- Our road trip took an unexpected turn when we were involved in a car accident just outside the city of Oulu in northern Finland. Although we weren't at fault, the incident became a pivotal moment in our journey.
Honestly, the emotional toll was significant, and it took us some time to process everything before we could share this experience with you. Watch our journey unfold as we navigate this challenging episode and decide whether to continue our adventure. It was a hell of an experience...

Everyone who hasn't lived up north always admire our midnight sun. That what you just saw is one of the downsides of it, because Finland is very flat country and the midnight sun will blind you when it's near the treetops. So many accidents happen because of that and it seems that's the case here as well.
Yeah... it wasn't really a midnight sun but was definitely blinding...
@@LiraNeo2023 Point is, when the sun is low, it's around nighttime anyway. Tired drivers + blinding sun isn't a joke. Glad your case wasn't any worse.
Good that you are ok. There's a saying about that kind of situations that you can buy new metal with money, but not people.
I love this saying, we were so glad no one was injured, that's all that matters.
@@LiraNeo2023you did well!
As a rule! If you get into an accident. Even small ones. Always go to a hospital and do a check. And document/tell them even the slightest pain you have. That can even after 1-2 years lead to compensation. But if its not recorded at the time they will just tell you that the pain dont necesary comes from that accident!
This. If something comes up later, without the check it's now your own problem.
I see... guess it's too late to do that now
@@LiraNeo2023 did insurance agent say that go car check/insurance check up so you get right compensation.. and if there is real peoblems whit car safety or hidden damages.. and those electrik wires looks like parking sensor wires no need to duck tape bumber water still says out just tape electrik wires tops and all is good
Those two cars behind you did a typical mistake by driving too close behind you and therefore had not enough time to react to your breaking. Rules are 80km/h you stay 80m from the car infront of you. 100km/h you stay 100m ehind car in front of you.
I personally use the seconds rule. I will stay at minimum 4 seconds behind car in front never any closer. 4 seconds is enough to react, brake and come to stop from 100km/h speed.
Keeping your distance is important. The sun can be blinding especially if your windscreen is scratched / dirty.
True, the sun was no joke!
Well its one of the best countries in the world to have an accident ;D Everything will just be ok. Police and ambulance people are there to help, not to scam :D
That bumper plastic is just cosmetics, no need to worry about it.
Sunset/sunrise are both annoying for the same reason when driving, someone is always blinded by the sun. Night driving can feel almost magical, mist and beautiful country roads are really something. Have to be more careful about animals though, it is very common to see moose near roads in the night.
Yeah, the bumpers were actaully no big deal. The damaged parking censor was not that important anyway. About driving at night, we usually avoid driving after dark.
@@LiraNeo2023 I wouldn't know but the other wires/plug looks like it's there in case a trailer hook is installed. Trailers need power for tail lights and blinkers and for brakes if it has them.
I guess you didn't tape the parking sensor back in its original place?
4:28 "car got injured" and 5:58 " glue the particles" you are so funny!😄
Omg, that was really a challenge for the trip! But fortunately, no one was injured.
It was almost like a turning point for the trip.
Something I’ve noticed driving in Finland is that drivers rarely keep their distance. Personally I’m quite pathological about the 2 second rule but in Finland it seems you’re not driving properly if you can still see the bottom of the bumper of the car in front of you. I don’t know where this driving style is learned; my wife did her lessons and test here and she never drives like this but for me it’s a constant occurrence. Hopefully you guys and the other drivers/passengers are okay.
I know, and the drivers write text messages etc. too. I personally keep my distance.
Whenever you drive so much, stuff like this will eventually happen.
Haha...that's so true...
Those two Volvos drove too close together and did not keep a safe distance, typical issue in finland. Glad you both are OK.
Really? Is it a common in Finland? Yeah those two cars were close, but none of us was driving fast at all...
@@LiraNeo2023 Yes. I can confirm that driving too close together is one of the biggest traffic issues in Finland. You should always keep good distance to the car infront of you, so you have more time to react all those surprising situations on the road.
Especially during major holidays like Midsummer there's lot of traffic and lot of amateur drivers on the roads driving long distances and people often fail to keep enough distance to the car in front.
@@LiraNeo2023 : Traffic accidents in itself are not "common" in Finland, ie. the roads are generally safer than most countries.
But when accidents happen, this kind of fender-benders in cars driving in a too closely packed queue are typical.
As far as road accidents go this is one of the best cases; no one seriously injured and you were even able to continue driving your car before taking it in for repairs.
