That era is called Republic of China, ROC. NOT Taiwan. Taiwanese people still called themselves Chinese people. Its only until 1979 that the UN and America switch recognition from ROC or PRC as the rightful China that people had to respect PRC and started calling ROC as Taiwan. Taiwanese people have always recognized themselves as Chinese, no more than Californians are Americans. That is until DPP came into power and start stirring the independence sentiments that people start calling themselves Taiwanese as a nationality. Despite DPP have been in power for over 5 terms and over 16 years, they still haven't made changes to their constitution to go independent. Even now in 2024, its still illegal by law for Taiwan to go independent. DPP is just full of crap, lying to its voters to gain votes.
