  • John Sweeney's latest book Killer in the Kremlin explores Vladimir Putin's career, from KGB agent to becoming Russia's president.
Discussing extract of the book, Sweeney said:
"Putin is not mad in the clinical psychiatric sense," and the Russian withdrawal from the battle of Kyiv is evidence of that.
He added that Putin is "much weaker than we think he is."
Detailing how Putin's face had changed since he met him following the shooting down of MH17, Sweeney said that the defeat of the Russian army this winter or spring "will have a catastrophic effect" on Russia's president.

On the other side EU has absorbed millions of refugees ( women and children ). In Germany they are given places to stay paid by the govt., a monthly allowance which is only reserved for German citizens, fully state financed German language courses etc. this runs into a fair amount of money.
The Ukrainians also have a huge problem of Russian infiltration into their military setup. Weapons are sent over only to be blasted by the Russians. Hence selensky has been forced to purge his secret service etc. of traitors. Of course Putin is first and and foremost a trained criminal. He’s had so many of his Opponents, even in foreign countries, murdered. Merkel in Germany chose to ignore this as long as cheap gas was delivered. She had a phrase „Wandel durch Handel“ which means change through trade. A mistake that we are all paying a high price for.

You can admire the Ukrainian grit in this fight, but people need to quit making them out to be some bastion of democracy that threw down the gauntlet to save the West; simply put, they were unfortunate enough not to have chosen to join NATO when they had the chance (like Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, etc.) and found themselves as a testing ground between NATO and totalitarian regimes in the East. My view as a grandad is that losing is not an option - particularly not as in every resourse but one we are 20x more powerful than Putin..

The story you often here about how he became president after Yeltsin is he was trusted to not arrest (or worse) any of Yeltsin family for corruption but there’s good reason to believe it was a proverbial gun to the head rather than trust and Putin and the FSB effectively organised a coup.

Apart from being physically weedy, he was also illegitimate and adopted into a family at the age of 9. So he was marginalised and an outsider and has been faking it ever since.

Excellent interview with this man John Sweeney. Time well spent. Thank you Times Radio for this.
Sweeney's assessments of Putin I couldn't agree with any more than I do. He's right on. It's obvious he's well corroborated his own theories, and thoughts on the subject.
In addition he's gone into these places and witnessed that of which he's speaking of so instant respect there from me.
As for Vladimir Putin, I watched for many years dating back to when Yeltsin appointed him as his successor, and even before that.
I knew that Putin as a former KGB operative was never comforted by the fall of the Soviet Union, and how it had fragmented.
I knew it had to have had a profound impact on him as it truly was, " his family ". This was so easily to be seen. This was a guy, and an eventual Russian leader that could never be trusted.
Yet, I watched him manipulate, and navigate the Western World, American President after American President, along with other naive Western European leaders presenting himself deftly as a world statesman.
For me, when he fixed his earlier, " election ", by appointing Medvedev to the Russian Presidency, and then Medvedev appointed him to the Prime Minister position, that just confirmed for me where this was all heading.
He attained the confidence in knowing how easily he could shape the West. I believe this was all around 2004. When after his half hearted charade of a democratic electoral process re-installed him as the new Russian President.
President Bush stating, ' I looked into his eyes, and could see his soul ", literally made me nauseous. I knew what we had on our hands.
I cannot believe we permitted ( we meaning all of the West ) this guy to continue to operate unabated as he was for all of this time.
I knew I just couldn't be the only one out there knowing this. In listening to John Sweeney here, I believe now that perhaps I wasn't.
It provides however no relief. Now, we've absolutely got to clean this mess up. Together, right now. Thank you,
    Glory to God,
    Victory for Ukraine,
    Rise Free Nations!
