yeah dark fate, that classic that had an original T1 ("sarah conner?"BLAM!, "the uzi 9mm") finish his mission, feel bad, decide to settle down and start a career, meet a woman and raise a step kid. classic writing.
Say what you will about Terminator Salvation it’s highly underrated it has great action and a pretty decent cast and the practical affects was a nice touch.
This movie is so underrated. It's heaps better than the terrible genisys and dark fate. At least it tried to do something fresh and not just be a rehash of the first two films.
I actually like this movie and I have seen the A-10 warthog in action. Hear that 30 mm cannon it sounds like a buzzsaw. We would say the bull moose is on the loose.
It was a missed opportunity. Instead of a war picture, we get a mix of standard chase with Marcus plot and only a few action sequences of the actually war. There was more of the John Connor character talking, then him actually fighting. There is a bit of time travel in the sense that Marcus dies in present time to only awaken in the future, being I guess, a bridge for the audience to help understand the world in which he finds himself in. There was too many plot issues and it also screwed up the canon; 1) the whole Marcus plot really took the focus of John Connor, 2) Marcus's character would represent the final step in the evolution of the terminator being a mix of human/machine, 3) they made it that everyone knew that John was the savior when no one actually should know that in the future, (the generals should already be dead, John was the get humans to rise up), and 4) John is actually the terminator now, skynet has to now deal with the anomaly of john connor who is winning a war it thought it already won and how John is nonstop in his determination to win. If it was going to be a trilogy, it should have been John organizing the resistance with him finally accepting the mantle of savior, then him having become machine like to win the war by sacrificing people to destroy skynet with ruthless determination, and the final one being a Marcus like character who seems to be more human than John but is a machine hybrid who reminds John of what he has given up to win, helping John to let go of war once he is has won. There would be a subplot of John having to keep Reece alive, but still train him to fight terminators. John would have to remain aloof from a dad that he wants a relationship with, but can't let anyone know what Reece means to him.
I honestly think it's a shame this never got the sequels it deserved. It's just a shame they never came because of a single producer being in legal trouble.
And this is why the true time line of terminator will always be 1 2 3 and salvation. Nothing to say on 1 and 2. Both are perfect on what they achieve in the story. 3 is a story of HOW he survived judgment day. And now salvation. Shows conner becoming the leader he needs to become and was told he’ll become in the last 3 films
Salvation had great potential. Everything you talked about hints at its potential. But what they actually did was really messy. I’ve only seen it once back in 2009 though and your review makes me consider giving it another shot.
@@johnsmith-wx5fb All I see is your insecure bitching that people are stealing your brilliant comment, but I don't see your comment anywhere. Get a life.
This movie is the third best in the series and I don’t mean that to be an insult. I loved this movie. I will never understand the hate that it gets. It is 1000% superior to #3 and anything else that came after it.
I didn’t love it, but at the very least I was happy that it didn’t do the same thing over and over again. It’s usually protector and Terminator come from future, Terminator to kill protagonist, and protector to protect protagonist. And that’s pretty much the whole film. This one didn’t do that. Thank god.
Great video. I too never got the hate for Salvation, i would have preferred it to have more blue filter and plasma rifles in the future war but it was easily the best among the sequels after T2, and the only one with new ideas that actually work (counting only movies, not Sarah Connor chronicles). Not to mention stellar cast (especially with how atrociously miscast Genisys was) - Anton Yelchin absolutely nailed it with his Kyle Reese.
I don't mind the film, it has some problems here and there but they are so many positives. I just wish it had the same future look in Cameron's films. Anton Yelchin had more personality than Jai Courtney, some interesting terminator designs etc. This is the right direction if you want to make more of these films. Even add the horror elements from the first movie where even one terminator is a big risk and can cause so much damage. Remember Arnold destroying the entire police station? Well here he is in Sega Geneshit smiling with the song Bad Boys....And don't get me started with the last one where the first 5 minutes gave us an Alien 3 opening....
Glad to see a lot of people like this movie. Quite entertaining, nice sfx and the setting in the future should've been explored more in the following movies. In fact, I'll unashamedly watch it anytime I come across it on cable.
The pros of Salvation for me were the grim and dark portrayal of the post-Judgement Day apocalyptic future. I also loved the different machine designs which had them in the water, the ground, and the skies which created a sense of dread that nowhere in this future is safe. Although I was disappointed there were no laser bullets here, I appreciated the realism of this future. However, the biggest con for me was the story. In particular the character of Marcus. John Connor should've been the primary character here where he would be on a desperate journey to find Kyle Reese before the machines get to him, but instead, they made him a secondary character and made Marcus the protagonist. As JoBlo said, they had a lot of creative opportunities here, but they decided to create a forgettable character like Marcus that served no real purpose at all.
Salvation is great, I've always thought so, the only thing I didn't like was the final fight scenes. Also some of the best miniature work you'll ever see.
After T1 and T2 then there's Terminator Salvation for me, finally shows what's coming and the humans facing skynet. Presenting new terminators such as motorcycles, the giant people snatcher, Marcus himself, and anything that fits a specific role. Visually it looked great with practical effects but needed to focus more on John becoming the true leader of the Resistance. Far superior than 3, Genisys and Dark GARBAGE.
Hell yeah. Terminator Salvation is the real Terminator III and it works as a good prequel to the first. Yeah, I said it. It focused on the Future War and was actually entertaining. Fuck Rise Of The Machines, Genisys, and Dark Fate.
Apparently, it only performed terrible in America (for god knows what reason), while being number 1 in box office in 66 out of 70 territories around the world. I really liked this movie though.
Thank you! I love this movie, and have always felt that it worked as a sequel to the previous trilogy. And also, it’s strong enough to to hold up on its own. This film connects everything together in such a subtly effective way.!

