    This is a very well done tutorial for begginers.
    But we all know that once you get assigned to a forklift and need to move stuff you're immediately under pressure to move them as fast as possible and as much as you can.
    Time is money!

    This video is absolutely absurd. Not only is it extremely dangerous to drive with the forks that high, but absolutely no one is going to "vocalize" that nonsense, and no one sets the goddamn parking brake to pick up a pallet.

    • @MAXLD
      @MAXLD 5 років тому +16

      It's surely intended for a basic training video for new drivers. Appart from the forks high/tilted up with no load (which is dumb), the rest is "useful"/advisable when teaching a total noob that has never picked up a forklift before, to avoid making silly mistakes due lack of coordination / minimal experience. I sometimes show new coworkers how to basically operate a forklift and they all make the same mistakes:
      - confusing forward / backward, or miss judging throttle sensitivity (especially when they have to adjust the distance to the load and when looking back)
      - confusing upwards / downwards smashing the forks into the ground or something else
      - not looking back when going backwards (and when doing so, getting disoriented with the wheel / throttling)
      - trying to do all at the same time, not focusing at everything they're doing, and losing control (operating the forks at the same time they move the forklift, for example)
      It's easy for a noob to even confuse throttling with fork operation, going forwards when they just wanted to lift the forks, and basic stuff like that. That's then why they should always use the handbrake while picking up a load. And why they should first step-check before going backwards (because when they get used to it, they'll do it more quickly and instinctively, won't be a checklist step they have to remember)... although shouting each step in this case is probably just a thing to do when having an instructor teaching along, to make sure he knows you are paying attention (otherwise is just weird. Japanese weird.).
      Most of the things only can be correctly achieved naturally with time, repetition, and overall experience. Until then, is better to do some of this safer basic stuff, because coordination is seriously lacking when first picking up a forklift... and many companies don't even have a regular teaching program for every new worker... they just employ them (with zero experience/license) and the old coworkers have to be the ones "teaching" them how to do it.
      Hell, some will even have external "teachers" coming along for a single 6~8h (lackluster) theory session in a class room, and at the end just pass them a "license" without even ever putting them into practice right after, not even climbing into a forklift at all. Not even being 100m near a forklift. Obviously later when shit hits the fan, because the dude was a total wreck, he legally had teaching before and was approved, so... y, company "did their part".

      MAXLD the only thing I found odd about everything you said was license multiple times and there is no such thing as a forklift license there are only forklift certifications this is because the word license Indicates that the government is involved heavily and keeps track of who has a license but this does not happen with forklift certifications but other that that this seems like an extremely useful comment

    6:30 Reminds me of that time when the forklift I was driving was tipping forward when i tried to pick up some wall slabs. Too much weight, the load exceeded the maximum load. Eventually my supervisor helped me by using the pallet truck for support so the wall slabs could be safely moved into the building. Luckily this was a one off thing, the company normally deals with paper.
    It helps to know the weights before hand but If ever you feel that you start to tip forwards, pull back, don't attempt to move the load and see your options,
    #1 Use a pallet truck for support
    #2 Use a stronger forklift truck if available
    #3 Use a second forklift if available, however take your time with this one.

    How to take 20 minutes to move 1 pallet:
    1. inch up to the racks,
    2. put the parking brake on,
    3. shift into neutral,
    4. point in every direction around you, shout clear,
    5. lift all the way to top rack without using the gas,
    6. parking brake off,
    7. inch forward,
    8. stop,
    9. parking brake on,
    10. neutral,
    11. lift,
    12. point in every direction and yell out clear AGAIN,
    13. parking brake off,
    14. inch backwards,
    15. stop again,
    16. parking brake on,
    17. neutral,
    18. lower the pallet,
    19. tilt back,
    20. for a THIRD time point in every direction and yell clear,
    21. reverse,
    22. parking brake off
    23. FINALLY start moving toward the dock at a blistering 1km/h.
    See how long you keep your job when there are five trucks lined up waiting for loads and this is how you run the lift lmao

      A forklift licence is very useful, it is easier to get into work with that licence at hand than if you don't. I would go for the training, it's costly but it'll be worth it. It can help in an existing job that already has a forklift or if your out of work getting back in because employers are always looking for Forklift drivers.

