There’s behind the scenes footage, taken literally by Orlando, where you can clearly hear she’s singing live and that there’s no post editing or anything. It’s live, period.
This is definitely love this is exactly how Katy sings it on tour. You can tell it is live because it sounded like there was to much noise in the background so she was struggling a bit with her vocals, so maybe some live vocals were prerecorded. But you can tell this is live because of the natural breathing and motions she made - if this was lip synced I’m pretty sure the vocals would’ve beeen perfect but it sounds like her natural voice. I thought vocally a great performance
The majority of the performance tho is definitely live there is actual footage of her singing while the fireworks go off.

I really loved this performance, her vocals are on point and I love her very unique voice, it's exquisite!
I don’t think it was lip synced, the fireworks can be heard, specially at the end. Plus, I know Katy’s voice, and this sounded like her voice usually sounds live, if it was lip synced, she wouldn’t have done certain things with her voice that she only does live and some parts wouldn’t have had tension or slight issues with pitch. Also, if some parts weren’t live there would’ve been some difference in the volume between the live and pre-recorded vocals. Plus there’s behind the scenes videos recorded by the crew and it sounds 100% live. She was also nervous before the performance, and happy and relieved after, she was proud of herself. Anyways, it was an amazing performance, vocally epic, and I really like how you respectfully talked about lip sync and didn’t trash her for it (even though she didn’t lol).
If katy lips a performance it is so obvious she does it. And that is not the case here

Singing high notes while pregnant may affect the baby since the diaphragm would cause pressure
Great video! brings tears to my eyes watching all the music performances, and probably always will, so much emotion from that day!
Noise - cancelling in-ears would have probably eliminated a lot of that external sound. There are some minor inperfections in those parts - I think they would have sounded more perfect if they were lipsynced

I got to see Katy Perry perform live, front row during her California Dreams tour & it was AMAZING. She ended the night with “Firework” & one of the pyrotechnic indoor “fireworks” shot a spark in my eye. *Still totally worth it!* 👌🏻Lol 😂

It’s out of sync mainly bc of processing and pitch correction. Often times a slight delay is very possible from what you see to what you hear.

Can someone explain what is difference between lip syncing and pre recorded track? Sorry for English it's my third language.
It's basically the same thing. But the difference can be that many artists lip sync to the studio versions of their songs or to the same recording on many different concerts.
With Katy, if she did lip sync here, she did it to a pre recorded track, which means that she recorded this song before specifically for this performance and they played that recording during the performance. So it's basically her live voice but without the possibility of forgetting the lyrics or making other big mistakes.

She always sings to firework with fireworks, she is used to them (not as many fireworks as here) but all her concerts she has fireworks at the end of the performance,

This was live, she sang it how she sings it on tour. There was a video behind the scene that shows her being live + there were a few sharp notes. Katy Perry never lip syncs. That’s why she used to be so inconsistent live, she’s always live no matter the day or sickness. She got better in 2017 and kept improving since, in 2020 she showed how great she is live even while pregnant.
As Georgina said there’s nothing wrong with singing parts pre-recorded. I do believe she sang most of it live which was phonomenal but there ’s no way she would be able to hear herself with all those fireworks. Not to mention she’s got to position herself with a moving camera to make sure you see the fireworks so she gets a pass for literally a few moments! I remember at Obama’s first inauguration when Beyoncé lied about singing 100% live and Kelly Clarkson actually sung live and said it is extremely hard with the cold weather and echo factor so hands down to Katy! Best performance and so inspiring!

@@farisshah6060 It’s called a back track. It’s not actually lip syncing. She did sing live at the Super Bowl just like all of her live performances. However, for live tv performances like the inauguration or Super Bowl. It’s a mix of the live and the pre-recorded track.
@@farisshah6060 she herself said only firework part was prerecorded because she was flying up in the sky other were live and she also used a backtrack. All the singers usually use a backtrack because performing at events like Superbowls is a huge opportunity and usually singers don't want to mess it up.
This was NOT lipsynced. She has sang Firework exactly like this countless times on tour, so I’m 100% confident she sang this live.
Tbh in Orlando’s post where she’s ending it you can’t hear her voice at all and he is close then the minute the song ends you can hear the voice louder even without the mic but oh well

Irrelevant. Who has ever hold a mic in their life can (sometimes quite easily) tell when a performance is lipsynced, based on the volume dynamics. Some parts of this performance are 99% live. Not sure the whole performance is, though.

Obviously fireworks are loud but Katy was still quite a distance away from them to be able to sing without lip syncing. She usually has a backing track which some people are confusing for pre recorded vocals.

