    Another slick way to get the dents out is to put a piece of wooden dowel (or anything that looks right) into a drill press. Don't turn it on, but use it as a press and simply press the dents out. You can shape the dowel, or whatever you use, to fit the repair. Good video Jeff!

    For beginners I might bring something softer like wood mallet, and place the molding hammer exactly where I want tot then tap slowyat first . Avoid the random strikes against your limited supply chrome. Very good idea with the bottle opener. Thanks

    This is great ! Just starting to dive in a bit on my roof weatherstrip channel rail the windshield guy mangled I didn’t realize till later / now. There looks like old crusty seam sealer between each piece of stainless. Is that the norm ? Thx 🥂

    yup, Hes tapping with a hammer, I'm sure he could find something smooth to put against the stainless and then hit that. Personally, I' have mold released up a smooth portion of the stainless and mixed a glob of 5 minute JB weld, and put the small end of the hammer in it. Let it get hard now you hav the shape you need then put it in the dinged up area of the stainless and tap it with another hammer or press it with that drill press idea....

    A 12" length of 2x4" works well. Just roll down the windows, put the wood against the edge of lip, tap, move 6" and repeat. Fast and safe. On a wagon you cannot roll down the windows in back so the bottle opener is a great idea too.

      Not yet, we don't have a fastback Torino around to work on. Sure wish we did though lol.

      @@AutoRestoMod any chance of a mustang fastback in the shop ? Maybe similar enough that I can learn how to remove the trim. Thanks

    What about if you can't get to the back side of dent, such as if it's behind the lip where you can't reach with hammer?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  3 роки тому +1

      Those are tough. I have typically had to send them off for repair. If you do the rest, it won't cost you as much.

    what if you tap the peen hammer with another, ie use the peen hammer as a drift tool instead of trying to nail the dent with it? I like the bottle opener trick but maybe glue a piece of leather on the tip so it doesnt mar the stainless?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  7 років тому

      The aluminum one we use doesn't mar the surface BUT the steel will nick the underside if you aren't careful. We have done both the peening hammer straight and the "double tap" method.

      I know you won't read this...but I feel compelled to help others who see your comment. We do this as our job. I worked hard to make the video, and while I am as helpful as I can be (answer tons of tech questions and flippant dismissers like you that don't pay me a dime) I feel I should be compensated for my days of work. If you are among the employed I expect that you don't go in there and "take one for the team" and not accept a pay check. Why expect that from me. Even a street performer puts a hat or can out to get something for his time.

      Sorry about that. I'm actually subscribed and I like your channel. I was feeling very cynical about everything the day I made my comment and I don't know why. I also broke my own rule of not commenting until I've watched the whole video. I apologize and take it back. Keep up the good work. :)
