Ranging across the vast territory of West Papua, 34,000 guerilla soldiers fight the 700,000 strong Indonesian military controlling their sovereign land. In February, these rebels took a New Zealand pilot hostage, threatening to kill him if the Indonesian government ignored their demands for independence. But in this exclusive interview, Jeffrey Bomanak, Chairman of the Free Papua Movement, promises Philip Mehrtens will make it home alive.
After negotiating their freedom with their Dutch colonists, West Papuans discovered the United States had used their land to bribe Indonesia into joining the capitalist economic order in 1963. The Free West Papua Movement (OPM, Organisasi Papua Merdeka) sprung up in resistance and has been fighting ever since. Jeffrey explains how their land was used as a pawn in a battle between world orders, the “genocide” of Papuans at the hands of the Indonesian government, and why organisations like the UN ignore the desperate plea of the Papuan people to maintain their colonial oversight.

Indonesian government is not only cruel to West Papuans, but also to many other West Indonesians as well.
I finally realized that West Papuans' fight for freedom from this colonial govt called NKRI is essentially based on perfectly reasonable basis. I heard that Benny Wenda is currently in Britain, and it's highly probable that he's currently learning more about the governmental system of Britain so he can make logical decisions to make sure that West Papuans are free from this scam NKRI govt.

TAPOL and others were covering West Papua long before the 90s. Earth First! coverage an important addition. The OPM-TPNPB war of liberation, and Indonesia's relentless atrocities and the injustice of international abandonment of this cause célèbre needs media attention as much as possible. Since the 90s, the indigenous Melanesian population is now a minority in their own land. Hundreds of thousands dead, bombing of central highland villages - nothing is right about any government's support for Indonesia. When you push a perspective of “bias”, first try to have a grasp of the history of the illegal invasion and unlawful annexation of West New Guinea (West Papua) followed by six decades of genocide, ethnocide, infanticide, and ecocide … all the result of predatory capitalism and the ethical and moral corruption of exploiters, apologists, collaborators, and international governance.
