A Very Quiet Disassembly of the Pixel 4a

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Our office is pretty quiet these days with most people working from home. We took advantage of the stillness to record a very quiet disassembly of Google’s new Pixel 4a. Our teardown engineers are hard at work on the full teardown but, in the meantime, put on your headphones and relax to the sights and sounds of this disassembly.
Full Teardown coming soon at iFixit.com!
You don’t need much to take apart the Pixel 4a-in fact, our Essential Electronics Toolkit has pretty much everything you’ll need.

Wow, you can almost hear the warranty being voided as soon as the battery was exposed enough to be possible to replace.
i swear that became illegal
Warranty-voiding sounds always give me ASMR goosebumps
They wouldn't even noticed it was opened.
I didn’t know i needed this
We didn't know either
Same
Likewise 😂
@@iFixitYourself DOES IT HAVE PIXEL NEURAL CORE?
@@mafiaboy011 no
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ATTEMPTING DISASSEMBLY: If you use this video as a guide (like the company says you should) PLEASE be very careful with the little blue prying tools when prying the screen off at THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the phone. In fact, just stay away from that part of the phone when opening the screen. The small blue picks will sever the screen cable, which is looped right next to the screen joint. You'll completely hose your screen and need a new one. Learn from my mistakes. Now I'm out $120 for a new screen...neat.
@iFixit really needs to be extremely clear about this if this is intended to be a helpful video
Indeed, the screen on pixel 4a is very fragile, chances that it will break are very high
Very good point, be careful at the bottom right corner, do not pry there
avoid bottom right corner. will keep that in mind. thanks!
I started watching this and thought, "wow it's so quiet. I can't hear anything." My volume was off -.-
The format is neat but for this device, it would've been more beneficial to hear some explanation especially getting the back plate off when we can't see what you're disconnecting with the camera.
David Jung the mother board slides out from the back plate read the text on the screen
@@Warman-do8td Again, the format is neat and the text helped but little more thorough explanation on how finicky it is and what to be careful about would've been nicer, in my opinion.
@@DavidJung03 yeah but don't worry they said they are still working on the full teardown. and they only made this cuz there were quiet In the studio for one and wanted to use that
Go to the website
ABSOLUTELY
is this supposed to be "unintentional asmr"?
It's not unintentional
The surround sound is lit though.
@@dparag14 that's stereo, not surround sound.
if the phone is plastic, and not IP rated, the whole plastic back should just pop out, and then screen should be unscrewed, like in old times
Phone companies do not want their phones to be used for many years.
@@Sujeesh_Bhosri uh what yes they do. Phones back then were horrendous. Slow and easy to break. Now you can get a decent phone for 150 euro and keep it for 3+ years or 4 before it might become too outdated
@@LucianGarz-x9q What happens when the battery no longer holds a charge for more than about 4-6 hours of normal use? And you must practically destroy the phone to replace the battery?
@@olo-burrows what?
@@LucianGarz-x9q 3 to 4 years LMAO until the battery breaks 2 years in then they stop receiving updates
That is absurd. When cell phone makers go out of there way to make it as difficult as possible to replace the battery, they should be forced to provide at minimum, 1 free battery replacement.
You have definitely designed the ifixit pro tech toolkit to sound satisfying so only makes sense to have a video like this
Totally agree
Working as a phone-repairman I'm very happy to see how WELL this phone is built. And I've changed screens on google pixel xA before and they are so refreshingly easy to fix. Well done google!
Easy to replace, but not very easy to dissemble this phone without the risk of breaking the screen, very fragile screens on pixel 4a
They make phones way too difficult to just replace a battery. The most needed repair...
You're not wrong
At least the screen is easy to repair
@@lukasderstecher4582 true! Def a plus
Exactly. Back in the days we can choose between removable batteries or waterproof smartphones, but today we don't have neither of those. Why ?
For some screen is considered the most common repair.
Wow. Whoever designs any electronic internal parts are just admirable.
I wish I knew about this channel before I took apart my beloved note 4.
Hey! You missed out on the pulltabs of the battery adhesive! You can access them from the other side of the frame, just under two little black stickers. No solvent needed. ☺️
Apple: We hate people trying to repair our phones.
Google: Hold my Pixel 4a
0:31 "It doesn't even take much heat to separate the display from the phone's body". I didn't see you use any heat at all. Is there a longer video somewhere?
Yeah, this one seems to skip a lot of steps on things.
