Lyrics: Oh, the love you promised would be mine forever I would have bet my bottom dollar on Well, it sure turned out to be a short forever Just once I turned my back and you were gone From now on all my friends are gonna be strangers I'm all through ever trusting anyone The only thing I can count on now is my fingers I was a fool believing in you and now you are gone It amazes me, not knowing any better Than to think I had a love who would be true Why, I should be taken out, tarred and feathered To have let myself be taken in by you From now on all my friends are gonna be strangers I'm all through ever trusting anyone The only thing I can count on now is my fingers I was a fool believing in you and now you are gone

One of Merle's first of many great songs off his 1964 album titled "My Friends are Gonna Be Strangers". Merle went on to name his band The Strangers after the record's success. Great stuff, Thanks for posting this.
I HEARD THAT THOSE TWO TELECASTERS WERE GIVEN TO MERLE AND ROY NICHOLS BY FENDER AT THE GUITAR FACTORY. ANYWAY THEY CAN REALLY MAKE SOME SWEET COUNTRY MUSIC ,R.I.P. MERLE.
Merle said in a interview that I heard a while back he said "I love my guitar". Has anyone ever noticed Merle & Red (his lead guitar player) have the same guitar just like Buck Owens & Don Rich had the same guitar. Somebody told me Merle had them 2 guitars special made for him & Red. IDK. maybe. RIP Merle
Lyrics:
Oh, the love you promised would be mine forever
I would have bet my bottom dollar on
Well, it sure turned out to be a short forever
Just once I turned my back and you were gone
From now on all my friends are gonna be strangers
I'm all through ever trusting anyone
The only thing I can count on now is my fingers
I was a fool believing in you and now you are gone
It amazes me, not knowing any better
Than to think I had a love who would be true
Why, I should be taken out, tarred and feathered
To have let myself be taken in by you
From now on all my friends are gonna be strangers
I'm all through ever trusting anyone
The only thing I can count on now is my fingers
I was a fool believing in you and now you are gone
If Roy Nichols ain't on it then it ain't the best...too many musicians on stage
Unless it's a lady shark in dolphin clothing.....

Those are Merles signature Tuff Dog Telecasters. Fender custom shop made them special for him. You can own one for about $7000.00
Brian Helle it's a Bakersfield thing I reckon
