Unfiltered I Changes in immigration laws: Minister Aaron Motsoaledi

  • Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
  • Migration has increasingly become a global hot potato. In South Africa, battles have entered previously unchartered territory, as the state pushes back against migration-related litigation. This comes after the Constitutional court imposed personal cost orders against the Home Affairs Minister and his Director General and barred their lawyer from claiming any fees for the case.
As countries increasingly face internal political pressure from citizens affected by various socio-economic challenges, South Africa is not spared. Many citizens who bear the brunt of illegal migration blame the state for the overburdened social system. Will the overhaul of immigration laws address the migration-related problems South Africa faces?
Joining me for this discussion is South Africa's Minister of the Home Affairs Department, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi.

The Minister of the Department of Home Affairs has given many proposals in his published white paper, which can be passed by the Parliament and given legal status. It is proposed that South African women who marry foreigners should not be given grants and other benefits to their children and that foreigners who have acquired citizenship or who will become citizens in the future should not be given any kind of pension or grant. The proposal to increase the period of citizen application from five years to ten years has been given in the white paper. It is also proposed to impose a condition for the applicants of Asalim Seeker to obtain a verification letter from their embassy.

The issue is that this minister is always explaining himself. Just apply the law the correct way, you dont need to be apologetic for telling foreigners to follow laws of the land. If they have issues with that they are more than welcome to to go elsewhere. All these people were not and did now want to come to SA pre-94, we are inheriting problems. Countries have laws and the very same people follow those laws in other countries without complaints but when they come here they have many complaints because you allow them the latitude to keep challenging you instead of following laws.

Babs is not being implemented correctly at home affairs. A person makes an appointment for 8:30 . From experience Babs allocates 20 - 30 for 8:30 . Collection of documents is not on babs , people wait for hours. The sms system informing an applicant to collect is non functional. Collection of documents is opened to bribery. Bribery disenfranchises the poor or those who are able to pay a bribe to collect their documents.

Visa free doesn't mean it's free for all in those countries. Go to Botswana now with no papers and see what will happen to you. Not just Botswana any one of the countries that you've just mention. Do it.

At least there is one thing that the ANC is doing right.
I wish the EFF was listening and would stop with this thing of opening borders, because their stance/policy on immigration is costing them votes. If they can fix it the will gorven South Africa.

The Minister is talking about Illegal immigrants. However, it is affecting even the legal one. Those university lecturers who came to the country through critical skill permits are in problem. Because their spouse cannot get a visa or permit.

Our constitution is seriously flawed it needs to be amended. A lot of rights within it are not beneficial to the development of the country and have a lot of loopholes.

As long as the System and officials are not really doing their work then it’ll be just a continuation of wind blowing.
I spend R1000 every month going to the boarder but officials are insulting us for compliance.
Security is asking bribes in the boarders.
