Making the Boker Vox Rold Stock Sheath a Viable Option

- The Boker Vox Rold is a great knife...excellent camp knife, great survival knife or even a tactical knife. But its kydex sheath was anything other than acceptable. Most people have a heavy criticism of the sheath...but it's kydex!?!?!?! It should be able to be made to fit. So in this video, I do something about it.
Hi, I formed mine pretty much like you did, with my heat gun, unfortunately I don't have a belt attachment clip spare like you, ! I'm gonna probably just make a webbing belt loop for it. It's a shame boker don't just put a little more attention into the sheath, . I think size for size, this is probably one of the best production knives around, . Thanks for the video, it's prompted me to get my sheath sorted, instead of putting it off. ! All the best, John .
Yes, you nailed it...I'm surprised Vox even puts his name on this with the sheath being as sub-par as it is right out of the box. I'm telling you...it's almost perfect now that I put some effort into it. The retention is great. How did Boker get this so wrong??? The webbing belt will work just fine, good luck and glad I inspired you to get it going!! Thanks for watching!
Cool Press !
I think the retention is perfect now. Way more quiet and stealthy. The only rattle would be if your falling down a hill !
👍🏻
Haha!! I will try to avoid the falling down the hill part! But heck ya, this is sooo much better. I have spent a bunch of time getting setup to deal with aspects of owning gear...kydex is one of those things. If I'm gonna be in business to handle blades with kydex, I need to be in business to fix it. Maybe the press will be a good video topic??
Böker should pay you for making this set very much awesome again! Thanks for the video
Haha, I would LOVE for Boker to pay me!! Thanks for watching!
Great job! Can I suggest you pick up an old toaster oven from a thrift store... It will heat things up much quicker and evenly. Plus, you could heat up your lunch while working in the basement lol. Great for treating your leather items with Snow Seal also!
I have seen people using the toaster oven...I think it would certainly come in useful. As of now I only have the old hot plate and my heat gun, but if I did more kydex work, I'd consider getting the toaster oven. I'm still in the middle of getting setup at my house between my office/studio and workshop...maybe once I'm further along I can get the kydex going a little more...it's pretty fun to work with. Thanks for the advice!
good job making the sheath better! that's a sweet knife
Thanks buddy...it definitely came out better than it was. Sometimes when I get into things I wonder if I'll make it better or worse. This time I got it right...
Great job!
Thanks! I was contemplating a custom kydex, but I couldn't really justify another $100 or so...but I really like this blade and wanted it to work. Got my wish...just took some effort...sweat equity!?!
outer limitless Yes, I'm looking seriously at this knife, but the sheath is a concern. Is it easy to sharpen? I've read a few complaints about not as easy to sharpen as 1095.
Well, here's the thing. I'll be honest, I don't generally "sharpen" my blades. I use knives constantly...literally dozens of times a day, and I practice patience and techniques not to damage my edges. I try to avoid anything that chips or rolls the edge...
Now, granted, that could be considered under-utilizing my blades, but it's how I personally choose to use my knives and blades.
With that said, I basically only have to strop my edges, or at worst case use a ceramic rod. I am able to maintain perfectly sharp, hair shaving edges on almost all my knives...and even though I use them every day they're still razor sharp. So for that, I don't every have a problem with D2. In fact, it's the opposite...I can get my D2 ridiculously sharp and I LOVE that steel. I have an endless amount of 1095 and it is a wonderful steel to own.
If you can only own one blade, and only one blade, this one will serve you well, but you'll hate the sheath the first day you get it, unless you can tighten it up.
My personal opinion is if you want carbon steel, get an ESEE 6. If it's your first "survival" or wilderness blade and you want a choil, the ESEE 6 will give you all the confidence and a solid system. IF you don't need carbon, I am really in LOVE, like, might not carry another knife for a long time in love, with the Benchmade Arvensis...it's 154CM, but I can get that so friggin scary sharp, and the sheath is amazing.
you really deserve more subs
Thanks!! I appreciate that! I try very hard to be thorough and do quality work and videos that have interest beyond just reviews. I love the mods and making things personalized...it's part of the fun playing with the blades!
Wait I think we might be able to find some bigger clamps !
Oh, I have bigger...
Good job son...