Driving too close is not the issue. Issue is that driving skills of people has gone down because all of the safety features of cars and simply because people don't adapt to driving conditions. If there is sun use sun visor or sunglasses and if it is slippery drive slower and so on, common sense but people trust that the cars with cameras and traction control and what ever will do the driving for you
This is exactly why we tell people to keep the safety distance. Drivers should listen, but unfortunately most people in Finland think that nothing can happen on the road.
❤❤So happy you are ok and everybody else too. I hope you'll have a great and safe journey and nice memories and stories to tell❤. All the best and love from Finland.
Thank you so much, Finland is such a lovely place!!!
An unfortunate event. There was one small mistake in the video. 6:49 The Biltema store parking was filmed in Kokkola.
Oh yeah, thanks for pointing it out, I think it was in Kokkola indeed, we were on our way to Vaasa.
Bumper is just plastic, easy to replace, sensors might be damaged and need of replacement. Rear trunk lid needs replacement. Mostly just cosmetic damage nothing major, they wouldnt have let you drive with it if it was too much damaged. Those two Volvo's are scrap now, they wont be driven again, either too old to repair (black car) or too much damaged (white car).
In modern cars quite often if the airbags trigger it's a write-off. You have to dismantle the whole dashboard section and cabin linings to fix just the airbags properly and that alone is hugely expensive because of how dashes are usually installed.
But of course the white car has the structural frame bent and engine compartment compressed in etc etc, so it's quite a clear case.
@@JariJuslin Depends what airbags deployed. Most modern cars have pyro fuse that breaks up when airbags deploy, depending on where it is, really not fun to replace.
4:50 The broken parts seem to be parking sensors only. As long as the exhaust wasn't damaged so bad that exhaust fumes could get into the car (you would smell it) there's nothing to worry with this little damage. The hole in the plastic bumper is just visual stuff. If you have a hole in the plastic parts, it might increase air resistance a bit but that part of the car will get wet both sides of the plastic bumper while driving in the rain so the hole isn't important at all.
Wow, thanks for explaining it. We thought it was okay to keep driving, now we feel more comfortable for sure!
Слава богу, что все обошлось благополучно. А вы молодцы, сохраняли спокойствие и рассудительность😊
In Finland - Duck Tape IS called Jeesus Tape - that IS Jesus Tape - in English !
*Duct tape.
HAHA Jesus!
@@LiraNeo2023 Because it fixes everything! 😄
Nice video! An incredible journey with incredible experiences! Life should be so colorful !🎉🎉❤
haha it was really unepected...
Yeah getting into an accident in a foreign country must be a nightmare, not knowing how to deal with the issue.
Hope everything went well!
Yeah everything turned out okay, really nothing to complain -- everyone involved was calm and reasonable.
So happy that you are ok 🙏🏼❤️
Those two cars look really scary and hope people will be more careful on the road.
Thank god no one was seriously injured...
As an fin I would say perkele saatana opi ajamaan ❤
To whom?
Good that you are OK, enjoy the Finnish Summer
i am a news photographer in Oulu, very intresting to see that the youtube is recommend this channel to me that i have get a same 112 news alert in my phone in that accident real time where you have been but hope you have a great time in oulu! - these kind of crash on that road is not normal.. it is very very rear
Wow, I could tell it was kind of rare because they had to block the road and redirect traffic...Thanks, we enjoyed Oulu regardless.
Always keep safe distance, even if some idiot is trying to push you from behind. Amateur drivers use breaks on straight roads even if a moose is not jumping in front of them. Safe travels!
Thanks! You just cant expect the unexpected right?
Glad you are okay! Also, very impressive duckttape fixing on the car! :)
Haha thanks, that's the best we could do...
Oh, I know that guy! A friend of mine who works as a paramedic in Northern Finland is the one on right at 3:42.
Really??! What a small world! Please send our regards to him. He was really helpful.

Вы молодцы!
Please censor the licence plates, as you can find the owner's info by just knowing those.
why?
@@pyroslavia9499 In Finland you might be charged for leaking license plates in accidents etc, why? no idea, but police always tells everyone to not post accident videos, or even videos where someone acts stupid in traffic, without censoring, or even if you can in any way identify anyone in them..
Good call, I already updated the video!
Oulu isn't in northern Finland, it's more like in the middle.
Sorry but no, Jyväskylä is in the middle and maybe even Kuopio, but not Oulu.
@@MsBestPilotEverSorry but yes, if you draw a straight line from Hanko to Nuorgam ( south tip to north tip), watch which one is closer to the middle Oulu or Jyväskylä (or Kuopio)?
