- Can you imagine if Frank Lloyd Wright, the American architect, designer, writer, and educator was alive today building campervans? In todays video we feature Connor and his 2019 RAM ProMaster 159" Extended high roof DIY camper van conversion that was self built. This homemade class B rv motorhome has many gadgets inside that will wow you. Connor and his dog have been living full time in the van traveling the Country and have now settled in the New York City area.

More Van Details
Imagine if an architect walked into a van with an electrical engineer and said “Let’s do this!” I call this Ram Promaster 159in Extended “Frank the Van” and he’s full of one-of-a-kind architectural details inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, full off-grid/all-season capability, and top notch amenities.
The short and sweet: I built the van around stealth city living, but suspension upgrades + thoughtful system design allow for complete off-grid style too. 510 amp hours of lithium battery, 3 modes of charging, and enough water for a month before fill up make maintenance easy. A front + rear suspension upgrade + plenty of exterior storage makes overlanding as fun as city living.
Plus have you ever seen a van with:
-A Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass window replica, acting as a reading light.
-Southwest-themed wood inlays echoing Frank Lloyd Wright’s time in Arizona.
-Frank Lloyd Wright inspired carvings captured in the bench and cabinets.
Kitchen/Front
Isotherm 130 Drawer 12v fridge (the only model with a full width freezer).
Two butcher block countertops (one 24” deep, the other 15” deep).
Portable induction stove runs off the battery-NO propane/diesel in this van.
Deep sink w/ extending Moen faucet.
Airhead composting toilet.
800 watt Panasonic microwave.
Front seats on factory swivels. (Factory swivels are the ONLY way to maintain original seat height for tall riders).
Bed/Lounge/Rear
Lagun swivel table w/ custom inlay. Extra large table size.
Lounge area designed to the size of a twin bed. Just lay down to go to bed.
Dismount the table and drop it into place to create a queen size bed.
Custom real leather cushions w/ highest grade 4” foam for sleeping comfort. Easy to clean + become more beautiful with age.
Access the lights, heater, inverter, and battery monitor switches from the rear lounge/bed-no need to get up all the time to turn things on and off!
Storage
Three cubby holes in lounge bench w/ wood inlays.
Two upper cabinets w/ grain matched + embedded doors create a streamlined look.
Full height cabinet (currently stores toilet, folding bike, and microwave).
24” deep counter side has a pull out pantry and under-sink storage.
15” deep counter side has six drawers w/ magnetic latches when driving.
“Kick to open” toe kick drawers look like toe kicks but provide a tone of extra secret storage.
Small item storage built into the slider and rear access doors with wood paneling.
Deep cab shelf for big items.
Yakima roof box + two Aluminess large swing away storage boxes for non-daily things.
Electrical
Three Renogy 170ah batteries create 510 amp hours of lithium power.
Recharge the system via a 320 watt REC solar panel, Renogy 40 amp DC-DC charger (while driving), or shore power.
Renogy 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter
30 gallon fresh water tank inside the van (prevents winter freezing).
7 gallon gray water tank inside van drains with a remote switch.
4 gallon Bosch water heater.
2.5 gallon Berkey Water Filter w/ a custom stand included.
Interior showers are accomplished using an expandable shower pan. An exterior shower is built into the rear of the van.
Exterior
VanCompass 2” Lift Kit w/ Super Springs, rear FOX Shocks, AND front Bilstein Shocks.
Aluminess rear swing away storage boxes (2) with an included side-mount recovery kit, one top-rail kit, and two interior shelves.
I've been watching van build videos for 7 years, and this is my favorite one. It is well thought out and extremely pleasing to the eye. I'm so impressed that he built this without previous experience in the building trades. Well done! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

That is most important to us as well the protection & safety of our fur baby, Smitty. He is absolutely the joy of our life. Even when we take him for a ride anyplace in any vehicle he wears a harness and is then strapped into the car seat belt system. 1 he doesn't get hurt hopefully by being thrown around inside of the vehicle.
2 he doesn't get loose in traffic if involved in an accident & possibly cause another accident.
Dogs loose in a car can cause a problem with distraction to the drivers attention.
Van is really well thought out and put together. After the 1st week or so using it full time, did you think of anything you wanted or could have added or did add. I believe that using it would be the best test to see if you missed anything.
Good luck with selling. Bummer part is instead of buying from you someone might try to build their own. But hopefully there are more people that would just want someone else to do the work.