At one point after the chorus, you could just hear the backing track and katy singing live. I definitely believe it was live but with a backing track after hearing that.
and she has sang this song 1000s of times with fireworks (even for her tours on lower scale or even superbowl etc) that she probably is used to it and they would have adjusted her in-ears accordingly
I think she recorded it before hand with the imperfect vocals to keep it as real or live as possible. She sounded great, but what gave it away for me that it wasn’t totally live, was when she said the 1st “Cause baby you’re a firework” in the beginning.
+ she sings much better when she is standing still, just like in this case. When she starts dancing, she loses the key (probably bad breath support)
Some parts of this performance are live, for sure. You can tell from the volume dynamics (how the volume changes follow the changes in the distance between her head and the microphone). But I think the "boom boom boom" part is lipsynced.

I'm very sure that this wasn't lip-synced. She has her backup singers most of the time, but it's true that when they're not on camera it can sound like it's lip-synced 😃

You can hear her breathing, messing some of the lyrics and struggling some parts, maybe there were some pre recorded vocals but it was definitively most live, and there's no shame to sing along with pre record vocals, even Beyonce does that. Great reaction, Georgina, thanks for never disrespecting fans and the artist herself

Remember her song is FIREWORK she’s been performing this for over ten years with fireworks in the background and exploding she knows her voice and her song. She can perform her song just as good with or without fireworks she’s used to it.
It cannot be lip syncing, there is tone, "irregularities" that a pre-recorded performance wouldn't have, she already sung firework LIVE so many times with the same energy and power. Plus, Katy never lip sync except using backing vocals.
Actually some artists leave that "irregularities" in the pre-recorded to make it more credible
She can prerecord the performance with imperfections to make it seem as “live” as possible. It’s common. She still sounded great.

This was all Live. Maybe there were some backing vocals, but this is fine. You can clearly see on Orlando Bloom's BThS that it was all live. This was not PERFECT, which makes Katy, Katy. And anyway, WHO CARES IF SHE LIP SYNCED, THERE WERE TONS OF FIREWORKS IN THE BACK, SO EVEN IF IT WAS PRE-RECORDED SHE STILL SUNG IT IN THE FRIST PLACE, like chill out people...💕

After watching katy preform this song countless times live, it always sounds more or less the same, and she has never once lip synced. You can definitely hear it is live by some of the slight vocal irregularities

The performances by Katy Perry and John Legend were 100% live. Some people are saying that the backstage video that Orlando posted on Instagram of Katy’s performance, they are saying that the fireworks were to loud to get hear on tv because on Orlando’s video the fireworks were to loud and he was near enough to Katy, and people are saying that all was lip sync. Let me tell you one thing. The earpieces that you see artists wear? It like you or I listening to headphones. So they have the music cues, any background vocals, etc directly in their ear over exterior noise. So Katy Perry and John Legend’s mics had a direct feed. John's piano would have had it's own mic with a direct feed, and any additional music bed. There's an engineer controlling the sound levels that we hear on the other side, and they can determine how much surround we get (ie fireworks). When everything live outdoors is mic'ed and patched separately, you get that very clear and isolated audio we got last night, as opposed to one mic that grabs everything.
Can you then explain why you don’t hear loud crowds or even fireworks at other concerts/events come through mics? I’ve seen Katy live before and there were fireworks and she was 100% singing live

I don't think it was lip synced, she has hardly (as far as I can remember just once) lip synced, and she has performed this song with fireworks 1000s of times so I think it was live (and yes the fireworks were loud) but she probably had a loud in-ear piece.

As a Katy Cat who watched a lot of Katy’s performances I believe it was lipped to a pre recorded. The cold weather, the fireworks and the importance of this performance can all be possible factors. Katy rarely lips so when she lips some of her movements are weird. Still it doesn’t change the fact that it was an amazing performance and she has nothing more to prove since she has so many amazing performances of this song already.
True. She sounded great and the performance was amazing.
But the vocal was not live - it was pre-recorded in a rehearsal studio and they spliced the best bits of several takes together, along with some flat notes to give it a less polished feel in order to sound more genuine.
But the absence of her breathing sounds between most phrases gives it away :)
...And also some of her lip movements did not match the vocal entirely.

I found this Performance of Katy the absolute best Performance she has ever made! 👍 Absolutely magestic towards the final climb of the End of the Song and the enormous Fireworks was simply amazing! I to believe that, with the noise of those Fireworks 🎇 in the background, she must have had to lipsync parts of the Song, but by god did she ever go for it! What a fantastic performance and I could see how much the new President and 1st Lady enjoyed this! Just as much as the Fireworks 🎇... LoL 😂 Katy certainly has grown into a much better live singer now then she was at the earlier part of her Career as a Pop Star 🌟!
