Thanks so much for filming this video - I love everything about this unit! I enjoyed getting to chat about it with you at Russ's place. In my opinion, it has the best sounding rotary I've ever heard, it's such a pleasant deep tone and never has any chatter to it whatsoever - I could listen to that and its distinct refrigerant gushing sound all day.
I bet that fan motor actually has three speeds (like the two identical units I own), it may be worth checking the wiring to see if anything's hidden in there. I would date this unit sometime around 1988-89 based on the compressor's Rotorex logo and non slide out chassis.

Very nice looking unit! I’ve heard people talk about the Rotorex compressors being junk yet funny enough around here the most common vintage units are 80s and 90s Fedders with these compressors. I gave a friend a 12,000 btu Emerson Quiet Kool made by Fedders that had a rotorex. When I got it the condenser had like an inch of cotton wood and dust in it. No airflow through the coil yet the compressor still ran just fine and cooled great. My Fedders units all have Rotorex compressors except for one and they all run great and get ice cold. The Rotorex in my 1990 10,000 BTU Fedders is near silent and runs ice cold. I understand that reciprocating compressors sound nicer and run smoother but I still think there’s nothing wrong with Rotary compressors.

Great video! I have a 10000 BTU Airtemp from 1987 with the exact overall design of this unit, even the control panel. The compressor sounds identical. I wonder if that was the way these sounded. I have a lot of use on mine so I figured the compressor was getting worn. After hearing your low hour AC, I think it is the nature of these units from that era. I love it. Take care of it.

I had a 12000 btu that looked identical to this that my family used for almost 30 years. It was still working when it was replaced with a lower btu LG unit. My Mom freaked out when hornets came through the unit into the house and had it ripped out and replaced 😞. I wish I knew whatever happened to that unit.

From what I've been able to deduct from sleuthing online, as well as component date codes from my own Fedders units, the first two digits of the serial number are the month and year respectively. AA indicates January of 1989.

That seems very likely to me.

I have a similar unit. Any ideas why the right side barely blows any air? I'd love to try to fix it.

That's standard, just the way the air ducting works. It's not broken.

Compressors are not suposed to sweat. The techs say so. The suction line is though.

I saw in the serial number it has 89 so probably from 1989.
