Not sure if you’ve previously stated but this Smiths brand from timefactors have no affiliation with Smiths the original brand. It’s borderline plagiarism.
As a result of this video, I'm now the proud owner of a Smiths PRS29 air ministry sitting on an antique bonklip bracelet. It took a while to acquire a lot of searching, but after the unbearable wait for its delivery, my wife's reaction summed it perfectly when I opened the box. "Now that is a handsome chap, can you get rid of that awful gshock " Thankyou for ending my search
Absolutely loving those heat blued ‘spade’ hands on the PRS29-AM ‘Air Ministry’! Great value watches from a company that seems to be producing some really interesting pieces at the moment. A great video as always my friend. Here’s to you endorsing Smiths timepieces from now on! ✊
The blue hands are reason enough to own the piece. Now I wake up saying "I have a want to wear blue hands today" ;) I hope you've been enjoying the sun this week brotha!
Fantastic video👍 I recently purchased a Stowa Marine 36 Manual - and I absolutely love it! Elegant, functional and comfy. Seems that the straps becomes more important on these simplistic small watches, “taking up more real estate” on the wrist.
Spectacular watch and totally appreciate your from the heart perspective as to why it means so much to you. The Air Ministry watch represents a time when life was much simpler. It serves its purpose exquisitely.
Thank you Reed. It's always nice to attack the angle a bit differently than the "standard" review method out there ;) They really do manage to evoke a feeling which is quite spectacular!
Yet another amazing video IDGuy! I love your in depth reviews of military style watches, they are by far the best on UA-cam. These Smiths watches are all fantastic looking pieces, but the blues hands of the Air Ministry model just set it apart from the others. Thanks as always for the great video.
A little bit of history goes a long way ;) It was amazing to find the original Omega that inspired this piece too! A "1956 6b:159" - check it out on google. Fascinating stuff. Thanks a million for the comment, Blueshirt! I hope you're having tremendous weather where you are
Hottest day of the year so far, glass of Rosé wine in a shaded part of the garden, another great IDGuy video. Sometimes Redundancy doesn’t feel that bad at all (as long as the down time is not that long) 😁
One of the most romantic and honest review I've ever seen. Congrats. I'm not decided yet between the longine heritage military and this smiths (not the same budget but emotions don't come with coins). And I think I star to know now. Thank you Buddy!
Although it was built for a different purpose, I think the watch straddles that line between functional and dressy very well. Few microbrands excite me, but Ed and his Smiths watches are very appealing to me. Also one of the few brands that actually seem to understand what "homage" means, instead of just blatantly copying designs. Another job well done Mr. IDGuy, can't wait to hear about the W10! - Han
Thanks a million for following! We try and mix and mash all sorts of ideas here, from history, to design development... the rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper ;)
Fantastic video. I like to wear smaller watches now. You do get use to them and vintage watches add that special feeling. Strange how you change you perspective on style and fashion. Interesting when you watch old movies and see those small watches on men’s wrists it does not look weird, they seem to balance the overall look imo. Now when I see huge dress watches now they , to me, look odd.
Oh, I'd love to get my hands on an original. And I found the exact model that the Air Ministry used as a template - Google: Omega 1956 "6B/159". Thanks for the comment Paolo!
@@ID-Guy I prefer the 33mm case model like mine, fell perfect for my skinny wrist and more "historical correct" with more "vintage vibe"....at the end of the day all this passion is 90% emotional things ....you agree with me?
Smith's watches are going great. Many new things will come out. Btw, I think Ed might start using a new automatic Ronda movement as it is going to come out soon. It is quite a reliable movement after it was tried on a timegrapher. I also saw him trying to make a trench watch with Omega vintage Seamaster 300 dial. However, I find them polarizing. Also, the CEO of Hamilton Sylvain Dolla who is one of the best CEOs of the Swatch group company IMO will be moving to Longines. The only brand that was able to actually make an amazing reissue AND great modern design in the lower end Swatch group hierarchy. He also always listen to the fans and critics. I think Longines will be getting amazing modern pieces AND amazing reissue pieces soon.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing that information. Smiths is indeed hitting its stride and providing good value, the trick is trying to acquire one.... ⌚👍

WOW, the Tessuflex bracelet changes the look so dramatically. I am not a pilot/field watch kinda guy. I am a bracelet guy. That combination is going to haunt me to consider getting one. Great video, as always.
A very discreet yet handsome watch, the disingenuous is simple and certainly unfussy and its all business. I love the history behind this and i am sure it is far more affordable than the Longines heritage military. Thank you for this wonderful review. I like the canvas strap as i think it goes well with the watch
Great now you have me lusting after yet another watch. Very nice watch. My Breitling Transocean Ocean 1915 shares some of the design features but they get a bit lost because it's so big. It was supposedly an homage to there premiere line out just after the war.
Field or Military watches with their simplistic and tool design, can be worn in just about situation from jeans & a t-shirt to a suit. They are designed to stay out of the way until you need them. Their dials are simplistic in design and with a quick glance, you have the time. Watches like the Rolex Explorer and the Omega Railmaster & Seamaster are hidden masterpieces. You can’t go wrong with a field watch even as a one watch collection. An added benefit to Military or Field/Pilots watches is you can dress them up or down with a simple swap of the strap to compliment your wardrobe from casual to wearing a suit & tie.
Shorten the lug-to-lug by 3mm, add "Great Britain" to the bottom of the dial, change the boxed sapphire crystal to a domed sapphire crystal, and then change the font of the numerals to something more period correct (see the Timor Heritage Field watch as an example). Do all of those simple things and you'd have the most perfect watch currently being produced.
I would be curious to know what the RAF pilots thought at the time of 32mm pilots watches, I cant help but think they may have been more challenging to use than the giant flieger watches the other side had
Very good question! Really, I reckon everyone was so accustomed to smaller watches back then (like we are with 40mm pieces today) - maybe they just grimaced and bared it? Same to Vietnam pilots with watches like 35mm Glycine Airman's (men?). Would be nice to hear the testimonials and thanks for the comment!
why the small size? because they use the watch not only in flight but also on the ground. look at how the RAF pilots were dressed in 1935 ... jacket and tie! and they flew in the same way
ID Guy thank you for your review - I appreciate your candid and dertailed description of this watch, and its details. BTW can you tell me what the vintage mesh bracelet was that you added to the PRS-29AM? Thank you.
Good work on the video, very enjoyable. I didn’t wear my AM much after I bought it, however it has steadily grown on me and it’s now one of my favourites. What are your thoughts on the numeral font? I think something with a little bit more old fashioned flair, like the Omega 6B/159 this is based on, would have been good. Reading the development process on the TZUK forum, I think Eddie wasn’t able to locate the particular one he wanted. Would you mind sharing what that olive green strap is? It looks like a Watchgecko but they don’t have it in 18mm.

Just got mine ordered! By the time I filled out the payment info and submitted everything I clicked continue shopping and everything was sold out. Less than 4 min😳
These are great watches, i love my PRS29. The only thing that I would change is the sapphire crystal or the way it was manufactured. I suppose this is more visible on the black PRS29 but there is some sort of a smoky halo ring effect much like the Omega Speedmaster with sapphire crystal. This ring is not present on the hesalite version of the watch. However I don’t know if it is possible to manufacture a domed sapphire crystal without this smoky ring. .