Other than that I use the clutch/inch pedal and the gas to raise the forks at a higher speed, ain’t nobody got time to fiddle with the gear or Parking break. 😂 that’s why the parking break is called the Parking break, cuz the only time you should need to use it is when you park. Lol

    It's a training video so ok I get it, it's super strict and safe and everything but obviously nobody drives like that. I mean the techniques are ok but I've never seen anybody look, point and vocalize like that when they load unload anything, that is just crazy. Maybe Japan is special and they don't have time constraint but vocalize? Really?
    That is not how you adjust forks. Stand up next to the fork, lift the lock, either pull with your foot inside the fork and your hands atop the fork, or push with your foot outside the fork and your hands atop the fork.Your legs are stronger than your arms, you will avoid back injuries from the crouching, save your knees and avoid the fingers injury. Try it, you'll see.
    As for cornering, I would teach the pivot wheel. When you turn here, this wheel becomes your pivot point and this becomes your arc because you're going X speed. That is the physic of the maneuver. Because the backrest is not the pivot point, the wheel is.
    As for loading / unloading, they should show the triangle of gravity, because that's the physic of the maneuver.
    Anyhow, it's good basics, never have enough training but with experience, some things you apply, some you don't. Please don't vocalize later on in your career.

      The've always been a pain to move, some models have the hydraulics to move them but it just depends on weather this luxury is needed (if you deal with a lot of multiple sized pallets). If it's just the odd pallet in a blue moon, this hydraulic isn't really necessary.

    1# moving forks 20cm from ground level tilted 15cm back.
    2# operator should never "rest" right hand on control leavers while machine in motion.
    3# before placing pallet to final storage position either level forks at ground level or adjust when pallet at final position .... the latter indicated when movement between pallet and Hoist cradle have separated.
    4# when reversing from pallet placement and confirming exit clear always observe forks have exited safety from pallet. This will ensure pallet is not "dragged".
    Only then resume reverse observation once forks lowerd to normal travel position.

      Nice, these kind of videos do help keep existing drivers refreshed and inspires those who want to learn. But for it all to be legal, we need to be trained/retrained officially. Forklift videos are like Aerial boosters whilst the licence is the Aerial.
      As for experience, I'm assuming you already have your licence. I can only say to keep trying and someone will take you on. I was fortunate enough to be put on a forklift course by my boss at work so the moment I passed, I could legally use it straight away and this is how I got my experience (until I was made redundant due to covid last year). I used my experience on my next job which I also got made redundant from - not having much luck with jobs at the moment but I'm optimistic and I'll be back on that forklift once again.

    3:04 forks are tilted to high should be 4 to 6 inches off the ground thus this operator needs to readjust his forks

    There is a reason why they are called a lift truck and not a forklift a lot of the time does anybody know?

    How do you drive them up and down slopes, I can never remember ?

    • @RazgulTheKind
      @RazgulTheKind 6 років тому +2

      Always drive up and down slopes with the forks facing uphill and tilted back slightly :)

    • @zarrow50
      @zarrow50 6 років тому

      is that the same when carrying a load as having no load?

    • @RazgulTheKind
      @RazgulTheKind 6 років тому +4

      Yep! A good way to remember it is if you're going down a slope - reverse. If you're going up a slope - drive forwards.

    • @Patfettx
      @Patfettx 5 років тому +1

      you don'T drive forward with a load, period. Even when the load does not obstruct your view, go reverse. It's a stiff rule and seldom are the occasions you'll have to drive forward with a load, there are exceptions.

    • @RazgulTheKind
      @RazgulTheKind 5 років тому +5

      A stiff rule where? You drive in reverse when the load obstructs your view or when you need to carry a load down a slope. Just think, if you reversed *up* a slope with a load the load will slide of the forks, no matter how far you tilt back...

    Linde forklifts are better, they only have a gas pedal, the less you press it, the more it stops, you take your foot off completely, its like slamming the brakes

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m Рік тому

      I think that's a brilliant idea, saves a lot of time thanks to less under pressure and also save money without extra pedals. Linde knows how to design a forklift.

      @@hakeemsd70m Linde is literally the top dog of forklifts in europe, the less you press the gas pedal the slower it goes, you take your foot off completely, its like slamming the brakes, top notch german engineering, do you have those in the U.S?