did you say Dark Fate (aka I need your clothes, your boots and your mestrualcycle) that spat on all the iconic characters (dead Connor, Grandpa Arnie) was excellent ? Stopped watching.
i recently heard that in the pre-executive-meddling-script the character of John Connor was to die at the end, and have his face transplanted onto the robotic Marcus Wright who would then go on to impersonate John and lead the human resistance to victory in the following films. this, for me at least, would have revitalised the franchise by exploring the blurry line between machine intelligence and organic intelligence. can machines become human? can humans become machines?
That's true, but you are missing one important detail: after taking on the appearance of John Connor, Marcus is deleted and Skynet takes over the body, showing that Skynet was using him as a trojan horse the whole time, and can now use the Connor persona to finish off the resistance. I hate the ending that they went with, but doubt I would have liked the original any better.
I had mild expectations for this film, but when I saw it I was mindblown. I even saw it three times for good measure, including the midnight premiere. To me, this sequel was the best of the others that followed T2. And even following the expanded lore gave a deeper glimpse into that war-torn future.
I always thought it was a great film. Even without comparing it to the rest to claim “well it’s better than Terminator 3,5,6...”. Very unfortunate they didn’t continue on this storyline- Terminator franchise is now dead.
@@jwr2904 the general consensus of folk that like the movie is that at least it's better than Rise, Dark Fate or Genisys and as you say theyre free to do so if they wanna accept third rate rubbish which I feel it is.

Terminator was terminated after Judgment Day in 1991.. the main loophole being that Kyle Reese was sent back in time by John Connor to save his mother first, then John... but turns out that Kyle Reese is to be the father of John Connor, who travels back and impregnates his mother, who he was assigned to save by his own son, before he was born.. so there's that...
Maybe, but, in the true timeline, before the war, before anyone or thing was sent back, who was John's father? Kyle coming back created a ripple effect, that changes the timeline, sending it into a different time, as of 12 May, 1983 (where it was a Thursday, not Saturday. Movie mistake explained. ) The simple fact is, most women do not know they are pregnant until the first missed period, so Sarah could have already been pregnant, and not known it yet, thus making Kyle, even in the new timeline, not the father. She may have lied to John, simply to ensure Kyle was sent back, so she would have him in her life, even did that short time, and to ensure she would have that pivotal change, so she would find out about the machines, and how to fight them, so she could pass that on to her son. Chicken and the egg question. Which came first, can be applied here. But, John existed, before Kyle came back, at least once. Chances are, he still would have, no matter who came back, as a protector. Just a theory, but I already know others are going to jump on me over it.
@@kevinfox500 I think you have too much time on your hands, when confronted with this I don't think James Cameron even explained any of that... and he wrote it

