What Really Ministers to Loneliness? - Tim Conway

  • Someone's bodily presence does not necessarily make loneliness go away. Rather it is someone who cares for you, somebody who loves you and invests in your life. Somebody who you know is thinking about you. We as Christians have the privilege to seek to bear one another's burdens and comfort those in loneliness. Yet at the same time we are ultimately to point them to Christ who is the One who has everlasting comfort that no human can offer.

    I prayed that God make me into the man he intends for me to be. Everyone I loved turned on me, my woman, friends, parents etc. It didn't make any sense. 5 years later, still single and I know who my God his, He is worth it all and more.

    I see so many Christians out there who are dealing with loneliness, longing for companionship and it's sad that many fall into desperation, bitterness and eventually blaming God. I've gone through all of the above and still going but this video really helped me to see my loneliness different. I'm very grateful that pastor validates the feelings of suffering because so many Christians videos out there sound dismissive. Here I found home and even through this sometimes overwhelming feelings I see light that God uses this for my purification and sanctification. And it allows for this process to go at a higher pace than it would otherwise. Sometimes I think would I really seek God as I do now (still not as much as I know I should) have I been happily married and had everything else material that I need. Probably not. Loneliness was essentially that which brought me to Christ 2.5 years ago and the process continues. Painful, yes , slow yes but it goes on. How I wish I could be made perfect in an instant but it just doesn't work like that. And I decided to seek God and serve others as I wait instead of dwelling on my feelings. Not easy my any means but only way to grow.
    I pray more lonely people see this video.

    I crave to be alone on the side of a mountain and I mean this literally, my soul cries for it. It hurts my heart how vile humanity has become. I have died to myself and I abide in Christ, I only want to be alone with Jesus, oh to be free of this world to commune constantly with the living God. I need no food or drink other than his word. Praise be to God that through Jesus Christ I walk in the Holy Spirit constantly Hallelujah. There is no loneliness when you walk with Jesus Christ

    This is good, because he's not chastising Christians for feeling lonely. Some ministers humiliate Christians for feeling lonely. As he said, Jesus was lonely even among his disciples. As Christians, we are the solution to loneliness. Yes, Jesus is always with us, but we still feel lonely. We need someone who cares a little bit. It's especially vital for older people. Many retired singles would welcome even being able to listen. We aren't even allowed to listen. That hurts deeply.

      JAMES 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
      That verse may sound a little harsh, but when we consider the life in Christ that we are called to, if we are not living it we WILL feel distant from him; And that only leaves us wide open for Satan's attacks to take us down.
      Believing is just the BEGINNING.
      Jesus said, "Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able." ~ LUKE 13:24
      Abiding in Christ isn't a magic carpet ride......
      We have to KEEP SEEKING after him! LUKE 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
      And then we MUST REMAIN in him. JOHN 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
      5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
      6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
      You have just as much of a chance as anyone. Don't let your flesh rule you!! This is a matter of eternal life or death!! I pray you seek God in turning your heart to him, and that you submit every bit of yourself, and your life to him. Don't allow anything of this world to prevent you from chasing after a life in him. I pray you find grace in your times of need. You cannot get by without studying his word. I hope you have a King James Bible. I have found it to be the living version in comparison to all others I've tried. God bless you in seeking him.

    Honestly, my friends that care for me mostly and invite me for dinner are the non Christians. It's sad and there's no reason. My Christian friends are all married, self sufficient and I haven't been invited even to their homes for afternoon tea. I invite all non-Christians to my home. Christians don't seem to want to get involved. It's a real dilemma.

    I've followed the Lord all my life, and have recently been struggling with this, since it's hard when you help other people and none looks for you when they're fine. At first I ignored this, but it's been starting to be a burden for me. I wish to be closer to God so I can feel His comfort and see His promises fulfilled, but when praying all I feel is silence. I really need your help and pray for me, it really helps, as pastor Tim said. I appreciate it, and will pray for all of you who are in the same spot.