This is a professional organizer’s dream design! Everything is exactly where used and everything has a place. I love how the electrical and systems are placed. I love how everything is so easily accessed from inside. Very well designed both from a practical and aesthetic standpoint. I love the dog and how well he is cared for and an integral part of life!

This van is freaking amazing. I really find it hard to believe that he has never done something like this before. Superb work. I especially like the part at the 10 minute mark where the dog is scooting his butt on the carpet. 😀

Right when I think I’ve seen it all this van build comes along. The way he designed the space makes it look huge. The foldable bike idea was genius. That refrigerator/freezer is the way to go with the spaciousness of it. The lay in work tuned out great. He definitely underestimates himself and the talent he has. Not many would take a class to learn electronics and actually comprehend the material. He could start his own company and be busy for many years, if so desired. Patrick I don’t know how you continue to find talented people like this, but happy that you do.

Nice cabinetry and love that refrigerator! Like the "afterthought" cabinet behind the driver's seat. The openness of the interior is very appealing. Amazing for a first time builder, impressive!

This is the best van built I ever saw on UA-cam. It’s absolutely amazing. He must be very smart and patient to learn and figure out all the systems and design. I’ll definitely uses lot of his ideas when I’m ready to build my own.

This is an amazing build. Custom designed, exactly the way a van should be built. Great use of every inch of space. I really like how the electronics are up and easily accessible, giving him extra space. I also love the Berkey holder. I see many vans and RV's with Berkeys but not stabilized. This is great.

Finally get quantum math mechanics. I couldn’t figure out why this build was so visually pleasing. The bond between the two is so strong. The expression on Harry’s face when he went to set up the cushions to show off the bed was hysterical. You could tell that they slept next to one another. The whole “ situation” was beautiful.

Connor here! Yeah, the stain glass was hard to secure. I ended up building a frame that holds the stainless via these soft rubberized pads (if you look close you can see them in each corner of the stain glass. That whole frame has LED backlighting and is actually pushed 2" into the wall. The pads absorb vibration and bumps to prevent the glass from shattering. Then, to make it look nice, I hid the frame under the white matting and surrounded it with the cherry picture frame for the finished look. The real secret is that it's two frames in one--one structural, and one for looks ;-)

I loved the dog he actually made the video very fun he acts like a cat. This is one of the best van videos I’ve seen in a while. It’s awesome to see how everyone makes their van specific to their own needs. The one thing that’s missing for me would be a specific shower. I know he mentioned something about having some shower items he didn’t go into any detail. I love his attention to detail with his in lei patterns and that he didn’t paint any of his wood. Really well thought out van & brilliantly done & your first time ever. Love how you encourage as you go along & not afraid to say you may make a mistake, really humble, very nice trait to have. It's beautiful! I built mine by myself too, studying electrical and plumbing during civid lockdowns. I did have help getting the solar panels up on the roof. Mine is more than a vacation home for work trips than a full time home. Enjoy!!

My wife and I did the same thing not having any idea how to start. My wife was the planner, and I made it happen, we have been on trips and then modified when we got home. It is amazing how much information is available on the internet, not just the how but the why it is better to do something in a certain way at a certain stage. It is an awesome experience and watching this video has started the Adrenalin going again after 2 years of lockdowns and travel restrictions. He did a great job for learning as he goes. I feel like for the most part diy and being new at this is a set back. But not that much yeah it takes longer because of lack of experience but the end result tend to be great and I haven't seen a video on here where the builder wasn't proud of what they did. I mean even the pro builders for van life or rv whatever mess up. A few being big channels here on youtube have poor opinions or over generalize best building practices. But this dude did an awesome job. I can't wait to maybe one day share my rv when it's done. But till then I'll keep watching and taking mental notes.
