    Thank you for being the only video I have found that shows a clear view of where that Tail Lamp is for replacement. Still can't unfasten it, neither could AutoZone because the lamp holder is plastic, but at least we know that it isn't the white electrical connector in front of it!

    Video was great, followed it and took only a few minutes to replace taillight with no problems. (space in tail gate is very tight so that was a hassle but the video made that point)

    Great help. I used the same company he used. It saved me $40 bucks from the companies I was looking to get the parts from originally.
    that most inner nut is hard to get to.

    My problem is on my 2017 rav4, the 2 bolts are covered by a metal panel and I cant figure out how to get that off to get to the bolts on the side of the lift... This is a great video and helped me figure out where the 3 bolts inside the panel are.

      In the link here there is a part in the middle of the demonstration that shows how to do this. The part that shows it is kind of chaotic but gives the info needed to remove this metal panel: 4 screws and 3 plastic insert pieces. Not hard at all once you see it except for a wire connection that you need to be aware/careful of. Good luck!

      also should add, the 4 bolts are 5/16th, no 10mm like everything else, at least on my 2017 Hybrid Limited.

    I was thinking about changing all my exterior lights to leds back in 2022, all of the front lights have been done (aside from the side marker lights cuz the don’t want to come out and fog lights cuz mine 2015 LE doesn’t have it) and then it came to the taillights. I saw one video and instantly decided on to leave it how it is until any of them stop working cuz that’s very annoying. I was able to change the license plate lights and reverse lights easily and the inner taillights seem easy to change but the brake lights and rear turn signals aren’t and I would rather have the reds all look the same instead of having inner red lights that are brighter than the outer red lights when not applying the brakes.

    This is very helpful except that there is an insulation trim piece that covers the two outside nuts of the trail light assembly. This is on the RAV4 2017 Hybrid Limited. I can not figure it out. Would it be possible at all the add a followup video showing how to remove the/replace the tail light assembly on the RAV4 2017 Hybrid Limited?

    Does anyone know how to make sure the waterproofing rubber skirt between the light and window not going to be folded underneath the rear inner light after installation? I can’t make the rubber seal go over my new rear inner light after installation. Is it because the part I bought is not genuine? Thanks!

    I watched your video so I could change my tailgate light assembly. The bolts on the outside of the tailgate are covered up by the insulation trim for the door and a black frame that holds it on. I tried to take the bolts of that off but the just seem to spin and not get any looser. You did not show how to expose the outside bolts. Could you give me some guidance?

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  6 років тому

      Michelle, What year is your vehicle? The 2017 model I did this work on had exposed bolts on the edge of the tailgate without a trim piece. There could be subtle differences even in the different trim levels of the same year. Toyota might have also changed the design of specific parts between the years too.

    I have a Rav4 (2015). I can change my taillights to the model (2016-18).
    The reverse of 2016-18 is down in the rear bumper and in 2015 it is up, next to the parking, brake, directional.
    Another question:
    In the same way the front 2013-2015 can be replaced? for 2016-18.

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  5 років тому

      Hey Vesh,
      If the lights are seperated, you will have to do the same. You will have a lot more work ahead of you to change the style of the lights. I do not know what you would have to do for a conversion. I would guess that you have some electrical plugs to change, wiring to route and testing of the system when you're all done.
      Its typical for manufacturers to 'referesh' a style by changing bumpers and lights on their model cars. It appears that these tail lights are the same shape and likely have the same 'base' where they changed the lenses and light design. You should be able to follow the video to remove the earlier version taillights.
      Good luck!

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  5 років тому +1

      I don't know Allan, I haven't had to replace that yet. I imagine you would need to remove the rear bumper cover to access those lights. They might have a screw or two holding them in on the back side of the bumper cover.

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  6 років тому

      The tail lights were broken, but the bulbs and harness were okay so they didn't need to be replaced. If you need to change one of the bulbs, you can do that by pulling the bulb straight out and replacing it by pushing a new one directly back in.

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  4 роки тому +2

      Whoa. No. When manufacturers do visual updates like they did with the RAV4, they will also often times change mounts, locations, wiring harnesses and a whole host of other hidden things. The lights themselves from what I could tell with a limited internet search have a similar bolt mounting scheme. I do not know if the harnesses are the same or can interchange. I know nothing about any other parts of the RAV4. If you want to swap other panels, that is something you should do your own research on.

    Awesome video bro! Maybe someone can help me though? I got the 2 pieces for the passenger side done and the outer piece of the driver side done but can't get the driver inside piece off. I removed all the nuts but it seems stuck somewhere in the center even with that nut off. I tried hitting it but didnt help. Any ideas?

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  5 років тому +1

      I wouldn't have thought the drivers side would have been different! Can you tell where it is being held up at by moving the lens around? There could be another nut holding the assembly on. Did you get the hard to reach nut closest to the center off? It would require you to move your hand in an unnatural direction, but there is one towards the center.

    • @bsiese
      @bsiese 5 років тому

      @@ChillDude01 yeah I got the hard to reach one. That's where the hangup is happening. I removed that nut so I know that's not the issue. I wonder if its rusty or something on the inside somewhere? It just seems locked down in that area?

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  5 років тому

      @@bsiese Are you doing a replacement on the lens? Does the replacement have a second nut somewhere else? If you're going to replace it, I would be inclined to break it off if you could. However once you do that, you're pretty committed to removing anything stuck on there.

    • @bsiese
      @bsiese 5 років тому

      @@ChillDude01 yeah I've been yanking on the lens pretty good! I'm committed to breaking it if I have too! It just wont come off lol. I'll take another look at it today and update you on how it goes.

    • @ChillDude01
      @ChillDude01  5 років тому

      @@bsiese Good luck! Take a look at your new one and see if there is a second stud where a nut could be hiding. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't make them identical from left to right to fit things inside of the hatch door.

    Had burned out bulb (Sylvania 7443) in 2017 RAV4 taillight.
    2 bulb pack, at Advance Auto, over 11 bucks!!!!
    Highway robbery. I told the wife, if I had the time, I'd rewire
    for the old standard 12 v bulbs which would probably last
    just as long at a fraction of the price.
    If they keep creating dollars out of thin air in the trillions,
    the dollar isn't going to be worth ten cents, and those bulbs
    will be 100 bucks a pack.
