Hey guys! Thanks for all the interest in this engine build from us. It’s awesome to see enthusiasts enjoying high revving road course/ track inspired engine builds on these cars. If you are interested in getting the N55r26 spec engine built, please email us on the website at 4nmotorsport.com For those asking, we can build the 2.6L 9Krpm combo for you across all N5x series engines including the S55 engine. A note for N54 guys, Factory MSD80/81 DME is still restricted on the N54 to 8,200rpms. You would need a standalone like MaxxECU to reach 9K rpms.
The N55 is the best choice for a turbo E9x engine. I love the N54, had one in an 07 335i from new (Euro Delivery, CTO, the lot), and enjoyed it dearly, but the N55 was just as good for street driving and almost as reliable as the N52 - which in my opinion is the best NA 6 BMW ever made.
I dont think anyone "sleeps" on N55s. I remember them being insanely popular before the release of the b58. But now with b58s and S55s being more attainable than they once were i think the N55 is falling out of the spotlight. However now im thinking someone should do this kit to an f87 m2
I just picked up a well maintained 2013 335xi with 155k on the clock. Did an oil change, and have driven 4k miles w no issues. If you do the work by yourself it’s really not so bad
FCPEuro makes maintenance relatively cheap. Buy it once(Belts, oil, filters, coils, spark plugs, etc) and it's a lifetime warranty even on consumables.
Own a 2011 335xi, and can confirm the two comments prior to me Best piece of advice is know how old your common/major failure point is are, and have money planned to cover things when they need replacement. Other than that, if you like cussing at things, it's not that bad.
@@MeijaJanis nope, the N55 is twin-turbo. And even so, the difference between single-turbo and twin-turbo is barely noticeable, there are much more important factors which affect sound. The S55 sounds way worse than the N55 for example, and they're both twin-turbo. And the N55 doesn't necessarily sound worse than the B58, which is single-turbo. Finally you can compensate, because like I said there are more important factors when it comes to sound. You've got loads of twin-turbo Mustangs which sound way better than the stock one for example. And the turbo spool sound in itself is something many people love so even if there's a difference it might be worth it.
@@Capz0r hmm my bad, it looks like auto-data which I take my info from doesn't have the correct data. The E82 135i is shown as having an N55 and twin-turbo which is impossible since it's a 2007 car (N55 was released in 2009). Thanks for the correction.
@@xIcarus227 you are wrong here. N55 uses a twinscroll turbo with a single manifold that feeds all 6 cylinders to 1 turbo. The S55 uses 2 mono scroll turbos that feed each turbo individually. B58 is as well single turbo, hence the better sound. regarding twin turbo mustangs. they are v8`s with aftermarket turbo setup, since there are no such things from factory. each bank has turbo, which means both manifolds and exhausts are identical, so sound is not 'broken' by unequal lenght setup.
De-stroking an engine is always exciting. You may lose some mid range torque but u get naturally higher revs with a f1-like high pitched sound. And you could always replace mid range power with appropriate mods and clever tuning.
Very interesting. The N55 is plenty available, comes in a lot of interesting chassis and is also mated to manual transmissions. A very interesting market.
Holy fucking shit… This is like legit one of the best sounding cars on the planet! And that is saying more than words can describe! I am in utter awe right now…

@@fredfrederickson No. Perhaps you, or he, don’t understand that you can’t have a naturally aspirated power band in a forced induction powerplant.
