I still love you, meinl. At the end of the day it matters on the quality and the sound. I am building my hand made set (as a woodworker, not a great drummer) on your designs. If you inceased your wood quality and made a few geometric adjustments, you'd destroy LP for almost no cost.

Eric... mi hermano! I love your videos. They are so informative. As someone who has been playing since 1969, I'm always learning new patterns and styles. I played and recorded with the Isley Brothers for 13 years and then with Whitney Houston for 4 years all between the late 70's and the early 90s. Anyway, I wanted to say thank you for discussing Moperc versus Meinl. Both are good companies. I love the way Moperc sounds. I used to endorse both Meinl and LP at one time. I'm not sure how Meinl congas sound at this time because I have not been able to play any of their new products. I used to own the float tune series. This vid is very informative for me..... I'm subscribed to your channel and I will keep checking you out. Again Gracias y Un Abrazo!

Something similar to your story has been happening to me. I started out as a self-taught (rock, and later jazz) drummer, and I used to feel like I was good at it. I kinda was, but I didn't have the motivation to learn proper finger technique and rudiments. I really enjoyed learning rhythms and playing along to songs, but didn't feel like going through the process of learning better technique in order to advance. When I started discovering more about latin music and realizing that I have always loved it, I actually also considered moving to timbales, but for some time I did not act upon that decision, and rather bought myself a bongó. I liked it, and because I played bongó and knew the rhythms for timbales, I got a chance to play in my school's band with those two instruments. Being already there is when I tried congas and had a similar experience, it hurt me and I didn't quite like it, and decided to keep playing bongó and planning on getting some timbales. But at some point I started learning more about congas, through your videos and by watching performances (Giovanni Hidalgo, Pedrito Martínez, Daniel Díaz, Ray Barreto, and so on), then accepted that I just don't enjoy playing with drumsticks, and also started playing congas more at my school's band. So now I'm really passionate about them, and want to get some to start playing at home and gigs too. Most likely, some MEINL, like the Luis Conte's.

13:00: I worked with Meinl back in the late 1980s marketing some of their products. They were a good company then. They were making cymbals, but having trouble gaining traction because the cymbals were not that good. They had their cymbal division leader come out and work with us, and with some of the great drummers. And they figured it out, and within a couple years began producing some exceptional cymbals. As far as I can tell, the company has only improved since that time. So many of their percussion products are competitive among the best in the world.

Talking about Meinl bongos I never liked its free ride suspension system. The welding broke in one I Had a long time ago and there was the need to replace it with a wood block. I sold it as soon as they repaired it. Now I prefer bongos made by craftmen, which in Spanish we call Luthiers, made out of a single piece of wood. They have no comparison. Greetings from Colombia.

I appreciate your teaching and videos. The music experience you have is limited to a church setting and not professional or a band gig?
I disagree with the Meinl decision but if they helped your vision/financial progress that's cool. LP is way overrated to me. I have used Fibercrafts for many years and would not change for LP. You have mentioned A. Peraza in the past but his style, technique could be examined in depth.

Maybe Eric will play along to the same song and use his different Congas to demonstrate the sound difference. I got my quote from Moperc.. Including shipping it's a worthwhile investment for the 5 Conga set I asked about.. When you've played for years the authentic sound that you hear from time to time is always lingering in the mind. LP is good, and I've jammed on different types of Congas But.. That special sound, craftmenship, look, and everything you can clearly see is there in Mopercs.. I can see and hear from the videos.. So yes, I will put the money together and enjoy my Mopercs when they arrive.. You get what you pay for, and you can't beat quality hand build anything really..

Saludos.

If you have the need to switch the skins on any conga drums . Instead of using the skin that comes with. That what exactly are you paying for? The wood ? How big the drum is ? Weight ? Color ? What exactly are the difference? Specially when the price on this moperc are overpriced . I’m just trying to learn and understand what are the difference. I always thought is in the skin and the experience on the congero that makes this or any conga drum worth buying and listening. I’m sure moperc are very heavy drums to carry. Hopefully soon you can do a segment on the sound of each brand you have and show us the difference between LP VS meinl VS moperc. So those like myself that are only beginners can learn and understand the difference. Thank you Eric . God bless you brother 🙏

Okay Mano, I do believe you brighten production quality with a lighter background and the pixels.
Opening in living room has a very cool lighting quality. You might want to diffuse your light in the conga room to remove harshness, it's easier on the viewer. Tracing paper works just like a diffuser gel.
