To anyone trying to replace their battery. Do not pull the screen while removing the adhesive. The screen is WAAYY more fragile than it seems. I ended up breaking my phone. I don't think there's anything wrong with the video, in fact I really appreciate content like this as it helps DIY projects (really, thank you OP). But just be mindful if you will be trying this. I didn't even realize I broke the screen, I was not putting that much force pulling the suction cup on the screen. I only realized it broke because I accidentally powered on the device and the screen showed some pixel soup and then went black. Tried to save money and ended up getting an accidental phone upgrade.
Thank you for the video, followed in closely and replaced the battery almost flawlessly. I managed to rip the connector from the fingerprint scanner -> which was already failing in 50% of cases anyhow, so not a major issue. Phone works perfectly, good video!

Ahhh damn i ripped the fingerprint sensor.. such a small cable :(( The screen turns on but just a light green.. is it because i took out the finger print sensor out?
Something went completely wrong, if it's this complicated to replace a simple battery. Greedy not eco-friendly Tech companies want you to just buy a new one.😢
It's not only that but time consuming. Imagine you would have to remove your suspension from the car every time you want to replace a tire. That's how this feels.
Did the board bracket cover part of the fingerprint sensor cable? In the beginning that cable was above the bracket, and at the end under. Maybe it doesnt matter?
I cracked the Fingerprint cable so i removed the plug before reassembling. Now the screen wont turn on. When connecting a charger it vibrates so something is alive... Did i kill the Screen too or does it have to do with the Fingerprint Module? Please help! My wife will kill me 😅
My battery in my pixel 4a is swollen which made the screen curve a little bit. Does that make it harder to replace the battery (more specifically does it make taking of the screen harder)
First, if your battery is swollen please change it soon. You are saying curve from the center? Anyways, You will have difficulties removing the screen because you cannot heat the screen edges to loosen the lcd frame glue.I mean applying heat has to be very careful. Seeking a technician will be ideal
Worked fine for me. Took a lot of patience reheating my phone, apply suction pressure and repeated this 10 times. Used my nails to pry open near the charger the plastic layer. Also be very careful with the battery adhesive it tears VERY easily. Unfortunately it teared on me and had to use a playing card with alcohol to slowly remove the adhesive.
Thqnks for your video who inspired me to replqce the bqttery of my phone. I have replace the battery (the old one was bumped) and take time to clean the rubber on the screen and casing. Just before glueing the screen I tried to turn on the phone. Unofrtunatelly the screen does not turn on... The vibrator is turning ON 1sec when I push the ON button. After that, it is only "100ms" turn ON. The phone is properly charging (I use a battery bank to charge it, and it is dropping power on the phone). I have try to unscrew/rescrew everything and disconnect the batterry too. Do you have any idea what can I do ? During the rubber cleaning, I heard a very smal crack of the screen ( on a very small corner) on the inner glass (not the external glass), But look nothing broken from visual inspection. Thank you for your help.
First thing you should check the connections are fine. Normally you should not install the screen before making sure it works. Once you are sure, then apply the glue and can close the device. If you feel the battery drains maybe the battery is bad too. There are many bad ones in the market. As you say the screen can be bad too, try to connect the phone to a computer. You can see how it goes, but again if there is a lock then you will have an issue.most likely you need to check with a new screen

Great video. However when I re-constructed the phone and tried to turn it on, the screen just doesn't work. The phone makes sounds and vibrates, but the screen is just off, no color, while connected to the phone. Any help?
Hello. I have a question. I need to replace the battery in my Pixel 4a, but I have a crack in the glass that runs horizontally across the entire display. The display itself is not damaged, but the glass is. What do you think is the likelihood of damaging the display when replacing the battery? Is it worth it or is it better to just change the phone?
Well it is going to be a tough job to hold the screen intact. But there is a possibility too. Maybe you can sell your phone for parts and buy a new one too.
So the reason why you have to remove the entire screen is to remove the sticky tape? If I get you right, you Could do it w/o removing the screen, if you're patient and careful, you should be able to get the battery off with the tape still on
@@DIYGeardo Right, it seems the back cover is screwed to the mainboard from the front side, which means even to remove the backcover you have to remove the screen. Why would one design it that way -. -

Hi Geardo, To remove the screen, I need to heat the glue. What temperature do I need to achieve and for how long? I have a heat gun that can produce far higher temperatures than would be healthy for the phone and I have a meat thermometer to measure the temperature. So, I believe I can generate any temperature, but I need to know how long. I have had no success heating to 190 F for three minutes, but I am not confident I should go either hotter or longer.
