Bravo you discovered the real message between the author and the reader delivered to you in secret. To me tbh it means more like, the government's ideals go against the ideals of freedom and adventure; Which Oda believes to be the source of happiness. obviously all kinds of artistic media bear a message and some can be buyest propaganda but some are just str8 up a meta conversations between the reader and the author because we are not perfect but some ideals are deemed empirical for us people so much so we go so far to pass it on... Oda truthfully inspires thru his work and he shows you that no matter what always smile in the face of death and try to keep strong

Maybe they smile because when they see their life go before their eyes they just are overjoyed with how much fun they had with their firends.
Sergio Apolo Barrera Suarez I think it was more in a sense of Luffy smiled because even at that point in the story he had a fun adventure his goal is to be King of the Pirates but his ultimate goal is to have a fun adventure so maybe he smiled because he already had fun.

Here's a topic that's bothered me for a while now: ever since the incidents on Enies Lobby and the Sabaody Archipelago, how does the Government still believe Chopper is just a pet and only worth 50/100 Berries? Didn't Kumadori, Kalifa, Kaku and Jyabura get to report on that? And didn't Chopper transform right in front of Sentoumaru? Did he just forget it or is there more to it? Does the government have plans for Chopper just like they did for Robin?
Please, Tekking, we really need a discussion/theory on that.

@@PlusquamPerfekt256 Still, I'd think Sentoumaru would find it important to tell ANYONE that the man who opposed the world government directly, took down multiple Shichibukai and attacked a Tenryuubito also has a giant monster under his command (that for all he knows could've been a factor of the Enies Lobby attack.).
And the joke-thing has run its course long ago by now. The 100 Berry follow-up wasn't even funny, just an letdown. Not to mention it makes the government look incredibly ignorant and incompetent if they can track down Nico Robin but cannot manage to put two and two together for another oddly unique member of the Strawhat Crew.

@@PlusquamPerfekt256 He is FAR from good. Like you said, the last time he contributed to the story was in Enies Lobby. His role has been reduced to cutesy-bait and merchandise, occasionally acting serious, but still always forced to make way for the likes of Luffy or Zoro. Like all Strawhats, he _needs_ and _deserves_ to be seen in a more serious, and appropriate light.
Judging by his actions after the timeskip, Sentoumaru obviously cares about how the Strawhats are represented officially, and should especially care about things like bounties, now that he's a marine.
It's not that I don't like the joke, it's the fact that's been like this for years now. And that when Oda had the opportunity to put a new spin on it, he shoved it aside to keep milking it. (Can you imagine if they _still_ held on to Sanji's first joke poster, even after Whole Cake Island?)
So unless there was some special reason for the low bounty (like Vegapunk wanting to capture and study Chopper to create humanoid weapons or something), this will always keep me from taking the Would Government completely serious.

Smite Grinder Garp isn’t an admiral. He’s a vice admiral. He didn’t want to become one BECAUSE of the celestrial dragons and having to obey them.
Yes, it can mean that, but it might not be necessary to be an enemy of god or gods... I feel like they are like for example when a Hollywood star (or something symilar) has a child, most of the time they will try to put them in the same path that they have, and most of the time it works, but there are always exceptions and not everyone follows what they have to do or were supposed to do or be... Just like blackbeard, he's a D, a different D probably but nonetheless a D. Yet his main objective is not the gods but rather the entire world, yeah the gods are in the world and at some point will have to go for them, but that's just unavoidable.

I just rewatched the scene where young Robin and Saul start getting to know each other. Robin comments on how strange his laugh is and then he starts telling her that if you laugh it will make you happy. In many ways he could've been explaining the whole idea of the "Will of D", or at least what it is to him.

yo Tekking, what about this: the D stands for Double and all the people with the D in their name are all some kind of clones... Hear me out, Luffy is often refered to as superhuman because of how he heals by eating meat for example. Or Blackbeards Body is said to be more durable than a normal body. But the biggest clue is Germa 66 ! Remember the clone soldiers ? Maybe the Ancient Kingdom had a more developed system of cloning or smth ??
I couldnt write the whole theory here, just some stuff to think about ^^ i did come up with that by myself btw but there is probably already a similar theory out there.

I use to think the D stood for Destiny or Destruction..now I'm thinking like a pirate and think it could be Davy as in Davy Jones.
We have seen characters before that are not from D clan die by accepting their fate with a smile such as Hiluluk and bellmere, Oden's death is another example. So i don't think that someone has to be from the D clan to have this trait, i think being a Dreamer and knowing that your will has already being inherited by others is what makes people have this trait whether you are a D or not. And in hiluluk words "people are only dead when they are forgotten".
Somehow just connected that the D. In their names means that ace and Luffy and all of them are actually related to each other.

I stated this theory before.
Ancient original Devil Fruits.
The original DF also had the side efffect of always having to smile/laugh.
The Celestial Dragons tested their original DF on slaves to get the functioning ones.
The descendents of those always laughing/smiling slaves took that smile as an initial.
Thats why all members of the will of D are the natural enemies of the Celestial Dragons and close to death the side effects from 800years ago come thru.
So here is my theory on the will of D.
I think every D. besides Luffy is there to impact/help Luffy. Think about it. Roger is Luffys "motivation" or Saul helped Robin/impacted Robin and now she is helping Luffy with reaching Laughtale. I am not sure about Blackbeard but maybe he is gonna help/impact him somehow in the future (he already impacted him with capturing ace... But idk :D).
So maybe the ones who have the D. in their name are destined to help/impact luffy.

I strongly believe Dragon knows what it means. Which is why he stated "The world is waiting for our answer".
Well, the thing about Garp is that even though he was offered the promotion to admiral many times, he refused precisely because the admirals are answerable to the world nobles. Even as a marine, he still harbors the same hatred for the world nobles as any other with the will of D.

Saul's task was way more than inspiring Robin. He ensured that Ohara spirit would survive by letting Robin live and that leave at least one person to read the poneglyphs.

What if it turns out that those with the D in their name are direct descendants of the clan of D, but the will itself is something anyone can have.
I like this concept, it makes more sense that anyone who fights like those of the D Clan can inherit the will. It can never be snuffed out by the World Government in such a way.
Edwar D. Newgate ? All those with the Will of D. who've died (on screen) have helped Luffy on his journey. Gol initiated his dream, Rouge gave birth to Ace, Ace protected Luffy, Jaguar pushed Robin (the key to Luffy's success). Luffy is clearly the one that "he is waiting for" as Whitebeard put it.
You know, Corazon also died with a smile. He wanted Law to live, not just survive.
My thoughts on the Ds smile is because they died in a poetic way worthy of a smile or laugh
Ace's backstory labelled him as an unloved son of the devil, but he died when knowing he was loved by his crew and his brother.
Roger died knowing (possible theory) that the government took away freedom in the seas, but sparked the pirate era for many to chase freedom and dreams.

I like the idea that all the D's in the story have had a direct link too the return of Joyboy (luffy) even Blackbeard because he captured ace and because ace died luffy didn't enter the new world and stayed back 2 years to get stronger

Garp is almost certainly gonna die from doing something that opposes the WG and they'll send someone to take care of him (someone admiral level, maybe greenbull or just akainu) just like jaguar D. Saul
