    This is my first time planting pumpkins and I think I may have come up with a new idea for preventing/detouring squash vine bore. I kept the plants covered with tulle as insect netting but they’re large and starting to vine out, so...I cut the netting into strips and wrapped the vines loosely. It sticks to the little hairs like Velcro but loose enough to allow for growth and not impending the flowers but you can cover almost completely all around the base and out each and every vine. They can still root along the vine too, and it allows for air sun an water to reach the plant. Time consuming?, yes a little but I only have a few plants and don’t want to risk loosing any. We’ll see how it goes. Just wanted to share a new idea!

    Hey brother. I found your channel a few months ago and have been hooked. I started using the fish emulsion fertilizer and am VERY impressed and satisfied with the results. I wanted to ask if you've ever used garlic and onion puree with water as a pesticide and/or insect repellent? Is it safe for all plants including something like strawberries? Would it be suitable to just use mint and rosemary or marigold? Unfortunately oregano is not an herb I planted but after this video its on my to do list. I have a thousand questions but these are quite possibly the most important ones. Thank you for the knowledge you share and may GOD bless you for it. Much love and respect.

    Seems like this would also repel squirrels and other little garden visitors. I know squirrels are repelled by peppermint essential oil. I had a whole family that started visiting the bird feeders on my back deck. I loved watching them! BUT.... they eventually started chewing the wood railing. I put peppermint essential oil on cotton balls and placed them all over. Worked like magic! The squirrels were safe and my deck was saved! I bet this spray would work for other animals too.

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  Рік тому +1

      the JHS is just the boiled herbs.... the JNP includes the JHS but also adds other things such as JWA and JS and JMS in certain ratios depending on the type and severity of outbreak... for best effect the JWA is always used with JHS for proper adherence to the leaf surfaces... yes you can combine multiple herbs... its not an exact science in the sense that we just use as wide an array of natural herbs and plants as possible and for the most part its very effective... the most researched and powerful are the Jerusalem Artichoke (I've made a video)... and the Korean Pasque Flower... also the Gingko tree... those are the "go to" trio...

    So, me not having any surplus of mint/ oregano plants (working on it) I figured that essential oils will be the second best option to create a solution against my cricket issue?!
    I also made my own JWA. I am sure that will be better than straight castile soap for this recipe?!
    Just not sure how many drops of each oil in one gallon of water?

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  9 місяців тому +1

      yes essential oils work very well... I make one with about 10 drops each of mint/oregano/rosemery/thyme and up to 3 oz a gallon of JWA... thats a very powerful mixture and works to repel many things!... remember to spray only at night!!

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  2 роки тому

      the difference is the type of plant we are using... plants with volatile oils like mint and oregano do not need to be boiled as long... plants like peppers, garlic, jeruselam artichoke, etc need to be boiled 4+ hours
