Back in the late 50s, early 60s my stepfather managed the Baxters Butchers shop in High St and I went out on the delivery van on Saturday (I was still at school). It was a nice quiet area, poor but tidy. To show how safe it was If I worked in the shop in the school holidays one of my tasks would be to take the days takings to the bank in central Gloucester on the shop delivery bike. Never a problem.
Thanks for sharing that, Rob, that's interesting. I can't speak for what it was like then, you'd know, but I think areas like this are - or feel - much safer when you live or work there, especially if you know some of the local characters.
It used to be a nice street back in the 70’s and 80’s too, nice local shops and friendly people and they always had the Tredworth Road Race start in High St, it’s all now sadly ruined, I don’t drive down there unless necessary, it’s too stressful with too many cars and no room to pass in parts plus the shops are just mostly fronts for other trades
I was born and raised in Ryecroft St. and the bottom end of the High St. It was a nice growing up in the 70s and 80’s as I used it most days. I still go down it on occasion, but mostly try to avoid it due to its decline over the years.
I worked at the chip shop which is now Sams' Pizza and Kebab around 30 years ago. At that time there was a public toilet across the road but that is now houses.
Where the car mounted the kerb, one time I recall a lady in a car coming one way from the Ryecroft Street end and a car full of African Americans coming the other way into a pinch point. The lady was there first but the car full of big men decided they weren't going to give way. Following a tense standoff the car with the gentlemen of colour drove forward, smashed into the lady's car head on, reversed and mounted the pavement outside Seymours and drove on it's way. Poor woman. Typical for the area. I grew up up the road from High Street :(
I walked down it with my mum a few weeks ago as there was a cheap house for sale, it reminded me a lot of east Bristol 15 years ago lol ie Stapleton road area, not the nicest
I was born there and lived there until I was 8, then luckily my parents decided to move up to London. I still got family who live there but it's a shit hole of a place.
Salaam. It's not a bad area, you do get the odd car window being smashed and a few drunk ppl walking through at night. Parking can be an issue. If you don't mind Afghans and Roma walking around.
I’m from Essex but was on a job in Gloucester back in the early 90’s and saw a big punch up at the end of High St where you first turned in. I was in a corner shop, a iron mongers DIY shop that was run by a nice Muslim family. Three cars stopped outside the shop who was havin a bit of bother, two cars full of blacks and a car with two white lads. I saw the biggest punch I’ve ever seen. One of the white lads was American and he was fighting two at a time and winning, the other white lad was trying to stop more of that blacks from jumping in. In the end the Muslim brothers from the shop ran out to make sure it was a fair fight, the American laid into the two he was fighting and beat both. He knocked the one spark out and other black kid gave in so about 5 blacks pulled the American off but they didn’t fight him. Don’t know if that was out of respect, or if they didn’t want to be next. I was in Gloucester for a month and seen a few punch ups but that was the most amazing thing I ever seen. Not surprised that area is run down, it wasn’t very safe back then.
Would anyone know 'Kerry Harris' that lives in Gloucester area, large lady with glasses in her 60's, many locals to the area posting here, just a chance. She is on FB but not answering messages.
Unfortunately not, I’m sorry it bothers you though! Background music is commonly added to video as it’s proven to enhance engagement, and personally I couldn’t watch something like this with silence in between the narration so I get it.

If you think the High Street is bad, you should have carried a bit further on and had a look at Barton Street 😅
We did a video on Barton Street too - ua-cam.com/video/YuL3l42Gwsg/v-deo.html - that's a wild road at night!
I worked at the chip shop which is now Sams' Pizza and Kebab around 30 years ago. At that time there was a public toilet across the road but that is now houses.
Glad to hear you survived. 😀
That burned out house had been left like that for a pretty long time with a notice of abandonment so I definitely doubt the insurance possibility

That's pretty wild, and I hope it wasn't too traumatising for her!
diversity at it's best...the ignorant and dangerous allowed to do what they want.
calling them African-Americans is hilarious to me.. ahaha
@@MokuTomThat was my thought. “African Americans” 🤭🤣🤣
Lived there as a kid 70’s . Wouldn’t even consider walking down there now. Horrendous
I was doing a driving lesson last month, saw the OneStop and immediately knew where I was, thought about the burglaries
I walked down it with my mum a few weeks ago as there was a cheap house for sale, it reminded me a lot of east Bristol 15 years ago lol ie Stapleton road area, not the nicest
It must be so horrible for the people that are born living there and maybe stuck through growing up

I'm from Gloucester, that's tredworth.
Used to have Sammy's kebab shop at the end. Best kebab I've ever had. 30 years ago
Wow, that’s quite the statement!
Tredworth. 50 years ago it was not a bad place. Where my dad came from (Ducie St.)
Yeah. All the stories from other generations about places being safer, leaving doors unlocked, etc, it’s all true isn’t it.
definitely a lit blunt. What's my prize?
Congratulations, you’re right! You win a free tour and overnight stay on High Street.
I have watched various videos from a few channels but none of them cover the north west. Come to Lancashire and Merseyside plenty of content here :)
Now you mention it, I don’t see many channels going deep into those areas outside of Blackpool, good point.
@@ukexplored Thank you for replying and I absolutely love your channel. Keep up the good work.
I did- amasing place. Beautiful community
This is one of many in England today , have you just woke up out of a coma 😴 😬 😳
Who else remembers the Macaw in Hi-Pets?
Was he a local celebrity that swore at people?🦜😂
I do. I used to deliver to Chris, the owner.
How about Howard street in Tredworth ? Is it a safe place to live there with kids ?
Salaam. It's not a bad area, you do get the odd car window being smashed and a few drunk ppl walking through at night. Parking can be an issue. If you don't mind Afghans and Roma walking around.
I used to live there it’s just a road down from the high street and it’s safe just be street aware
Talk quitely mumble and play louder music over the top ? Cracking idea.
I'm new to this; appreciate the feedback, I'm always trying to improve and will adjust the levels in the future.

Do you think it's possible for you to put these videos up without the annoying useless background music?
Unfortunately not, I’m sorry it bothers you though!

That's Tredworth, Tredworth High Street..... Not Gloucester High Street, you are mis informing people...
Misinforming how? It’s High St in Gloucester; if you type Gloucester High St into a sat nav, this is exactly where you’ll end up.
