this i think is especially true for newer players. I feel like cheating has increased particularly in lower elo brackets lately, due to the influx of new players in the last years... daily games seem to be less affected though, maybe because it would be more "boring" for cheaters.
Really liked this video and think it's a great summary of the situation in chess. The temptation to cheat must be huge for a lot of these guys. Congrats on the 800 subs!!
Cheating in online games in general is fascinating to me, it removes the element of “playing” from the game, which is after all the only thing it provides given that you aren’t a professional playing in tournaments.
Hi there! Nice video and I'd like you to stream playing chess online, would be fun to watch. Btw i like your pronunciation soooo much, it's soooo British! Keep it up and good luck on your journey of growing your channel 🎉
the point of Kramnik is that cheating in chess is very easy, and gives the cheater a huge advantage; while in other sports it's the other way around. And yet, people are paranoid about cheating in other sports, but not in chess (which should be the other way around). Maybe it's because chess managers realise that it's impossible to reliably catch cheaters, so, they pretend the problem doesn't exist and ignore it?
Cheating in chess is incredibly easy, especially online, it just gets to a point where people blur the lines between reasonable accusations and paranoia, you get me?
My dude, chess players have always been paranoid when it comes to cheating, Caruana said 50% of titled players cheat on titled tuesday like come on that's pure paranoia
I use an extension to hide my rating and my opponents rating so I just focus on the game itself!! Then, you don’t focus on underestimating opponents rated lower than you etc!
I had a friend that used cheat on lichess and get banned. (he played since 5 years old in my club) he stopped cheating and today he is 2350 on lichess and one of the strongest players in my club. I really dont know how.
Regardless of whether you are a grandmaster or an amateur, I think you can do very good content, and I wish the best for your channel. The things you say are spot on but there's one problem: Why do you call chess players, including other grandmasters paranoid? Do you realize the magnitude of cheating both OTB and online? It's literally mind-boggling. Just because everybody keeps silence about it doesn't mean everything is fine in modern chess. One day the situation will come to a head. Of course, you can join the players who either keep silence or benefit from the situation.
Dubov did an interview that’s really really good, that because of the high quality of chess people play online, and with the recent accusations such as Hans Niemann etc, people have become more aware of cheating and the possibility that people can cheat at such a high level and get away with it. I think that inevitably makes people more paranoid, maybe describing the players as have more suspicion of other players would be a better way to phrase it :)
@@zara_mov *I advise staying out of it.* ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT A PRO. DO NOT CATER TO CHEATERS AND THEIR ILK. Chess players have always known what's going on. Everybody knows it. Niemann knows it. Dubov knows it. Women players know it. Kosteniuk knows it. Krush knows it. Everybody knows. They all keep complete silence. This has been going on for many years now. And it's not changing any time soon. It is not about a bunch of specific players like Nakamura or Niemann or Osmak Yulia or Tigran Petrosyan. Yes, they have been singled out. Yet the problem is dozens of times much more serious than just a few individuals. Nobody has suspicions. It's just that 99% and 99.9% probability of cheating and even 99.99% is not enough to formally prove anything. *It's more like nobody can do anything about it, it's more like players accepted that nothing can be done about it and prefer to keep silence.* Nobody proved anything. Nobody proved Petrosyan cheated. Nobody proved Osmak cheated. Nobody even proved Niemann cheated. Niemann just admitted it when he was a kid and was confronted with automatic accusations. They were not even based on his play. He was just switching browser windows often and that triggered basic anticheat. There's nothing more to it. *He probably cheated a lot less than others!*
3:20 this is what 90% of professional chess is -- rote memorisation of positions. professional players study the best move of the engine in certain positions, and remember that move - their brains are huge databases of chess positions. engines ARE used for gaining this knowledge by the professionals
I have to disagree generally with what you said. It’s definitely not 90%. Plus there’s already more lines of opening theory out there than anyone could remember and that’s before engines. Even if one could rote memorize all the opening moves it’s only useful if you understand the resulting positions and know how to play those middle games and end games. Using an engine definitely helps speed up the process of opening prep and game analysis. And it is useful for checking you didn’t miss something crucial in some complicated position(most the time, engines can still miss stuff). But just memorizing inhumanly sharp engine lines isn’t necessarily useful for even super GMs. It’s impossible to always understand what the engine sees and no human can see even thousands of moves down some line that an engine calculated millions and millions. So memorizing engine moves can be helpful in some opening lines, its usefulness in winning high level chess games is limited. It’s a massive time investment for little to no return.
i mean, he was a total crazy person, and quite a despicable one too, but that doesn't make every single one of his points invalid, does it? First of all, you put words on my mouth I never said "every single one of his points invalid". If you read what I wrote, Its a suggestion. The reason why I don't think it's best for her to "QUOTE" Fischer is, he view women in a slightly negative way

I'm going to be honest I cheated on one lichess Account in order to have a higher rating and be able to play higher rated players than I could normally get. Because in my opinion playing higher rated players is the only way to improve and when I'm not cheating (I would never cheat in otb/rated chess or if money is on the line) i'm still a 2100 so I at least somewhat know a thing or two about chess and what i am talking about.
This makes no sense and doesn’t sound like anything a 2100 rated player would ever say. I could be wrong but if I had to put a $100 on it… I’d bet you are not a 2100.
Your honesty to say such a thing is admirable although your mindset is absolutely questionable because you need to punish the mistakes presented by your own elo.
