Before I bought this pedal I could barely play, but NOW!!... I can shred Paganini's suites with ease!

Yngwie has used a DOD 250 since the early days and this is a version of that. The MXR Distortion Plus is very similar.

My pedal board has the SD-1 and the YJM 308 and the most significant different between them is when you do bends on the YJM308 it just wails. It makes vibrato sound a lot more dynamic as well. I haven't tried the Fender or MXR but if I can find one at a guitar store I'll definitely see if it's got the stuff.

Pedal looks excellent for what it is and worth it if you're a fan. Use it, if it works for you, great. If it doesn't, sell it.
I like my yellow MXR dist+, with my SD-1 (any tube screamer copy will work) in front of it, going into a clean amp, and there's the tone.

As far as I know, Yngwie runs his Plexis on the bright channel, with all knobs on 10, except bass which is on zero. I believe he ran the DOD250 with both knobs on max. The DOD250 has rather low gain, so with the low-output pickups, the tone is cleaner than you might expect. In addition, Ynwie has an extremely light touch on the strings. Playing at extremely high volume provides the sustain.
My favorite part of Yngwie's tone is in the rhythm tone. The riffs have so much attack and character, far away from dull modern high-gain amps with sterile high-output humbuckers.
To get closer to Yngwie tone with this pedal, I'd try Level all the way up and Gain rather low, having it push a cranked Plexi style amp (or simulation).
Saw him live this summer. The tone's still there, but that part about good songs - no more. He played just fragments of songs followed by endless solos.

Yng recently said he uses "Nuclear" levels of distortion, so I think this should certainly get you into that territory in front of a cranked amplifier. At that point, a noise gate is perhaps mandatory ^^

Awesome demo! I’ve been trying to run this with my Victory Kraken V4 amp and it’s only useable when I have the gain super low on channel 1 as you demonstrated with the Plex. Definitely not a boost to tighten up a distorted high gain amp imo. Cheers!

“One trick pony” nails it! I bought this pedal because I have always liked YJM tones. I do not want to get his exact tone. I am excited to get the pedal (back ordered). I wasn’t fast enough to get it 🤦🏻‍♂️ . I am not a YJM shredder, this pedal should get me what I want.

I bought a red to play and a yellow to keep as a collection thing to go on the wall with my DOD YJM308 and YJM Strat. Sounds great, but definitely 100% needs a noise gate, as the circuit is still, in 2024, EXTREMELY noisy

I think you did it wrong. 1st You need to push Gain and Level to max on the pedal then try adjust the amps. This pedals screams but they start cut this annoyin bas after 90% on settings.
The best would be to Get Pedal+ Noise gate and then try. 16:27 You almost got there.
Can you try make a short later with Lion and MXR maxed out?

I wish I could've afford this one, I bought The Randy Rhoads version with the intention of giving it away to one of my viewers knowing they were going to be on Reverb for $499-$799 U.S. I had wish I bought 2 of the Randy's so I could have one.

The J is a pisstake of americans who add a middle initial to their name. Like Homer J Simpson. It does stand for Johan in this case but it’s not as if without it he’d be confused for all the other Yngwie Malmsteens running around.

Oh, growing up in the 80s as a guitar player, and listening to heavy metal and classical music, Malmsteen was unique and fabulous. The opposite of what I saw when watching a live concert. One of the worst performances, music-wise, I ever watched. Wanking at the speed of light. What really annoyed me then was that Malmsteen has songs - because he wrote songs with great (GREAT!) singers. Cheers!
