- Its official! Grazing 2023 is OVER!!
In this one we get the beef bus back out, head to Thornton and bring the last of the cattle home for the winter!
I get beat in a foot race, slip over, chase a chicken, rip my leggings and much more...
I hope you enjoy it!
The farmer that grazes sheep on my mother in laws place once arrived having driven 26 miles and over the Erskine Bridge to find a chicken sat on the trailer draw bar , unharmed. Caught up and went back in the tractor cab. 😊
Oh that’s brilliant 😂 I only heard it because I was filming. Arguably it would have been more entertaining if I’d have found it when we got there 😂
That is some trailer, just the job for your set up and handy with the hydraulic ramp with spare wheel attached.
Wouldn’t be without it. Had its since I was in primary school and it’s one of the best things we own!
Hi James Nice one Have a good weekend thanks again
Cheers Darran 👍
Great video ,the cows look great
Thanks Sara, they’ve done well this year.
Awesome 😊
Thanks Ross 👍
Quick question James, if you were starting fresh with sucklers, would you go for stabilisers ?, if not which breed would you go with ??
Stabilisers or salers, easy calving hardy cows.
Oh 100% Stephen! They have proven to be amazing cows for the system I want to run. At the end of the day you need to find a cow to fit your system, not a system to fit your cows. 🐮
If stabilisers didn’t exist I would be tossing up between something like a saler which are notoriously easy calving but a bigger cow or id look at something like an Angus which probably aren’t quite as easy calving nowadays but do fantastically well from grass. With the stabilisers, I feel like we get the best of both worlds and a heap of data to back them up. 👍
nice video james
Cheers Alejandro 👍
So which got in the trailer first was it the chicken or the egg?
That will forever be the mystery 🥚 🐓
Hi James. How are your results with artificial insemination?
Hey Dirk, we haven’t PD’d the cattle yet but it will happen in the next couple of weeks. 1st service I didn’t get on too great and had about 12 repeat. Felt that the synchronising of the cattle didn’t produce the same kind of heat as a natural one does. That coupled with it being my first time 🤷♂️ Felt a lot more confident about the repeats though. 👍
