Don’t use expanding foam, you don’t want to introduce toxic chemicals into your well. Wait until spring and replace the black perforated pipe with a longer piece that sticks out of the ground by a couple of feet. Wrap the entire length in filter cloth and add gravel right up to ground level. Dig a drainage trench around the well to divert ground water away from the exposed part of the well.
Great video Russell, you’re getting so much done. You really do enjoy the winter. Love the repair job on the shed. Please do a Christmas video, I love those!!
Russ, you could shave with that axe. Great video. Thanks for sharing your adventures! That beverage certainly sounds good. Unfortunately I cannot try it myself but will prepare one for my good wife. Hope you and your family have a great festive season!!!
Thanks for the video Russel ! If the testing lab doesn't like to test untreated water I might take the water from my well and treat it by boiling & filtering it the way I usually do before I send it in to the lab to be tested. Good luck & seasoned greetings ! 😛
So cleaning snow off my portable garage like yours I have a push stick(like a wide push broom) that I use INSIDE to lift the tarp and that makes the snow slide off. Easy and protected while you do it
Russell, You did a great job on the shed. As for the well, I have a couple of thoughts. If you can reach down, fill the larger voids between the two with some of the leftover "well" fabric. I imagine there's some kind of food grade silicone out there. Then maybe cut a 4" strip long enough to cover the seam, securing it to the barrels with the silicone. It's kind of like fiber glass. Will it work? Who knows. You asked for ideas. Those are mine. Keep up the good work. Peace ✌️
Christmas videos keep doing them they are what you enjoy and that's what the holiday is having fun and family. The fix on your small problem is in the summer or spring an old tractor rubber inner tube split and wrap it around the two well plastic tubes and using pipe strapping you can tighten them enough to stop water seepage between blue barrel and black field tile also you could make a filter with cheese cloth on the end of hose to kind of filter dirt or small Debrie from entering the pump. I hope my explanation is understandable. Keep safe.
Nice innovative repair to the storage tent. On the water well situation, if you treat the water for bacteria and filter it I would go ahead and use it. When the water level goes back down it would be good to seal the black/blue barrel seam with food grade silicon chalking. In the future I would put a submersible pump in the well and run a water line up to the cabin, or investigate the possibility of putting in a well closer to the cabin.
Merry Christmas! Will definitely have to try that drink. One for the holidays I've been into lately is a Chocolate White Russian, equal parts vodka/Kahlua/chocolate bailey's.
you can get water purification tablets and clean the water and start hauling it to your water storage, and use it, get water in town for drinking and cooking until you get it tested. The summer may not be so much water. You did a good job. Definitely connect the blue to the black
Russel the reason why it collapsed is your failure to scrape off the snow off the roof. It must be done after every snowfall no matter how significant. Or risk further damage. Mayb in the spring you could build a more secure shed out of lumber
Is it possible to dig a good sized trench/ditch to drain the surface water to the beaver pond, make the trench at least six to eight inches deep so there isn’t any standing water near your well…just a suggestion carry on…been there and made most of the same mistakes…..best of luck
It would be a lot of work Russell, but I think you should start over with a longer. Piece of pipe. You want? It to be the best it can be for the long haul. You may need to wait until Spring.
russell you did a great job on the well but you need an overflow pipe to control the height of the water in your well. you will have to drill a half inch inch or so hole about 4 inches down from the top of your black pipe and dig the dirt with a shovel on the outside of the pipe deep enough that you can install an overflow pipe and the overflow water is dispersed far away from the well
Smart work on the barn. I would continue the wood all the way to the back. It had no support in the center areas. You have really tucked into some projects. I would not use foam inside the water barrels. TOXIC I was thinking more in the line of metal tape. You will need to go around it twice to overlap it. But that is the way to go.
Personally, I think the blue barrel should be sealed to the black barrel even though the black barrel has the slots all the way up getting towards the top. I'm far from being an expert, but I've done a fair amount of research when it comes to developing a spring. I believe some of the techniques could be beneficial for your well. Basically, you have something like a sand filter where water is flowing underground, with a bedrock bottom. I think a large tarp or sheet of plastic with a hole the size of the blue barrel cut out in the center should be placed over the ground around the well to limit the amount of surface water from entering near the well. Cover the tarp/plastic with dirt to hold it in place. This should basically increase the size of the natural biological filter surrounding the well. What do you think?
Russell, remove green garden hose from pump..... get a piece of pvc pipe 3/4 with elbow and hose end and screw to pump.... let pvc straight down to bottom of water... quit fooling with it LA tampa
I like your videos & yes a Xmas one Anything you can say or explain about day to day living off grid as my daughter is planning it Do you have back up for heat etc
Hey Russell. I would say that the expanding foam you suggest as a sealant wouldn't work well. I don't think its designed to be water tight and that's what you want. Isn't there a can of stuff advertised on TV that you can apply under water to seal pool leaks and the like? Maybe try that. I don't have a name brand for you though. I see now that you plan to treat the water before use. That would negate most of my previous comments about avoiding any surface water infiltration but still, to reduce the bacti concentrations as low as possible take all reasonable steps to ensure that the water in the well is ground water and not surface water. Good luck.
Black pipe should of been at least 4foot longer well above ground level. Chances are in the spring you will have too redig it out replace the black with a longer one an rebury it then build a small shed type cover for it
Hello Russell. Nice work on the rock! I wish you and Alicia a Merry Christmas. Stay safe and warm.