    I thought this was a video about how Jesus felt loneliness. I minister to others and have been alone most of my life. I minister to others so much but even they are not there for me. Whenever I am in need I am accused of being in self pity. This is what is almost unbearable. You yourself say you used to be lonely and now are married and in the same breath say you aren’t doing it. Everybody wants to be a teacher or a singer or whatever. I used to go to church and now that I am old and can’t go to church I don’t even hear from anybody. They are too busy running to church etc. The church keeps them so busy serving the church when a person can’t go they seem to think you deserve to be lonely. The suffering has purpose but very few will do what you say once they are helped. I am divorced and became very spiritual. I only came acrossed men of God that wouldn’t date me because I was divorced or carnal men that demanded sex to date me. So I have lived with great loneliness years alone. We don’t know when the suffering will end. You don’t know what is going to end soon. We have to live moment by moment and be willing to bear our cross. The more a person lives as Jesus commanded the lonelier that person will be. Praise Him until it passes. GBU❤️

    The story of the man who nobody in the church made soup for is my story .. with the exception that unlike him I did make food for others, I visited them, I bought them groceries, I drive them where they needed to go and I called them to see how they were and listened to them when they needed a friend and had nobody. But they were nowhere when I needed a friend, I never asked for anything, only fellowship and a friend who might call me once in a while and go out and have a coffee with , no phone calls no texts, no visits nothing, everything stopped when I was no longer needed. I did not do these things to get anything in return, I did it because I wanted to help those in need and because I love them, but they didn't love me enough, So now as a result I have no friends and I might add these were all people who are Christians, I know that doesn't mean they are perfect, but I don't understand how you could turn your back on someone who was there for you when nobody else was and how you don't have any compassion on people.

      @conartist267 6 років тому +3

      Mandz my dear friend, yeah I understand you. See my comments above. Responsibility can't be taking away from fellow Christians who are in families not to care. The church needs to be more educated about our pain and how easy it is to overlook us. Don't give up on Jesus our lord and our love. There are some that do care but most have let us down. God bless

    • @josedopwell4990
      @josedopwell4990 6 років тому +5

      Mandz, I encourage you not to lose heart nor be bitter. Jesus healed 10 lepers and only one returned to thank him. Do you think the other nine didn't realize they were made whole? God provides for billions of people whether they are thankful or not, whether they obey him or not. Jesus laid down his life knowing full well that the overwhelming majority of people would despise and reject him anyway. And he did this while we were enemies (Romans 5:8-11, Ephesians 2:1-10). God makes it to rain upon the just and the unjust, he is generous to all because he abounds in steadfast love towards all, especially his children (Exodus 34:5-7, Matthew 5:43-48). If we are living on the basis of works we expect payback for the good things we do. If I do you a favor, I want something in return. In fact, I deserve it. This is dangerous thinking because it turns into God owing us something because of good deeds we've done rather than us being saved by his grace (Isaiah 64:6, Ephesians 2:8-9). Jesus commands that we give quietly and that our Father who sees in secret will reward us (Matthew 6:1-4). ALL OF US ARE SELFISH, ALL OF US ARE UNGRATEFUL TAKERS AT SOME TIME. Only the power of the Holy Spirit can bring about the selfless love of God in each one of us. The beauty of the Holy Spirit is that he is our constant companion. If we listen closely he speaks to us, communicating with us on our Heavenly Father's behalf. The Holy Spirit is everything Jesus would be for us if he was physically here. I encourage you to read John chapters 14-16. Jesus does not leave us alone or abandoned. Yes, brothers and sisters will fail us for both legitimate and selfish reasons. And we will also do that to others, by the way. But God's promise is to never fail us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). He wants us to be totally dependent on him rather than leaning on ourselves and/or other people (Proverbs 3:5-8). I encourage you to adopt God's perspective on these matters. Otherwise you will grow weary in welldoing and could become resentful at others, which would actually be a reflection of resentment towards God (Matthew 25:40 and 45). Pray and ask for your Heavenly Father's, Jesus's and the Holy Spirit's attitude towards giving. Act in faith and your Father who sees in SECRET will reward you with joy both now and eternally!!

