Since you play many old games still - if you decide to upgrade, the Xbox One S may be a better option than the new X, since the S remains the one that is the most backwards compatible! The One S can even be found quite cheaply on ebay.

U should pick up RDR (red dead redemption) my favourite 360 game as I grew up. Also, fortnite is a new game sure, but not the only new one. There are some great new games, such as Elden Ring. U should seriously concider buing the PS4 just for that experience alone unless u got a good gaming rig, then ofc just buy it on steam. Also, there is alot of good new games on steam. I recently really liked Core Keeper and other similar ones in the pixel art style, Dave the Diver. Doesnt require a gamning rig and runs well on a moderate system, and really good games. So yeah. New does not always equal bad, although I do agree that recently many game studios have pumped out a bunch of garbage. Im waiting for GTA VI though and a new hit recently that had overwhwlingly good reviews was Black Myth Wukong, kinda like Elden Ring but with Chinese mythology instead of European mytholgy with nights and stuff.

Left 4 dead 2 is one of the greatest zombie games of all time it can be quite scary but its very good. But dead island isnt as scary but its very fun.
