Definitely do National Parks! We are 12 lessons into it and it is our FAVORITE unit ever (and we’ve done a ton of them!). If I could do this unit over I would schedule 2 days per lesson because my kids are rabbit trailing all day on this one. The character building in each lesson is perfectly tied into the story and prompted deeper reflection.
I love unit studies! Gather Round Homeschool especially totally changed the way I do school. The time spent together learning and just being together with three kids has made us so much closer. ❤ I'll have to look into TGTB unit studies too.
Hi Jamie! I am also excited to do the National Park unit study. Glacier has been on my list for years as well and we are headed there this month! 🤗 Hope this school year brings so many wonderful memories for you and your family.❤
We were just in Glacier as a family and it was so wonderful! I have been there quite a few times now as my parents started taking us when I was about 12 and I have tried to go back at least every 5 to 8 years. A lot has changed there as far as getting in but if you research and plan well you can make your trip just fine. We stayed in Many Glacier this year and hiked to Ptarmigan Tunnel, Swift Current Pass, Grinnell Glacier, Walk of the Cedars and we also drove to Two Medicine and walked around the lake. We have stayed in Apgar, Two Medicine and Many Glacier campgrounds and they are all nice. Apgar and Two Medicine have no showers so you either drive to a KOA or bathe in the lakes. They are COLD but we have done it😁. I love that you are dreaming about a trip to end your school year. Be aware that if you go in early or even mid June some trails and Going To The Sun Road can sometimes be closed because of snow.
We did Notgrass World History for my 9th grader, and From Adam to Us for my 7th grader. We only lasted for 3 months and then switched everything to GR. They are both still using the literature books from Notgrass, but not the big text books. We are on lesson 15 of Careers and Trades (our very first GR unit ever!).
So thankful to find you! I am planning to start homeschooling this year. I been looking for someone who shares about homeschooling boys! If you could go back to preschool and 1st grade. Which curriculum would you use hands down?
We use Notgrass but also add in mini unit studies to expand on and really have some fun with the people/subject matter we really like that goes along with what we are studying in Notgrass. We also do most of the literature with it with some modifying.
How do you incorperate LA and Math into The Good and The Beautiful's Unit Studies or do you? I love their units and have several. I want to do do an all in one type of cirriculum. So trying to figure out how to pull LA lessons and Math into our units. I've never tried Gather Round, love the idea of it, but we don't have a decent printer.
Glacier National Park is beautiful. I took a family trip as a kid there during the summer and we were able to stand on a glacier and have a snowball fight.

We are doing Exploring America this year. What unit studies did you add?

Sounds like a fun year 🎉
Are you still on/doing made 2 homeschool?
I was going to ask the same question.

That is amazing!😍
Doing Notgrass this year for middle and high school the books are amazing
That's awesome! Which one did you decide on?
We will be doing Our Star Spangled banner from Notgrass this year.
I'm trying to combine history 2 with Notgrass our star spangled story
Do you have your high schooler do extra readings or writing with gather round units?
Notgrass is one we have never used
Besides math do you add anything else to the unit studies?
Hey friend! Do you mean curriculum wise? Or extras activities, etc?
Curriculum
I would also love to know!
We do add in a few extra things. Some grammar and language for sure!