This is the last Terminator film I saw in the theater and remember feeling disappointed at the look of it overall. Felt like a different franchise. I may revisit it for a second look.
I think you got it there buddy. Sneaking around after dark in smashed up sedans with a scavenged heavy laser mounted to the roof made much more sense as a vehicle for that setting than squadrons of A-10's, helicopters, submarines etc. I always thought it might have been a weird studio stipulation to "make it look like COD, so the kids like it"
FINALLY!!!! Someone said it!!! This and the original two are my top three of the franchise. And I’m gonna be honest this might nudge T1 out of the number 2 spot. The other three are all horrible and are nightmare’s to sit through. I love this movie, the performances, and especially the practical effects
Uh, this movie had so much potential, it almost hurts. We need a Terminator TV show set in future (with Judgment Day happened in 1997) something in vein of The Walking Dead, maybe. And yes, It will probably coast a lot (like a LOT of money), but a man can dream, right?
This was easily the last good Terminator film. Because it had its own original story, fantastic special effects and cinematography, good score from Danny Elfman and brilliant performances from Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and the late Anton Yelchin. Unlike Genishit and Dark Fate, it didn't fuck over the fans and audiences.
@Steve Adams I respectfully disagree. Terminator Genishit turned John Connor into a fucking Terminator with a nonsensical story and a seriously miscast Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke as well as lackluster special effects. Dark Fate just pulled an Alien 3 and a Last Jedi on us. But if you like those films it's fine by me.
I wish it had the same future look in Cameron's films but I still don't mind the film. For me, T1, T2, T3 except the cringe comedy & T4. That's it. Sega Geneshit & Darkshit? Never watching those garbage ever again. Just do the future war but make it intense. Stop with the time travel stuff, its messed up already.
Does anyone notice the scene when Kyle Reese and Sams Character first hop into a car and Alice In Chains is playing, Kyle asks Sam "what is that music"? How does Kyle know what music is?
T1: Sci-fi rip off of slasher movies T2: Action version of previous one (just like Aliens) T3: Parody of T2 TS: Action version of first minutes of T2 TG: Parody of all previous ones TDF: Woke version of T2
This film is definitely not a bad movie really enjoyed it oh and genesis wasn't a box office bomb it's actually the second highest grossing terminator after 2 and in my opinion the very best of all the movies simply because it implies that John perhaps never was the saviour of mankind but instead the father of the destroyer of the world and that's why he needed to survive
I totally agree with this. I remember when I first saw it I thought it was really badass and then I read that people hated it. To me this is how I imagine the future of the Terminator universe.
If the movie delivered as well as the trailer ... maybe ... as it is, it got too muddied in its story about Kyle Reese being on a kill list and pre-destination nonsense. It had all the elements, but at the end of the day parts of it looked cheap, the story wasn’t great and the whole thing with Marcus was confusing and dumb.
Its probably the best of the sequels after T3 and arguably better than that movie as well. At least the concept was interesting I'm sure everyone wanted to see a movie about the future war. We just need this concept and an R rating to have a truly great Terminator sequel again!
I always enjoyed Salvation and still do to this day. It’s my third favorite in the series after 1 and 2. Expanded the universe to see the actual war we saw glimpses of in the first two films and I wish they went through with the sequels to this film, but the production company that produced the film went bankrupt and couplet with the reception not being the best at the time, those plans went out the window.
Rewatched it recently, and it's a solid flick for sure and a shame it didn't continue considering what we got later. Question, is there any significant connection to Terminator 3 somehwere in there, because otherwise, you could just consider T1, T2, and Salvation a nice little trilogy.
I really enjoyed Terminator Salvation when it first came out in theaters. After owning it Blu-Ray, I conclude it is one of my favorite sci-fi movie of all time.
Christian Bale definitely passes as an older version of Edward Furlong, so good casting, and its a very underrated Terminator film also, i loved it when i seen it, and still do.!
Review is spot on. Salvation is so underrated, even though it did make its money back, and has a very good plotiline that makes sense and is internally consistent. It is a shame that the admins of the franchise decided to go off on a renewz it path, instead of developing this one a lot more. I thoroughly enjoyed this Terminator installment, and appreciated its differences from the same ol of the previous Terminators. They shoulda kept going with this.

