Haleakala Hike with kids

We did Switchbacks, and with plenty of prep and provisions, we had a great day!
The kids did an amazing job. It took us about 3 hours each way with plenty of snacks and water breaks along the way. We'd planned to meet friends at the bottom who had secured camping reservations, but Holua was dry (making staying in the crater very dangerous. You need plenty of water!) So we had a picnic at the bottom and then headed back up.
Upon arrival at the top, we met some people looking for family members that had come in from Sliding Sands, and were making the full loop. They were tourists who had not done this hike before and only had one water each! We advised them to tell the rangers since it had already been 8+ hours.
