I’m so glad you woke up one morning and decided to start making UA-cam videos! I’ve learnt an incredible amount from you so far. Here’s hoping that next year will be the one I take the leap to starting a small jewellery business 💚
Adriana, I really like your presentation style. You are interpersonally soothing. You speak clearly. You're humble, and don't make assumptions that we know everything. This was a particularly helpful topic because I'm trying to learn to set faceted gems. Prongs were easy, but this was a total mystery. Thanks for all the time you put into recording and editing on top of my thanks for the content.
passion and sincerity are two important things people look for in a jeweler, and your videos show you to be this type of person. i look forward to seeing your channel and businness grow! thank you for inspiring me to get into jewelry as well
Thank you so so much, that means a lot! 🥲 💕 And thank you for being here, I hope you have the best experience with this craft and that I can continue to inspire you in any way! 🥹💕
We practice on brass because it's more or less the same hardness as gold. So, if you plan to work on gold It makes sense to practice on brass. If you only want to work with silver you can practice on copper, which is approximately the same hardness, or go directly to silver.
@@hannahrebecca7152 It really depends on the alloy. 18 karat gold, which is the most used in jewelry, could be harder or softer depending on the other metals is mixed with. Anyway, brass it's what comes closer to it in terms of hardness, although it's true that it tends to be a bit harder, but not much if it has been properly annealed.
@@Enrithesetter What Alloy of Brass as there are at least 30 alloys of it? even properly annealed the stuff i bought at the hardware store work hardens in 2 hits of a hammer, well copper i can hit at least 10. and i have forged down copper into twezers and a band.
@@gundanium3126 I don't know what's the alloy as I have used it only briefly in school, but I would avoid hardware store brass. Also, if you are going to hammer on it I don't think It would be a good gold simulant. It is used for practice in gem setting, and I can confirm it is fine for that purpose since I learned that way and I work on gold now.
@@Enrithesetter@Enrithesetter I would think the Stone setting does cause at least a little bit of work to harden the material a bit as it is borderline engraving in this sense. I have read that some consider Bronze, Brass, and I just hammer-tested a bit of silicon bronze, and that moves beautifully under the hammer. I am a blacksmith, and some of those skills do translate into other metals.
Thank you for sharing. You have a lovely way of explaining and your video is well crafted. I myself am just starting of in ring making and you have given me great inspiration. Thank you.
Been cutting Australian opal for years and now starting to teach myself to make my own jewelry out of my stones. Just subscribed because I want to learn with someone that is doing it the same as me that is ahead but still learning also! I feel it will be very advantageous to see your journey as I'm going to be going through it right behind you! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Thank you, I’m so glad you’re here and I completely agree! That’s what I was looking for when I was just starting was someone that was new too that I could relate to 🙈💜. I hope I can help and be that for you! 💜
You are adorable... I to am self taught but just turned 60....This will be my retirement plan as I am soooo happy when in my unfinished basement much like yourself........ You have a very positively calming energy! thanks for sharing....I will be learning to grave very soon just have to get a few more pieces finished and on to the next learning curve.... 😇
Thank you so much!!! It's so nice to "meet" you! ❤🤗 I wish you TONS of luck with your graving journey, it's something I would love to become good at one day but i'm trying to force myself to focus right now so I am putting my blinders on to new techniques until I nail down some of the things I have already started lol Thank you for being here! ❤
Hi Adriana! I love the way your ring turned out! I like how the grain almost looks like tiny diamonds!! You did an excellent job!! I am new to making jewelry as well. I just started in 12/2023. I started with wire wrapping first and then got hooked on metalsmithing. I have only made one ring so far and that was out of copper tubing that I flattened and soldered together (sloppily). I hope that I can get as good as you one day!!🤞
Thank you so much! I bet your ring looked great! You should see the first ring I EVER soldered lol I found it the other day and was blown away! 🙊 You'd be surprised at how quickly you can grow when practice a lot. You got this!! ❤
I am glad to find your channel, jumping in the deep end and am going to turn my sometimes hobby into a full-time passion. I love your style of presentation, you have excellent teaching skills without the know it all snobbery. Setting gems scares the hell out of me, I have always sent my setting to someone else, you have inspired me to try, thankyou!
Love watching your videos friend even though I don’t make jewelry! Haha but it makes me feel like I’m hanging out with you again 😇 miss you! You’re doing great! 🤩❤️
Loved your video, like the technique, "push, wiggle wiggle and raise up" sounds like a dance move! I've done some engraving but used copper, as its nice and soft, but can be gritty. Liked your tips on sharpening. I find getting the right shape on the graver so difficult. You are ahead of yourself as I heard from other jewellers, that they practise on brass preparing for 9ct gold, (as it's hard).
Thank you so much! I can imagine what that dance move would look like! 😂🙈 I have never practiced one copper! Maybe that's the best option? lol and YES you are right about 9K gold, brass is more similar to that in hardness!
love your work and your videos as i learn a lot from you each and every video and i am also just starting out on my journey so want to learn as much as possible and like you i am self taught in everything not that that holds me back at all with all the great help from great people like you on you tube.
Someone may have already mentioned, but cup burrs are a tool that cut and are used in your flexshaft/dremel/pendant drill. The tools used here are beading tools :) A little tip- dont forget saftey glasses whenever you drill/burr/sand/polish, you want to always protect your eyes from flying debris. I thinn sometimes health and safety is overlooked in the self taught community. Stay safe friends!
Thank you, I’m really happy to help!! I don’t typically anneal the ring since it’s pretty soft after casting. The only time I anneal before stone setting is if I had to hammer the ring to shape it up after casting. ☺️
Amazing!! Thank you! I was trying to set my stones in already polished silver and was strugggggling but am going to try on my casted piece! Thank you for the advice!

Also, can you please do a video of how you did the texture on this as it’s gorgeous?! And where did the cup burr set come from, I really need that
This is a beading/ grain tool set, buy from jewellery suppliers. In the uk buy from Cookson gold, Cousins, or HS walsh, £10 approx for a set.
@KS-hz1i Are you saying you think she raised grains all over the piece and used the beading tool to do the texture?

Beautiful ring! I think I will try this myself :D btw, what kind of texturing is that please? Did you just use a tiny ball burr? Thank you

How long does it typically take you to finish a ring? In terms of the 'hands on' part of the process, so not counting waiting for moulds to set etc.

What is meant by grains? I know I feel foolish asking😂The ring is beautiful!!!!!

Where did you find your Spitz Stick? I can’t seem to find one!
I’m you can get them on Rio Grande or cooks on gold if you’re in the UK 💜 I believe the technical name for this graver is an onglette graver 💜
Curious where did you get your ring vice from or what's it called?
It’s a GRS Encore Vice💜 I have it linked in my Amazon Storefront in the stone setting tools section 💜