I remember being absolutely pumped when seeing this in cinemas. It's a shame they continued the franchise like they did afterwards.
I remember being pumped to see it (must have been a VERY boring time in my life) then the utter lack of thrill or giving a shit about the dumb crap on the screen-
yeah dark fate, that classic that had an original T1 ("sarah conner?"BLAM!, "the uzi 9mm") finish his mission, feel bad, decide to settle down and start a career, meet a woman and raise a step kid. classic writing.
Say what you will about Terminator Salvation it’s highly underrated it has great action and a pretty decent cast and the practical affects was a nice touch.
Everything in this movie made me either yawn or roll my eyes in embarrassment
This movie is so underrated. It's heaps better than the terrible genisys and dark fate.
At least it tried to do something fresh and not just be a rehash of the first two films.
I liked it a lot. There’s literally almost nothing not to like.
I rather enjoyed Salvation myself.
I actually like this movie and I have seen the A-10 warthog in action. Hear that 30 mm cannon it sounds like a buzzsaw. We would say the bull moose is on the loose.
shit rhymes and guns. *claps in socially acceptable condensation.*
In my eyes there are 3 terminator movies: T1, T2, and T-Salvation.
Nah there is only two Terminators👇🏻

T2 Judgment Day

"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" was a lazy, beat-for-beat rehash of T2.
Change my mind.
I’ve been saying this since day one after the theatre. Loved the movie. Glad there are some people out there that feel the same.
I just watched it. It was awesome. Definitely the third best in the franchise
The least they could've done was keep Moon Bloodgood's topless scenes in the final cut
This movie is the third best in the series and I don’t mean that to be an insult. I loved this movie. I will never understand the hate that it gets. It is 1000% superior to #3 and anything else that came after it.
Salvation and the Original were my favorites.
I didn’t love it, but at the very least I was happy that it didn’t do the same thing over and over again. It’s usually protector and Terminator come from future, Terminator to kill protagonist, and protector to protect protagonist. And that’s pretty much the whole film. This one didn’t do that. Thank god.
SALVATION is my third favorite after the first two. This was the right direction to take the series. Can't believe they didn't stick with it.
Also, this is set over 11 years before the Future War of the originals so the look does make sense.
"Ohhhhh, goooood for you!" ;-)
"I want you off the comment section you prick. Don't just comment, think". How can I forget the lovely rant we got from this movie.
I agree. I think my main complaint is that it didn’t have the that 80s Techno Future aesthetic. Besides that the film was great!
@@vincenzotrujillo56Keep in mind salvation takes place early in the war
Glad to see a lot of people like this movie. Quite entertaining, nice sfx and the setting in the future should've been explored more in the following movies. In fact, I'll unashamedly watch it anytime I come across it on cable.
“The Excellent Dark Fate” 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
I really like Salvation, but I also liked the first 3 episodes of Star Wars when it was extremely uncool to do so.
I hope you meant the “annals of sci-fi” and not what you said “the anals” because only dark fate belongs in the latter (popular opinion)
Salvation is easily the best of the post T2 movies
Thank you! I love this movie, and have always felt that it worked as a sequel to the previous trilogy. And also, it’s strong enough to to hold up on its own. This film connects everything together in such a subtly effective way.!
Salvation is by far the best Post T2 movie, Dark Fate was a huge disapointment
Salvation is prob. the worst, no plot w/ deadly serious tone and stupid robots everywhere. Total waste of talented actors who should have not signed up
People shouldn't blame TIM MILLER for what happened to DARK FATE
It was James Cameron's idea to kill John Connor
Miller was just directing the movie
Nah, he still needs blame too. It's not like killing him was the only problem with the movie.
Miller said in an interview that he was all on board with the idea too, so he shares the blame.
@@windowsVD But not the kind of blame that that should discard him entirely.
He is still a good director.
@@Zombiesnyder13 Hardly, compared to Cameron in his prime, Miller is just another director for hire.