    • @manzandz
      @manzandz 6 років тому +1

      Jose Dopwell thank you for taking the time to write this to me. I absolutely agree with all that you have said here, some very wise and biblical advice which I do appreciate. I want to clarify that I do these acts of helping others, being kind and loving people for the simple reason that God has changed my heart and I can't help but do those thing, as I said I don't do it because I think I deserve something back or to get someone to like me or be my friend. The thing which I am addressing here and the thing that hurts me most is my feelings of being used and being lonely at times, (and I was having a particularly bad day when I wrote that comment) because the person won't remain in fellowship with me once they are no longer needing my help anymore. And yes absolutely the Holy Spirit reminds me all the time that no matter if that person turns their back on me that nothing I have done is ever a waste, because no matter what the other persons response, God sees all of what I have done and that is really all that matters, and this brings me joy, but I fail to remember that at times of weakness .
      Fellowship is very important and we were not made to be alone and isolated,so whilst I enjoy my time with God it is important to spend time with other Christians. I am blessed to have a few good friends online who I have known for a few years and we are always there for each other praying for each other and encouraging each other, I just don't have any friends nearby me who I can fellowship with in person, it's not quite the same.
      God Bless.

    • @josedopwell4990
      @josedopwell4990 6 років тому +3

      +Mandz, it's interesting that you wrote about not having brethren nearby to fellowship with. I was in the same situation recently. I'd moved to a new city and it took a while to find a church where I was comfortable with the spirit, worship, bible teaching, interaction between brothers and sisters, etc. I earnestly prayed about it because God's word says not to neglect meeting together because it's an amazing opportunity to encourage each other in Christ. Since my natural tendency in the flesh is to remain aloof and separate from others it was crucial for me to find a church. And God has blessed me with one that's walking distance from my apartment. My desire for fellowship lined up with my Heavenly Father's will and he provided for me. Each week has been better and better and I'm starting to develop relationships with other members of the body of Christ. Prior to this I'd stay in touch with other Christians via phone, text, letters, etc. with the occasional church visit mixed in. But nothing matches being in the same room with other committed, spirit-filled believers. It's a reflection of being in heaven in the presence of God. I'll pray that your Heavenly Father provides you with a Christian fellowship to become a part of. He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think!! God bless you, Mandz.

    Loneliness is more than a temporary state for some people. At some point we realize that we have been lonely longer than we think is normal, and there's no sign that it will change. All of the teaching here is good and true, and we should do all of these things because it's the evidence of a fruitful life. But maybe we need some consolation in knowing that even if we continue being alone without understanding the reason, when we've done everything we feel God is asking us to do, we are not worthless and we are not the only ones who are alone. If we knew the millions who experience this same unending trial, we wouldn't have to feel that it's an exclusive and rare problem. I'm talking especially about those who live alone and are lonely. God's word will heal and change you, so don't stop reading daily. But you may still remain in this hard situation and wonder if you're the only one experiencing this. You're not. Ask God to help you change anything that is keeping you isolated. If you're isolated because of a disability, keep praying that fellow Christians will be a part of your life. I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19.......yes indeed i enjoy listening to this dear man of God Pastor Tim Conway and I much pray God's peace and comfort on him and his family each and everyday and that God uses him and his ministry mightily to much glorify and lift high the king of kings and the lord of lords!!!!!! to God Be All The Glory!!!!! Great Things He Hath Done!!!!!! and all hail king Jesus!!!!! the king of kings and the lord of lords!!!!!! however folks these days are getting darker and Christ is coming soon and if you don’t know Christ as your savior then it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! Folks you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! it is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel......John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life! Christ died a horrible criminals death! He was beaten brutally mocked spit upon and endured countless hours of torture pain for all of our sins! Ppl go to hell because they reject that pardon for their sins! And Jesus is saying to them in Matthew 25:41 depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! Hell was only prepared for Satan and his angels! It is not God who threatens anyone it is the craziness of rejecting the free pardon of salvation! It’s like if you’re in court you’ve committed a crime say you murdered someone! Now if you say to that Judge hey I know I’ve done a terrible thing of murdering that person but I hear you’re a good judge and so I know you’ll be fair to me...... the judge is going to reply well yes you’re right about one thing I am a good judge and because I’m a good judge I’m going to see to it that you’re punished and that justice is served! Well then all of a sudden someone you don’t even know comes forward and says you know what I know he’s committed the crime he’s committed and he deserves to go to jail but I really don’t want to see him go to prison so I’ll just go to prison for him so he can go free! So if you accepted that offer you’d be free to leave the courtroom but if you didn’t well you’d be crazy and go to prison yourself! Well that’s exactly how it was 2,000 years ago! He is God in human flesh and he came to this earth lived a perfect sinless life and even though he knew that we had sinned and because of our sins deserved to die miserably but he said no I don’t want to see them suffer so I will go and take their punishment for them! Even though he did absolutely nothing wrong still he chose to take the punishment for our sins so we can be set free from the power bondages and consequences of our disobedience to God! Romans 5:8 says For God commends his love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! 1 John 2:2 says he was made to be the propitiation for our sins! And not just for our sins but the sins of the whole world! 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became Sin for us that we would be made his righteousness! The truth is if you had to get to Heaven by your own effort then you cannot do it! Because Romans 3:10 says there is not one that does good! No Not One! Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord! But the good news is Romans 10:9 If we confess with our mouth and believes in our hearts that Christ died for our sins then was raised from the dead we will be saved! V 10 For it’s with the heart we believe and it’s with the mouth confession is made unto salvation! God gave us 10 commandments to follow and we’ve broken every one of them! And because God is a good God he cannot allow our disobedience to him to go unpunished! Well then like I just mentioned above his son Jesus stepped forward and said no I don’t want to see them punished so I will take their punishment for them! And also like I said he died a terrible substitute criminal’s death for us on a cross so now all we have to do is accept that payment for our sins and we can escape the terrible wrath of God that is to fall on them who do not accept this atonement that was sacrificed for our sins! Praise the lord Romans 10:13 says Whoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved! And 1 Peter 1:4 you’re an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you! Christ clearly said in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but through me! Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no other name given unto Heaven or earth by which we must be saved as there is salvation in no other! Jesus clearly states that there is clearly only one way to Salvation and it’s him that’s it! There is no other way! God Bless everyone who reads!

