Refreshing to hear from the great man again. His excellence is recalled with humility, but his drive and competiveness is clear to see. Certainly the best player of his generation, arguably the best ever, but more importantly a good human being.
Jack is the definition of class. My father met him at his high school in 1977 when Jack’s son was playing his school Palm Beach Academy, my dads team lost but Jack still went into the lockeroom after the game and told the team how wonderful they played and encouraged them. Wonderful man he is!
Honestly something about Jack I always loved his interviews. So much class, and so cool to be able to know from personal experience of how the green slopes and that imagery of augusta national.
Jack is interesting because not only is he an intelligent bright man, and hey let’s be fair, there’s plenty of intelligent golfers out there, but unlike most he seems to be able express it in his conversation more so than almost all, with lots of interesting detail that’s always right on the money. He actually gave out a good tip for the golfer on how not to take golf home with them, and you know, thats actually a pretty good tip if you’re a business man too. Therefore he’ll always be good to watch. It would be interesting to know which are his favourite golf courses that he has created with his team. Maybe we should just go play them all. Actually that’s not a bad idea. Maybe brilliant.
im so glad we are getting these kind of converstions with the golden bear recorded and documented. one day he wont be with us and these videos and memories will all we have left.
Great interview...but Jack DID hit it into the water at 16. Final round 1990 Masters playing with Faldo...and '86 was the greatest Masters ever played. Anyone who disagrees I dismiss out of hand.
At 15:44 Jack says he made 8 on 15 the last day of the 1971 Masters. Actually he made 5, though he did make an 8 there in 1973. At 20:45 he says that of the 18 majors he won he led after 3 rounds on 12 occasions. In fact he won 10 from the front and eight from behind, though he did have co-leads at two majors (1971 Masters and 1977 Open) where he finished 2nd. Then Sean Zak tells Jack that Lema was tied for the lead after 54 holes of the 1963 Masters. He wasn't. Still, as you say, a great interview.
Jack is the best, I even named my second son Nicklaus. I agree with the ball discussion. I feel there is no way I should hit the ball 290 yards with a 112 mph swing, same swing with persimmon driver and balata ball is 250 Yards. Our courses, which have been around for 50+ years, are becoming obsolete. It would be more feasible to change the ball and the m.o.i. of the drivers than to try to lengthen all the courses.
JACK NICKLAUS WAS MY GOLF HERO FOR 40 OR 50 YEARS, SINCE JACK HAS GIVEN HIS ENDORSEMENT TO DONALD TRUMP, MY FEELINGS HAVE CHANGED, JACK IS NO LONGER MY GOLF HERO, AND I AM LEFT WONDERING, WHAT THE HELL HAS GOT INTO JACK NICKLAUS.
@Chris B YES, I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING CHRIS, JACK COULD VERYWELL BE A GREAT PERSON TOO, TO A LOT OF PEOPLE HE PROBABLY IS, ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT IN MY EYES, JACK HAS BECOME NON CONSEQUENCIAL, WHERE THE HELL DID I LEARN A BIG WORD LIKE THAT?.
Bring the ball back. The longest hitters will still be the longest hitters. The average clubhead speed on the Tour back in the 80s when Dr Ralph Mann did his research on the Tour players was 117 mph. That probably would net around 265-270 yards. Now the courses are so fast (part of the problem) and more so having the same clubhead speed now gets the ball out there 300+. So driver tech and ball construction have given guys an extra 30 yards. And it isn't shaft length alone... It is a bunch of stuff but the game is being ruined or at least the courses have to be 7600 yards now to have them play as intended.
I didn't see the distance being THE factor at the Masters this week. The longest guys, including Bryson, are like 15 yards longer etc...and they do clear some bunkers, but they also get into lots of trouble, and it's fun to watch. More trouble around the 290 landing area is all you really need IMO.
15:45 Jack Recalls scoring an 8 on 15 on Sunday at the 1971 Masters to finish T-2 behind Charles Coody, but in the final round broadcast he actually scored a 5 on 15. Here is the broadcast. Sorry to correct you, Jack. You are still the best! ua-cam.com/video/wyWVvpCxvcE/v-deo.html
Great interview. My only knock on Jack was I felt he was intentionally disrespectful in regards to his caddies. Even if true he didn’t have to diminish their role in his accomplishments. Could have given them some credit. I mean you refused to consult a professional caddie but somehow your son was qualified because he could break 80. Weird
@Luis C. What are you talking about? When you talk about valuing ALL human life, does this include 61 million aborted human babies since Roe v. Wade? Oh, and of that number, 59% were innocent African American babies. Is that the kind of ALL life matters that you’re talking about? The cognitive dissonance that emanates from the left is astounding.
Was Jacks #1 fan. Travelled to many tournaments to see him in his prime. Am crushed by his inexplicable public endorsement of Trump. Sad time for Nicklaus fans.
@@ViperJon Funny he never much endorsed anyone before. He looks tired and distracted. Sad ending to great career. Less than half the country are nuts to back the lying Orange headed lunatic.

