- Rabbits are wreaking havoc in prized gardens.
Summer ferreting is a world away from its wintertime cousin. On a day in June, my friend Sooty and I were asked to tackle some land that, until recently, had only a handful of rabbits, but their numbers had since multiplied.
Hormonal ferrets behave completely differently from how they do when it’s cold and the trees are bare. To try to counteract this, I was working a neutered hob and a brace of older jill ferrets that rarely come into season any more. I had one eye on the weather forecast and, with an early start, thought we should be okay. I had to keep a careful eye on the ferrets, as the temperature on top of the warren isn’t necessarily the same as it is underground.
The first port of call was the ha-ha. Built to keep the grazing beasts out of the garden, it also proved to be a perfect spot for a rabbit warren. A few tunnels that plummeted to great depths had been reopened. It couldn’t have been in a worse location, right in front of the house. I surrounded it with a long-net and had my dog, Bella, marshalling proceedings in between. I slipped my trio of eager ferrets inside the pipes, picked up my flask and sat down. Rabbits from this warren never bolt.
A little while later, I took out the bright orange ferret finder to scan the ground and had my first dig of the day. I pounded away at the ground, chipping away inch by inch towards my ferrets. Beneath the ground, it must have sounded to the ferrets like King Kong stamping his feet. The reverberation unsettled two of them and they resurfaced to be boxed up, but one stuck to its task as if it were the middle of winter. I finally broke through after what felt like a lifetime, to find a jill and one dead rabbit. - Спорт

Love ferrets! Mine only killed my step- sister's hamster, but they are very cute and loads of fun. I don't think I would ever use them to kill rabbits, I was raised as a city kid so I try to avoid killing as I am uncomfortable performing the act. I do not oppose hunting and pest control though and found this video quite entertaining.

Suprised you went ferreting in summer time simon good video though and nice easy dig 2 the 1st rabbit if you can class it as a dig the wood log barn looked like hard risky ferreting but you had good luck though and the part of the video with sooty was in another video of yours wernt it
motomeady hunting nd motocross No, I don't think this hasn't been shown before but he digs almost as much as me so it may appear to be the case. I do a fair bit in gardens in the summer, digs aren't deep but ground it like iron. the wood store always has a rabbit in it and over time I have almost stripped the shell apart trying to recover rabbits and ferrets. Not for the faint hearted.
Cant beleve you replied back to me the simon whitehead ferreting man worlds best thanks very much for replying to me I own all your dvd's ect ect and watched them all endless amount of times and seen all the videos on UA-cam hundreds of times aswell im a big fan and I idealise you keep up the good work fella its a real enjoyment watching your videos and dvd's when do you next go to a game fair nearest to bedfordshire any where ? Would love to meet you and watch you shows and talks ect ect would love a days ferreting with you aswell one day i wish and the part with sooty is definitely in another video on here on youtube ill try find the video now ill tell you witch 1 it is and at what time on in the vid it is take care chap

I always make time for simon whitehead ferreting dvd or video on youtube but like I said I waych your videos all the time over and over again and no I dont get much time on my hands these days unlike when I lived with my ex and 2 kids without a job at the time but full time on a farm now and always doing vermin pest every week mainly rabbits mostly
lets hope ur ferret don't get laided up in wood shed you be there all day clearing that lot ??