I cant get my 4a's screen off for the life of me. Heat gun, resting it face down on my 3D printers hot bed, nada.
@@BootyYeeter
I've got mine as hot as I dare and the screen still won't budge.
@@ikonix360 I ended up getting it off, it took some time/heat, I left the phone on when I was warming it up to make sure I wasn't damaging the screen. I ended up going with a think metal pry/cut tool that I had in my tool kit. It was pretty thin and flexible, just worked the corner in there ever so slightly while pulling with the suction cup.
2:43 That shaking is so professional that all the street-side repair shops in China cannot do it...
just trying to force the screw out lol, works most of the time
Loved the left-to-right tweezer tapping.
Awesome video! Thanks iFixit! More please
This is perfect for falling sleep.
Thank you so much for making this. The volume button on mine is broken, so I can only play at full volume. This video was a far more pleasant experience than I was expecting.
just the same for me : volume button broken and they say that screen would be broken too in trying to repair. I am disgusted, it's not honest...
Nothing better than the soothing sound of a phone screen popping off. Puts me right to sleep.
This format is great
This is so satisfying.
By mistake you have written so in place of not
SOURABH ANAND
By mistake you have replied to my comment.
Where's the ASMR in the title?
why is so gratifying se all this teardown videos.
My wife just asked why I was being so quiet. I told her I was watching a very quiet teardown video. She told me I'm weird. I told her that's NOT fake news! Oh...yeah......GREAT VIDEO! Enjoyed it.
Nice unboxing
We need more of this
1 Million thumps up for this Disassembly since people don't need to see your face but the phone!
I just want know that why this channel is so underrated with this level of quality content, i checked this channel is on youtube since 2006, someone please let me know.
They are commerically selling their disassembly kits and that is the main part of their business. This youtube channel is like an advertisment to them. So they don't focus on this channel much.
This teardown made about as much noise as the 4a made in the news.
Thanks for the raw audio and no music
This is the best ASMR I've ever watched that wasn't titled as being ASMR
Great format, l hope to see it again
I have one of these coming in the mail which made this so satisfying to watch!
An asmr video at its finest.
This is ASMR perfection! we need more of this like of yesterday! Tech nerds need this kind of vids!
The video just reaffirms time and again how much I enjoy the quiet for real.
PS: This is an Indian unit it looks like from the BIS certification on the battery! Hmm
Is the 4a launched in India?
How much heat has to be applied to get the screen to loosen up?
I've heated the screen as hot as I dare get it and even used the suction cup and other proper tools.
It won't budge period.
At 1:28, I realized my headphone was on the opposite way.
Thank you, iFixit
How precisely with utmost care you tear down the tiny electronic components, modules, FFC/FFP ribbon cables!
I was forced to change my ear speaker.
That you have to be really careful with the screen is really no joke. I have already had to open many of my smartphones, this is the first time that a screen broke. Although you can obviously see nothing on the display. Very sad :(
I agree. Very very sad. 😢
I really like the type of video. No babbling, no annoying music! But why the hell is he over turning all the screws? He turns them loose and then keeps on turning! He must have heard that!? Am I really the only one who notices that?
This is so satisfying. I leave it on as my study background music.
Any sign of waterproofing?
Not likely no IP rating on 4a however it can survive a few splash of water or rain as long it lands on the screen and not in any ports
@@BlackopsUSN every phone can do that.
@@scaramouche768 yeah
@Vyacheslav V. there is adhesive around the screen and a rubber ring around the sim tray however there does not appear to be any near the charge port the rubber ring should prevent water drops however any drops entered through the 3.5 jack or charge can potentially damage the circuit
Cheap realme phones have better water protection than this. For this price it should have been water resistant
Way better than all the other asmr videos.
Omg it was perfect I loved the new style do it more please
This is oddly soothing.
iFixit, more like iBreakIt
Then i-Fixit !
When will the replacement screen be available for purchase?
Question, can the screen be re-heated and placed back on when reassembling the phone? Is there an adhesive kit you can buy to install when reassembling? Thanks in advance
If you're lucky not to break the screen, its very easy to place back with adhesive glue
Love your Quiet series
The time taken disassembled ?
it and how we can understand whether it disassembled or not , please reply
I have just got the pixel 4a and i am puzzled as to why there is 2 speaker slots at the bottom of the phone but there is only 1 speaker at the bottom.
