- Austrian Airlines offers, as a part of the Lufthansa Group, a few long-haul flights from their main hub Vienna, mostly to the USA, Canada and a few cities in Asia.
But is it the most underrated airline in the entire Lufthansa Group?
I had the chance to try their Business Class on a 9,5-hours flight from Vienna to Chicago on board a Boeing 777-200(ER).
After my first flight from Copenhagen, I had enough time to visit Austrian's Senator Lounge, before it was time to board our plane.
Austrian Airlines' long-haul fleet has already reached its age, and they have to renew their fleet in the future. Soon, in the second half of 2024, they want to introduce their first Dreamliner, and I hope to try it soon 😁
But first, let me show you in this new Flightreport, what Austrian Airlines has to offer in their Business Class ✈️

It's good to see you on business class Marc ✈️😊.. I'm glad that you got your own seat too 👌.. When you were at the Senator's Lounge, it did look rather small. Maybe they will soon refurbish & add some decor, art. Btw, it is good to know that the crews were attentive & friendly. I can see them coming out regularly with beverages. And having an on board chef is also a plus. What made this flight special was that the crew served the meal course by course instead of on one tray. TQ for another exciting vid. Hopefully they will refurbish their lounge, as a Star Alliance Gold lounge, it’s simply too small. You’re totally right about the meal, I think in Business Class you have to get every course separate, and it was so delicious 👍

Although it is a 25 year old plane, the seats in Austrian business class are better than Lufthansa's 10 year old business class.
Haha yeah you‘re totally right, Lufthansa’s old 2-2-2 configuration is terrible. I like a private seat much more, but also excited what they offer in their new Allegris Business Class 😁 I will try to fly it this year ✈️
Great video Marc! Watched many trip reports and can’t remember anyone complaining about Austrian’s food, even in economy class. They really seem to have high standards! 😋 Definitely an airline I’d like to fly with one day. Also, will be interesting to see what kind of interior they introduce on the 787!

YUP, I enjoyed it. When you speak into your microphone, are you speaking at full volume? What was in the small glass just before your second service? Have you ever been tempted to purchase from the in-flight magazine? I am happy you are having fun.
That makes me happy 😊 I speak to the microphone with the same volume as in a normal conversation and that’s the reason why I hold it to my mouth. If it’s not so close the noises are so loud that I have to speak much louder and I don’t want to disturb other people 😁 Yeah sometimes I want to buy something, but only airline merchandise 😂 I have an Air Asia cable organizer or an Eurowings powerbank and stuff like that 👍

Oh yeah it was awesome 😊 You should try it, Vienna is an easy airport for connecting flights, the crews are friendly and their catering is amazing 👍 I‘m really excited if they will introduce a new cabin with the Dreamliner ✈️

I will see what the future brings. My next flight will be with KLM in their business class to Las Vegas.
Nice :) Hopefully I can try some SkyTeam airlines as KLM soon 😁 Currently I fly more Oneworld or Star Alliance airlines to extend my status with them 😁

Thank you. I have switched from British Airways to KLM since it is so much more convenient flying out if Schiphol. I can reach it by train within two hours and fly nonstop to Vegas . I no longer travel a lot due to poor health. But if I am able to go away, I want it to be as convenient as possible. So, if there is no nonstop service out of Düsseldorf, Amsterdam is a great alternative.

Austrian is like 20 years behind. Only airline that didn't make money on flights from Shanghai
Hopefully it changes soon, they are a great airline and they receive the new Dreamliner just because they make money now… Mostly if you think about long-haul flights in the LH-Group you just recognize LH or Swiss flights.. Austrian is really underrated 😱
it's a solid soft product. The seat is meh. Service is great.

Yeah they are old but even old planes can offer a nice experience and I’m really excited when they receive their new planes 👍✈️
Their meals in economy are good but tiny. Bring your own food. Snack: half a sandwich on a 10 hour flight. Some crew very nice but some aggressive. At least on our flight. Not sure if one ca n still preorder deluxe meals in economy. I did on one direction.
Oh okay, I had more luck on my flights with them. I‘ve tried Austrian in Economy, Premium Eco and Business, on all of my flights they were super friendly 👍 Yeah you’re totally right, in economy you should eat before your flight or take something with you 😁
