For those curious the 2008 USA Olympic Wrestling team featured Henry Cejudo, Ben Askren and Daniel Cormier.
And it’s crazy to think , that Henry was the only one , to win gold .

@Kirk Landau, there are lots of other olympic wrestlers from other years who went into MMA. Matt Lindland, Kevin Jackson, Dan Henderson, Mark Coleman, Sara McMann.
Usually, a state champion is a second or third generation wrestler, son of another somewhat accomplished wrestler who learned the tricks of the sport very early in life and had a clear path to success shown to them. This guy’s mother crossed the border on foot, and he ended up winning 4 state titles, that’s a genius.

Yeah, it's great to hear these guys debate about which USA wrestlers will wrestle at the next Olympics. Dake or Taylor, Snyder or Cox... The US has so much depth right now. It's nice to see. I'm looking forward to the NCAA next month!

Snyder / Sadulaev is one the best rivalries ever already because of how talented and competitive they are, and the best thing about it is that they're just starting. The latter could've stayed in his division and continue dominating there but no, he is so competitive that he decided to test himself against Kyle and in a sense be the biggest stone in his way. Can't wait to see those future encounters.

I love watching Gable right now. I'm from Mn. I agree with Henry. I hope he savors this. Then moves to MMA later if he wants. I see Olympic Gold with that kid. Watch his 4th state title match (high school). He goes cartwheel to backflip after his win. He's one of the most athletic heavyweights I've ever seen.
I was thinking Dillashaw would win, but the contrast was incredible. TJ went in smiling, relaxed, and Henry went in like the terminator, did not want any of the feel-out process. Great strategy.

Askren is the truth. Casual fight fans may not be excited by his style, but if you actually understand whats going on, you've watched Askren matches on loop. So many subtle ways of controlling a man, getting a man to gas out, wrist control, neck control and just fucking grinding it out. Takes a shot too, look at the guy's chin. Yep I'm a mark for Askren. I have him smoking lawler.....

Henry, you may be right that in RECENT times there is a much bigger interest and more people are learning to watch wrestling. And it's about f------ time.
However, regarding the past 20 years plus, Chael is spot on since wrestling was pretty much shit on since most didn't understand that Hollywood and bullshit fake martial arts instructors made it seem like if you study something with an exotic name, and it's form the far East or if you're a pro boxer... you've got fighting covered. Wrestlers always knew it was worth knowing wrestling, mostly because of how easy it was to rag doll non-wrestlers in fights since we were kids and how we also could actually transition to lots of sports since wrestling is so whole-body, improvisational yet cerebral at the same time. The demands make it obvious it's valuable yet we couldn't believe, for many years, how little respect it got. Totally illogical and political. Chael is absolutely right to feel that way because he's been around through the changes.
Not that Henry is naive to it, he's just not being realistic to what someone like Chael would reasonably think.
It's great wrestling has gained some popularity again but man has it been frustrating to wait for the masses to finally understand while running their mouths, clueless, for so long.

Robbie I am only questioning 2 things, is he healthy "for real" and is he going to stick around "for real." Even after Robbie won the belt he didn't sound like he was planning on staying in MMA much longer so after his layoff just Robbie's own mind frame is a big question. Then for Ben, can he keep from eating a "big" Ruthless hook, knee, shin, or elbow...and Robbie isn't intimidated by anyone. It's a better fight for a huge litter of reasons but "How long is either guy staying in the sport?"
I also always wanted to see Robbie get a GSP fight as the last member of Matt Hughes teammates that still do it. If he could pull off a win he may even be able to goat GSP back into the division...that's a HUGE maybe, LOL

It's incredible that Cejudo began training MMA in 2013, and six years later he out strikes TJ Dillashaw who's proven to be one of the best strikers in the UFC, especially after both fights against Garbrandt.

Robbie Lawler is not likely to knockout Askren. Why? He is not a one punch knockout guy and has relatively slow predictable combinations. Knocking an opponent out before he grapples you is much harder then most fans believe it is. If Lawler connects well with one punch early he would still have to follow Askren to the ground to finish him and that's risky at best.