Loved this video concept, but would appreciate a proper noise gate? The background noise kept fluctuating
Any thermal paste??or vapour champer or graphite layer??
10/10 would listen to tech asmr again, please do more of this
Pixel 4a ASMR. Just what I needed to buy it. 😆
It’s so silent... I was about to fall asleep 😴
People with Sleep disorders should definitely watch this!!! 😛
It's ridiculous that you have to go through all that just to replace the battery, the phone isn't even water resistant. This should of had a removable back cover so the battery can easily be replaced, same can be said for a lot of other phones.
Definitely need more of such 'Very Quiet' disassembly videos. Very satisfying!!
Love the ASMR quality! Do more quiet ones!
Did they forget to put the repairability score?
Overturning the screws gives me more anxiety than this video released 😭
what is the alcohol that you've used in the video by the way and where can I buy the battery?
I like this format of a video.
well please continue this series
All that unscrewing beyond necessity goes me nuts...
I just swapped the battery on my Pixel 4a with the ifixit kit. Worked great, only took about 50 minutes.
Is the battery good?
@@Kevn37 I think the new battery is fine, same as new Pixel 4a, but I only get 2-3 hours of SOT, so at some point I sold the Pixel 4a and got a Nothing Phone 2 which gets over 12 hours of SOT.
I would've rather heard someone scream bloody murder will taking the phone apart then someone clipping the pliers, and strumming the ribbon.
Love the ASMR, do produce more video like this please
ASMR On point!
I have a pixel 4a with a broken screen (glass has separated from the silver backing). The phone does not power up and the PC does not beep when connected to the PC. I looked at the board by the headphone and the water damage sticker is still white. Does the phone do not power on when the screen is broken? Or is it something else? Thanks.
I mean... I knew that i like ASMR but i did not know that Tech-ASMR would be a thing.
Great video guys
Is the screw driver caming to create that noise while unscrewing?
loveedd this type of videos appreciate more
Please make more videos like this !
A very compact phone with little to no empty space left inside and that's a good thing
Lots of people complain about case squeaking issue on this model -- as you have arleady disassembled it, mabye you could give some video advice how to fix the issue ;) I guess many users, for sure me, would love it.
Thanks for the video, either way might be useful! :)
That was so satisfying to watch!
This is basically Jerry rig everything without Zack voice and “ scratches at lvl6 with deeper grooves at lvl 7 “
Did the screen survive the teardown? JerryRigEverything showed that the glass is super fragile
OMGGG. That is the best ASMR . So satisfying and relaxing 😌. 💓
Had to watch it more than once :P
Can u do a drop test video i kuat want to see how much its gg3 is durable
I want every video like this
Silent and clean ❤️
Would it be possible to add a thin wireless charging thing to the 4a? I've seen it done with other phones. TIA
Well looking at the middle frame design, it might be possible, but why bother really. Wireless charging isn't THAT good either.
3xl here and I basically used wireless charging only once to show it off and that's it
I used to have wireless charging on my Lumia 810, or something like that, can't even remember anymore. Anyways, it was mostly worthless. Slower than normal charging and got quite hot even idle. Wireless charging honestly is just wasteful. Lots of losses.
Hello, what kind of liquid was added when removing the battery? thx
Just the usual alcohol, isopropyl alcohol
Hey @iFixit is it possible to compare Google's vibration motor with Apple's taptic engine someday? Would be helpful for some
Curious to know what if pixel start using modern camera module ...what samsung galaxy note 20 has used🙄
What is the thing that dispensed alcohol with a needle called?
iFix does a super quiet teardown
My laptop: Haha fans go brrrrrrr
My bluetooth headphones: White noise goes brrrr
When you find out the pixel 4a had adhesive strips for the battery and you didn't need to use alcohol because it wasn't glued in like other Android manufacturers: *Bruh...*
Xiaomi too
Love how Google makes a cheap phone feel so premium and have almost all the features of a flagship device
Always very interesting, thanks.
Does it have any water resistant rubber rings..?
Unboxing + a tear down now that a good video
I loved it! To the point. The grinding of the screw driver unscrewing the screws was a great touch!
Here's a change! Do one off the guides to a beat ;-}
Cell phone deconstruction ASMR *chef’s kiss*
Hi iFixit. I really appreciate your earbuds teardowns cuz no-one else does them. Can you make a OnePlus Buds one. Cuz I can't really tell how repairable they are.
This guy can repair/replace the battery, screen in your phone in under 5 minutes
