    This was so helpful!! The idea of an agent doesn’t feel so scary anymore and actually sounds like a good idea for me with 5 kids at home.

    - Art agents help you book and sign jobs
    - Help with contracts, pricing
    - They have a network
    - Sometimes they are like a PM, where they help with negotiation
    - Art agents take 30 - 50% of your income (!!!)
    - They are looking for your potential of your work
    Licensing agents
    - Licenses can get complex, might be royalties and recurring fees
    - Having social media isn't going to make or break your success with art agents (surprising).

    I am scared to go to an Agent but what are your guidelines ?

      Definitely trust your gut. It's not for everyone, and it certainly isn't a one-way ticket to a successful art career. If you have too many projects to manage in the licensing space, it might be a good idea to look into it to figure out if you think it's right for you personally.

    What does a contract need to cover? Where can we find a copy of what should be covered?

    • @Goodtype
      @Goodtype  Рік тому +1

      great question! We worked with a copyright attorney to create four contract templates you can use for your next project and an accompanying video that breaks them down! goodtype.us/contract-kit

    Art agents get 50% of your income. Galleries get 50% of your income as well. The government gets 50%++ (here where Iive) of you’re income. Happy success hashahaha

      it is rough out there!

    • @jamesspiroff9117
      @jamesspiroff9117 Місяць тому

      @@Goodtype That is rough. Let's say a $100 retail item you sell to a gallery for $50. They gross $50 profit. You gross $50 as the artist. $25 off the top to agent. (I assume they are not getting profit off the retail but the wholesale price). That leaves you the artist $25. Let's assume 50% for overhead like materials, lights, rent etc. that are business deductible. That leaves $12.50 net profit. Now pay Uncle Sam his 25% for income tax and 15% self-employment tax and you are left with a whopping $7.50. That makes it pretty rough indeed.

    • @Goodtype
      @Goodtype  Місяць тому

      @@jamesspiroff9117 you definitely have to work backward so you aren't left with $7.50. You have to price your work considering all of those expenses so you aren't left with pennies.

    Cant listen to someone who croakes the last word of every sentence. Its an extremely annoying affectation - mainly used by American women. Bit sad as well.

    If they had progressive values they would need for you to be handicapped or trans or even black.
    I'm curious to know how they described their values to you.