Merry Solstice,Merry Christmas to you Russell & City Girl! 🌲❤
Nice quick little repair job on the structure.

Exactly like I would have done it! And, so this is Christmas, wishing you's some Pea Soup ✌
Junebugs not buying what you're trying to sell her. Merry Christmas and Happy New year Russell and City Girl.
Merry Christmas! Will definitely have to try that drink. One for the holidays I've been into lately is a Chocolate White Russian, equal parts vodka/Kahlua/chocolate bailey's.

COOKING,XMAS DECORATIONS…..what’s not to like!!!!!👍🎄❄️🎁🎅🏻🍷
Probably a silly question, why did you cut the well pipe so short?
Russel the reason why it collapsed is your failure to scrape off the snow off the roof. It must be done after every snowfall no matter how significant. Or risk further damage. Mayb in the spring you could build a more secure shed out of lumber
hi Russell, my only constant comment is , way to go! From Vancouver Island 🇨🇦
Feet up .. happy Holidays 🎄
Rainbow cloud dog......what a thing.....what a thing.
Could you insert another pipe with a smaller diameter that's higher then your present set up?
Is it possible to dig a good sized trench/ditch to drain the surface water to the beaver pond, make the trench at least six to eight inches deep so there isn’t any standing water near your well…just a suggestion carry on…been there and made most of the same mistakes…..best of luck
For a second, I thought you meant when you mentioned Fire Ball. It was a drink yummy stuff, lol
It would be a lot of work Russell, but I think you should start over with a longer. Piece of pipe. You want?
It to be the best it can be for the long haul. You may need to wait until Spring.
What if you turn the tarp the other way?? Then you can cover both front and the back tooMerry Christmas🧑🎄🤶🎅🎄🎁
Why don’t you tape a stick to the hose inside the well so it won’t curle?
Yes I like those videos.. especially if y’all sing.. and drink that damn water ( if it’s clean) lol.. merry Christmas!
Sump pump set just below the seam to make sure the water does not get that high.
Yay Christmas videos 🎉

Excellent video. Will there be toxins in the expanding foam?
Lots.
At least you still have sun this time of year :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I made up a drink ,fireball and ginger-ale, I call it a hot red head delish.
Tire rock, or some kind of weight at the end of the green hose. It’s to keep it straight.
I think the water in there is ground water .
Russell, remove green garden hose from pump..... get a piece of pvc pipe 3/4 with elbow and hose end and screw to pump.... let pvc straight down to bottom of water... quit fooling with it LA tampa
Hey Russell, could you put a rubber gasket between the two barrels and then screw them together?
Hello , Get another pipe that a wee smaller and wrap it,and put it inside of that one and taller
I like your videos
& yes a Xmas one
Anything you can say or explain about day to day living off grid as my daughter is planning it

flex tape for now

❄️🎄Happy Friday!!!🎄❄️
Please do the Christmas video.
🎄🎄❤️🎄🎄
Hi Russell, why are you pumping out the water from the well and not using it? At the very least, the dogs could drink it.
Rainbows and hotdogs!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Melekalikimaka with Aloha...
Buy you a one piece tube that comes up above the ground and no sealing required.
Do the christmas video. I watch them all
first black barel is to short
You need to boil the water after you filter it inside your home
Why aren't you pumping to the house tank now? and if you are concerned about the quality of water then boil it first or put a bit of floride in it.
What about aquarium seal. It's safe for fish it should help seal that I would think.
You need a boot to seal so the ground water not to get in
Yes do the video
BTW, nothing good ever came out of a bottle of Fireball. Granted I make this proclamation from seeing people who overindulge in the spirit.🤣🎄
flat tire on your traylor
Captain Morgan Rum is much better with eggnog add a cinnamon stick
When you do something, speak up, don't play dumb. 😅
