It happens, but ALWAYS remember that if you ever dial 911 by mistake, you DON’T EVER EVER hang up. You just stay on the line and when they answer, you just say it was a mistake. If you hang up, they will have to call you back, and if they don’t hear anything they will have to send an officer to make sure you’re okay. I speak from experience.
Ok in my area i accidentally called 911 but I turned it off and right after I got a bit call and it said “This is a automatic call back from **** Press 3 if it is an emergency press 5 if accidental call may have happened.” Ofc I press 5

This happened to me just the other night, my phone screen became unresponsive. So when I went to do the shut down method, it triggered the SOS alarm. I could not cancel it because my screen wasn’t responding, it ended up dialing 911. I had to explain to the operator what happened and I was incredibly embarrassed, also felt bad I had wasted their time. I didn’t touch my phone for awhile, not wanting to do the same thing again. But I eventually fixed it thankfully lol, this time without triggering the SOS.
It’s not your fault it’s apple’s fault for not thinking this through. This happened to me today it gave me a heart attack. It’s wasting police resources. Apple should pay a heavy fine or fix this.

The lady asked what’s the emergency and I said I’m sorry I didn’t mean to call… where she asked me to verify by address and name. Luckily they didn’t came and that she understood.

I would disable this feature on my phone but it make it where I can't use my fingerprint scanner on any other app on my phone. So annoying. I have a Nokia, and I can't find a way to turn it off without disabling lock screen, which also makes it so I can't unlock any other app with fingerprint scanner, makes no sense.

This just happened to me. Phone screen blacked out and tried to restart it blindly and it called 911, got confused when i heard a voice and hungup, got called back but couldnt see who it was or answer because my phone still wasn't working. I then got another call and franticly was looking for the answer button the screen and talked to a police officer on the phone who then asked me to go to the door and confirm that I wasn't in danger. He told me it happens all the time which i guess kinda made me a feel a little better.
Why in the actual heck, do these phones have a feature, that moster especially is implemented in a way that people can accidentally activate, & aren't aware of?! That is very irresponsible as heck!
This is why I don’t use that feature the only ones who need the Emergency SOS feature are elderly women like my grandparents who fall a lot or people with life threatening diseases and disabilities or Chronic illnesses but me yeah I’ll keep it off until I need it so I don’t accidentally trigger anything yes I know this comment is going to get backlash and hate. I did this acter a police officer came to our door saying they received an emergency call but none of us not even my twin’s friend who was there at the time called them I felt so bad someone wasted their time from a real emergency and we still don’t know who caused it my parents think it was one of our neighbors accidentally called near our house it’s freaky when a police officer shows up at your door and no one called them. So they talk to my school police officer about it over the radio saying they where gonna send an officer to drive by the school to make sure everything’s ok . They did their drive by then went back to the station . And then they where tracking me for 3 hours so I had to go on to my emergency SOS and then I turned it off and then everything was back to normal

Fun fact: If you dial 911 without a cell phones plan or no wifi your phone will connect to the nearest cell tower no Mater what to fulfil the call no mater the provider free of charge! If a cell tower isn’t available the call will not go through.

I've done it before. Luckily I was able to cancel it at the last second before it actually called 911. Wish we could go back to the Razr.
