
weird how it's inspired so many and yet it still manages to be trope subverting in many ways also it being good unlike too much of isekai these days
It is the original
@@eesafredericks2122 yea but ig the others didnt take after the good example
9:42 jesus that transition was sooooo smooth
That intro was legendary 😂
Love how at 7:34 he says no one is perfect as he shows his dad.......if you know you know
Big oof