Used to admire Nicklaus until I discovered he was in love with Trump, makes sense when you saw him with those good old white boys who kept black golfers out of Augusta for so long!
I lost all respect for Jack with his recent endorsement of Trump. I have been a golfer all my life. Golf is a spiritual thing for me. Not a country club guy. One of the difficult things for me to deal with is that virtually all pro golfers are Republicans. Even Tiger. But I still love watching them play. But Jack's recent comments made me sick. To think he would support an immoral person as Trump is disgusting.
Heartening to see golf fans aren't just a bunch of spoiled rich kids--like Jack--ultimately--has always remained. Yeah, it was a crushing disappointment to me.
My God jack can't support a candidate of his choice for fear of hurting little feelings, grow the f up, he's the greatest of all time 18 major wins 19 seconds in majors against guys that had multiple major wins and wasn't in awe of any golfer. Watson player palmer Casper Irwin seve all won many majors and you had many more that were great. Woods had Mickelson vjay els.
Sixteen years ago, at Barbara’s urging, the couple founded the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Barbara serves as chair, cofounder, and tireless ambassador, guiding the foundation in raising more than $100 million over the years to provide care to children in every state and nearly 120 countries. The foundation also supports outpatient and urgent care centers up and down the coast of Florida (including Palm Beach Gardens) and a children’s hospital at Jupiter Medical Center (the De George Pediatric Unit). “This is Barbara’s vision, but it has changed my life,” Jack says. “Charity in golf always meant a game to raise money, but now it has become more personal. I’ve gotten close to some of the kids and stay in touch. It’s very rewarding.” Helping out kids in need. That’s enough for me. Generosity and compassion for very sick kids.... helping many to have a chance to live. Enough said..... at least for me and millions of people on both sides of the isle.
I have never liked Nicklaus . He said something about 30years ago that I have never forgot...he said the average golfer should just be happy with shooting his 90 and quit worrying about improving his score. I didn't like him from that day to know. I think he is a smug ass....of course my opinion.
@@jonm6244 Of course he can. And there is no question about his knowledge of golf, or his integrity on the course. But when he chose to enter politics, he entered a game with which he was not familiar. Very different rules.
@@nicholasschroeder3678 Well said Nicholas. Jack is a great golfer but a horrible judge of character. The fact his endorsement for don-the-con sums up his mental faculty.

This interviewer is tremendous . Thank you for your preparation. Every question about who was leading after three rounds this guy knew it.
Please lord take extra good care of this gentleman, Jack is so special.
I love Jack! He is and always will be a Legend!!
One look in his eyes reveals that the fire of a fierce competitor is still there. He was and is a gentleman both in victory and defeat.
His defeat was backing the Orange headed lying loser of a golf cheat ! Sad day !
True that. Gary Player calls him the best loser in golf. Never took his losses personally and had a big enough heart to compliment his opponents.
It blows my mind that he still knows exactly what a competitor shot in a tournament that happened 60 years ago.

Amazing how sharp he is, remembering details he probably hasn't thought about in years. Plus no pretense, no false humility and completely authentic.
Fascinating interview. Loved the part about learning how to play golf yourself.
One of the best Jack interviews I have ever seen.. Great job guys.
This is one of the best interviews..
I rank it with Venturi's Hogan interview...which to me is the best....