I liked the movie but thought the ending was weak.
did you say Dark Fate (aka I need your clothes, your boots and your mestrualcycle) that spat on all the iconic characters (dead Connor, Grandpa Arnie) was excellent ?
Without a doubt the 3rd best terminator film. Christian bale and the rest of the cast is really good also I liked the story.
Salvation was the first and only perfect, true post Judgement Day (T2) Terminator film.

"Excellent Dark Fate"????
I liked it. Hell of a lot better than Genesis and Dark Fate. Should have called it Terminator 4
Movie mistake explained. )
The simple fact is, most women do not know they are pregnant until the first missed period, so Sarah could have already been pregnant, and not known it yet, thus making Kyle, even in the new timeline, not the father.

It's to bad they didn't fallow up with this concept as a trilogy. Considering that the next two were Doo Doo
I felt the mistake the movie was taking away the aesthetics of the 80’s future war
This was just the first part of that war. The next two films would mostly likely have gotten us there.
It was brilliant, i loved it so much and after a rewatch recently i felt it like a breeze of fresh air into a stagnant franchise.
In my opinion, the terminator franchise ended right with this underrated movie
But at 1:21??? Wtf? Dark fate isn’t an excellent movie, is a bad worst shit unnecessary movie
I have watched after 13 years ( finally) and I think as a stand alone film holds up pretty well.
I'm cool with people saying it's underrated, but "really damn good" is not a phrase that describes any of the terminator movies after T2.
I really enjoyed this movie too. You want the extended version as it adds a couple of more minutes which are worthwhile.
Oh my god, someone who agrees with me about this movie
Uh, this movie had so much potential, it almost hurts.
We need a Terminator TV show set in future (with Judgment Day happened in 1997) something in vein of The Walking Dead, maybe. And yes, It will probably coast a lot (like a LOT of money), but a man can dream, right?
Sarah Connor chronicles *cough*
I have literally been defending this movie since it came out
literally as opposed to metaphorically?
I still don’t understand the hate for this 🙁
This was easily the last good Terminator film.
T4 at least tried, they really did. Like I said its not perfect but enjoyable.
Its not as bad as Sega Geneshit but its fine, nothing wrong with that. Like I said, it has problems.
Does anyone notice the scene when Kyle Reese and Sams Character first hop into a car and Alice In Chains is playing, Kyle asks Sam "what is that music"?
How does Kyle know what music is?

Well put
Christian Bale was a great John Conner in my humble opinion
“Excellent Dark Fate” 😂😂that’s hilarious
Its probably the best of the sequels after T3 and arguably better than that movie as well. At least the concept was interesting I'm sure everyone wanted to see a movie about the future war. We just need this concept and an R rating to have a truly great Terminator sequel again!
Sky net was always the villain of the Terminator movies the Terminator are just it’s minion.
I laughed for a second when I misheard you say "The Excellent 'Dark Fate'" lol..........
Rewatched it recently, and it's a solid flick for sure and a shame it didn't continue considering what we got later. Question, is there any significant connection to Terminator 3 somehwere in there, because otherwise, you could just consider T1, T2, and Salvation a nice little trilogy.
"Excellent Dark Fate"
And there goes my attention for this video.
I really enjoyed Terminator Salvation when it first came out in theaters. After owning it Blu-Ray, I conclude it is one of my favorite sci-fi movie of all time.
Same here, watched it a bunch of times.