    isn't the connection with other people kind of an unreal connection tho? doesn't everyone find that Jesus is the only one with whom you can really connect, and trust, and give your heart to? to me, the real question of loneliness is, "why, if He said i'll never forsake you, do i feel lonely?" and if that's the question, then there only seems to be two possible answers, 1 i'm in sin. (not loving others) which separates. or 2 the loneliness is not real, and He is still with me, and i'm still His. if it's #1, He's still there, loving me in discipline. if it's #2, He paid me the compliment of letting me try my own withered legs for a time.
    i don't think that any of us but Jesus have ever been able to honestly ask, "why have you forsaken me?!" nor will we ever be able to. unless on judgement day we find we aren't His after all.
    am i over spiritualizing this?

      Well, if you struggle to hear Tim, who is married, I would encourage you to hear the Apostle Paul, who was single. He said in 1 Corinthians 7:8, "To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am." He found Jesus to be enough (1 Cor. 2:2, Acts 20:25). Obviously if you don't have the "gift of singleness" than trust God to bring you a spouse, but whether we are married or single we do need to be content in Christ.

      If you listen again, you will hear that there IS HELP... help to be content in the LORD. And often it is someone finding that contentment in Christ, that then leads to the Lord giving them a spouse. He so often will teach the believer some deeper lessen before giving them the gift of a spouse. We need to live out Matthew 6:33, seek first the Lord's kingdom and trust him.

      @@illbehonest Listening to this once is enough it’s the same message most other ministries are pushing on the growing number of Christian singles that they don’t know what to do with. Seeking the Lord is fine but the very obvious message of you aren’t good enough for a spouse is outright harmful no matter how sincere the preaching. I’ve grown old single and childless continually hearing one reason after another why at a particular age I should stay single and I realize now only too late that it was never God pushing me to be single it was “well meaning “ preachers. 30 years gone. It grieves me. Those preachers tilled the ground for a bitter heart. As the years went by I watched as folk around me got married, had kids and in general were happy.
      There was always in the recesses of my mind that maybe I was never good enough for a spouse. That maybe I had such a great sin that God abored me by not having a spouse for me. That somehow I needed to be punished.

I only speak up at my age because I’m no longer afraid to say that a particular preacher or church can be wrong and sometimes can lead people in the wrong direction in life with good intentions but it is you who will pay the price for their errors and of course non of these pastors ever take any credit for any harm they may have caused. I think that if we scrutinize what these people say against the Bible we’ll find an awful lot of personal opinions. It is stories like ours that need to be heard by young people in the church so that they don’t make the same mistakes.
