I know by Scottish standards that this grand structure is not considered to be old. By American standards, it is. It is a shame that it has gone to such ruin. Thank you for showing us this beautiful old home.
What a fascinating, yet sad, Castle. It would be magnificent if someone with deep pockets see fit to bring this place back to its glory. Thank you for sharing this!
I know Dunalastair House well. Have visited the ruin several times in the last 30 or 40 years. But, as a child, from age 6 to 8, it was my home (1945-1948). It was then a residential / boarding secondary school for Polish WW2 refugee girls. My mother was a maths teacher there. I was a very young boy surrounded by scores of somewhat older young girls. If this sounds like an idyllic existence, you must be looking at it from the perspective of someone significantly older than 6 or 7 years. I still have some (B&W) photos of the house as it was at that time. Alex.
That is a very interesting story, thanks for sharing. Prior to your stay, the Castle was a Polish Military High School. My father, Captain Stanisław Szafran, finished his military education here in 1942 before being shipped off to Italy and fight at the famous Battle of Monte Cassino. I have been to the ruins on 2 occasions, 2011 and 2014, when we came to spread some of my father's ashes. That was one of his last wishes before he passed in 2014. He greatly enjoyed his time here and often spoke of the antics that went on in and around the castle and Pitlochry. Shame that it has fallen from grace. Like you, I too have some photos from it's glory days during my father's stay. He is in many of them as are his class mates.
I'm so sad that this is the last Scottish adventure for you Shawn for a long time. I hope you share your travels through out the UK and specially London.
I loooove the drone shot coming up the tower! The camera's nice and sharp and I can feel the height and movement. Very nice! And ya know I'm also enthralled by the beauty of ruins. With the trees and ferns up through the floors. The exposed inside of the stonework. There's something more accessible about it. More fertile for my imagination. And truly lovely. I played the video twice. I loved it, thank you so much, Shaun! Good luck on your move! Oh, and what pretty chocolates! Choclaholic heaven!
Hurts my heart to see this gorgeous castle in ruins, the history it holds, I wish someone with the means to do so would restore it. Feel the same when I see " LALLYBROCH "
Thank you Shaun. You made my sick day an adventure!!! Castle and chocolate , that is my dream day! Now I can spend the rest of my day reading the history!!
150 years is old to those of us in the US! I wonder if those Robertsons are my Scottish Robertsons who came to South Carolina. I'll have to do more family research.
Great vlog Shaun! I agree with you ruined castles and manor houses have a rather haunting but charming beauty to them. And loved the bit of humour in the beginning! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Shaun! Beautiful castle! I love how the ferns grow up through the rubble. Great shots with the drone! Here in the West end have a lot of ghost towns. Usually old mining towns abandoned. You would love it. Funny, they date back to the 1850s. So you have castles and we have old frontier shacks and log homes! I would love to visit the castles in Scotland. I've been to every ghost town in Utah and Nevada. I'm sad this is the last Scotland video you'll be making for a while. But I understand, life is expensive and you have to go where the work is. Please keep us updated on Patreon! Safe travels, and blessings to you and Teka as you embark on your next adventure.
I'm near the borders Shaun, in the northeast. I visit alot of Castles. Would love it if you looked for more castles like this in Scotland. Brill work Shaun cheers! 👍

Beautiful old building shame to see the state it’s in today would love to visit here perfect for photos. Amazing Sunday nights viewing. Thank you Shaun for sharing.
Hi Shaun. Thanks for showing is this magnificent castle!! It looks like a huge structure, large piece of property/land. It's a pity that it can't be restored. Best of luck with your plans to move. Look forward to your future videos! 👍😊
Awesome video. It's crazy that we live literally 30 minutes from there and we've never even heard of it! What a stunning building, hopefully it doesn't become just a pile of stone in the future!
I agree, the history & mystique of ruined castles is absolutely fascinating! It's really cool to imagine things as they were, rather than see people's updates or recreations. Thanks for sharing the great video and stories, very much appreciated.
Stunning! I love how the plants have taken over, it adds to the beauty! Thanks for taking us there. The Chocolate looked delicious, he needs to expand to the states. I hope the move goes smoothly, and is not due to unfortunate circumstances.
Magnificent! I can only image this true beauty back in the day and how she shined. Too bad these castles weren't ever preserved. Such a shame that Scotlands history is laying in shambles. Excellent video Shaun! Blessings to you and your family. Hello to Justine, please. Have a great week. 💜
Im so happy to see a new video from you Shaun! Love the masonary work. That place is dangerous you could get hurt. Its once was a beautiful place. I wish they restore it. Maybe it's to far gone. Thank you for my stress relief.
How cool is this place? I wonder what kind of archaeology has been done on it? Now I have to poke around and stir up the interwebs to try and find out more...
Thanks for sharing the ruined castle. It was awesome that Justine found an old candle holder. Makes my imagination run away. Poor Jacobite who originally owned the place. So sad. I’m also a chocolate lover. That looked sooo good. I’ll miss your Scottish road trips. Hello to your family.
Wow!!! What an amazing place!!! Well they don’t have to totally restore the castle but at least clean it up and make it safe to tour. Sad to see it decay. Thank you Shawn for documenting it before it is gone forever.
I Love-Love-Love this video! I love exploring old places and this one was great! What a beautiful old home. Sad to see the condition it is in. I'm glad you were able to find out its history. Even tho.i.am sad to hear that this will be your last Scottish road trip for awhile however I'm looking forward to your new adventures!!! Thank you Shaun!!

Thanks Shaun for sharing your trip! I hope the castle is spared, but it looks like it will be lost to the ravages of time and money. The stone walls look like they are in good shape. I can’t imagine the cost of just roofing material for it. Such a treasured piece of history being taken back by the forest is sad to see. Best of luck to you guys on your move, and look forward to your next Adventure. From a farm in North Carolina, Amy

I assume this dates back to the time it was a boarding school for Polish children. Great place in a wonderful part of the country.
Loved seeing the castle. Much as I'd love to see it restored, the sad fact is that it would probably be much safer and much, MUCH cheaper to raze it and build anew. I saw at least three places in this video where the walls will come down in the next 2 or 3 years, but who knows? Could be some rich man with more romance than sense will fall in love with the castle and decide to help preserve it before it's too late.
