My first responsibility in the FD was to work the radio room. I was 17, and had to learn every procedure there was. It's a very important job; especially before computers when dispatchers kept everything in their head. Congratulations to this man for his devotion to the fire service and I wish him a happy and healthy retirement. Eric in Chicago.
That’s great, all the recognition from companies from all over the city. The send off by members of the emerald society pipe band was the icing on the cake.
I have been listening to you for well over 20 years, now i'm in florida. i called you on your last day and bid you farewell. COME TO FLORIDA, YOUR CONDO ON THE BEACH IS READY
Not an easy job, takes a speacial person. This gentleman clearly had what it took. To do that job that long would drive most of the edge. So many lives in his hands is a tremendous responsibility.
That's really amazing. I've been listening to San Jose CA Fire Dept. on the scanner for decades, and I've never heard any of the Dispatcher around that long. I think 20 years was the most.

I feel ya on that one. I would pinch hit in dispatch during our "war years" in the 80's. It was card files, note pads and your memory.
This firefighter worked as dispatcher in the 70's and 80's which are known as the "war years" for the amount of fires in old structures
He wasn't a Firefighter.. He was Fire Patrol then a Fire Alarm Dispatcher

The term is 'K', that identifies the end of the transmission and expects a reply.
