Good review matt!covered most things i think.is that vibration through the pegs normal?is it due to the engine characteristics? This might be a silly question, but do you get any wind down from shaft driven bikes these days? Thats the best colour scheme, and i like the lights and stance.its just too pipe and slippers for me tbh.its the sdr's grandad isnt it!😂
Hay Mart, Vibrations wise i would say yes, most of the 1250 engines I’ve tested all give that same feedback. But again i like engines with character, these, v2/v4 they all come with their own little qwerks and usually vibes are one of them. When i moan too much about the vibes ill just go over to the Jap side and stop my B*tching. :)
My nephew borrowed my R12R LC while here in Spain (I rode my R1150R). He struggled with the shaft and getting smooth gear changes - but he rides a Triumph Street Triple 675 so guess it was a stepped change for him.
Good summary Matt. You nailed the main points. 100% agree regarding the difference compared to the GSA. Swapping from my 1250GSA to my wife's 1250R you wouldn't think it's the same motor -- the thing is a rocket! With the Akrapovic it also sounds pretty decent as well -- lots of pops, farts and fun noises on overrun. The seat options are a huge help for my VERY short wife. Hers is kitted out with panniers, GS sump guard, hand guards, bar risers, TKC70 tyres and screen. It's basically a super low GS and goes pretty much everywhere my GSA does, including many, many kilometres of floodwater up to 700mm deep during our floods last year and lots of gravel road use where it is quite capable.
Had thought about this for the green lanes for Zoe, definitely something to consider. How is the bike for ground clearance when doing light off road rides?
@@DSR1YT -- not too bad. We did remove the standard bellypan and replace it with a standard GSA aluminium sumpguard, which has only touched grounds a couple of times. It's more for protection from stones and rocks thrown up by the front wheel, probably less of a consideration on UK green lanes than, say, the Flinders Ranges in South Australia 😉
@@couttsy222 Got more chances of my dropping it on the side of the engine over jumping over something that's going to hit the bottom 😁. Although I was on some bigs whoops the other day and it sounded like I was bottoming out, but I think it was the centre stand falling down a few inches with gravity then springing back up and hitting the bike, something I need to look in to as it didn't sound healthy 🤣
@@DSR1YT Yes, my wife does let her 1250R lay down for a nap every so often. After knocking one of the cam covers slightly askew after a hard drop on a rather rocky track, her bike now runs both the optional BMW crash bars as well as the "bra cup" bolt on head covers.
March 2024 I finally have a build date on my Triple Black 1250R At least here in the states these bikes as rare as hens teeth. Nice review! Have you ridden the new S1000R (I have one - and love it)? Really keen to try this new 1250 R to see how much the greater torque makes a difference to a spirited road ride!? I assume you can use more of the 1250 R performance, more of the time?
Hay there JBH, yes I have reviewed (video on my channel) the S1000r, the s1000r is a great bike with an awesome in-line four engine. This engine in this platform to me breaches that gap of fun and excitement in the lower gears / speeds. Where as the S1000R needs you to be going that little bit faster like most sports bikes do. Get yourself on a demo ride to find out.
Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the review. I actually reviewed the RS the other week but the rainy UK weather ruined my mic connection so had no audio. I’ll be back out on the RS soon to re do the video 😂🤦🏻
I'm currently on a Ducati Diavel and struggling with the vibes through the handlebars causing extreme hand numbness. I've tried all the typical remedies of body position, bar weights, gel pad gloves, etc. I think my hands are very sensitive to vibrations. What was your experience with vibrations of the handle bars on this bike?
I too tend to complain about vibes a lot of there are any. This bike is pretty good for vibes. Also a fun bike which I don’t think enough people consider for a good naked bike.
Good, comprehensive overview of what appears, overall, to be an excellent machine, even for anti-tech, senile old codgers like me! 😊 You didn't mention if this bike comes with a quick shift. Other reviews have stated it can be a little clunky. If this bike was so fitted, what were your impressions?
Hay Mark, this did indeed come with a QS, apologies for not including this in the video, like most of the 1250 engines, i find when gently accelerating and shifting around 4/5k rpm, it shifts nice a smoothly. When aggressively accelerating and shifting using the QS it can be a little clunky and give a slight delay in motion, giving the body that awkward movement. Hopefully that makes sense :)
30-40kg of luggage? What do you keep in there, a corpse? 😅 It's an amazing bike, not meant to ride at 130mph, but with 140+ torque she is a joy to ride!

I ordered a TripleBlack version with the Akrapovic exhaust. I should have it mid-June. I can't wait. Thanks for you video.
Enjoy it. That’s going to sound awesome with that exhaust on it too. Glad you enjoyed the video. Ride safe.

Sorry Ian. This is just a demo bike I took out so wouldn’t be able to price it up. Jump on bmw website. Pretty decent bike builder on there. 😁🤙

Don’t even think about adding my weight in to it 😂😂. It’s a decent bike though. Don’t let that weight put you off 😀
