    I keep coming back to the zoom H2 sounds great as a desktop microphone

    You have just solved one of the most frustrating problems I have ever had.
    I got the smartlav for work and it didn't work with the Zoom H2N. I was so baffled as to why. No where online did it mention about needing an adapter to work with the H2N.
    Going to order this adapter and hopefully it solves all these issues I'd been having.

    Thanks for the review mate, you saved me a lot of hassle by showing how to record with a lav-mic and the built in stuff at the same time. Keep it up!

    Came here to see how it performed with an external mic... I love the H2n. My only issue was the tripod mount broke and crumbled away.... Not sure why they opted to make it plastic instead of metal. Either way, it's a great mic!

    Nice little recorder, I am using this for lav and ambience and the H5 for run & gun.

    Hi! Not sure if you're going to read this. I can hear a little bit of a rumble during the narration. Was that just you laptop or the microphone's self-noise?

    Só could you do an Interview with two persons, like one speaking into the small mic the other in the h2n?

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, that would work, ideally you'd set it to 4CH mode so that each mic is recorded on separate tracks, you could then easily adjust the levels and EQ of each person separately when editing

      I'm not really an expert with lav mics having only ever owned two of them so you'd probably be best to look up other reviews and tests. Realistically any lav with a 3.5mm jack will be fine. They'll either use "plug in power" where the H2n feeds power to the mic or the mic will include a battery pack. Only thing to watch out is lavs designed for smartphones (there will be 3 lines on the plug rather than 1 or 2 on a normal mic) - these will require a small adapter to work with a recorder such as the H2n.

      Yeah, a combination of work commitments and going on holiday for a week (and not leaving enough time to get this video out before then) meant things got somewhat delayed. Don't worry, loads more videos in the pipeline!

    Hello thanks for a nice review.If I want to input my voice via Zoom H2N into DSLR, is it possible with H2N? I have a Nikon D 850

    • @camerongray1515

      You could technically connect the line out of the zoom into the camera but you'd generally be better of just getting a standalone mic if that is your use case.

    I'm rather disappointed by quality of the external microphone. It doesn't seem that it was worth the price tag of 50 pounds, maybe 20-30 or so. But of course it is still useable for your videos and the great content you create. Thumbs up :)

      I think a fair bit of it is due to the editing, this was the first time I'd edited video using audio in this way. I've been able to get it sounding a lot better with a bit of equalization and compression. I'd also managed to mess up by exporting the video with a different audio sample rate from what it was captured as, exporting at the same sample rate as the recording also makes it sound a lot better!

    How do you use the lav mic, I connect it, but it is not recording from it

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  5 років тому +2

      When the lav is connected it takes place of the XY microphone so if you set the recorder to record the XY microphone or 4ch then it will record from the lav mic. If you aren't getting any sound, check if your lav mic requires power as you may need to enable the "Plug in power" option in the H2n settings.

      @@camerongray1515 Thanks so much. It works. Does it work on 2ch as well? Also what is the difference between 4ch, 2ch and xy?

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  5 років тому +2

      MS will record only the MS microphone, XY will only record the XY microphone (or an external mic if one is plugged in), 4ch will record both the MS and XY (or external) microphones to separate files (one for XY, one for MS), 2ch will record both MS and XY (or external) mixed down to a single stereo file.

    So instead of spending $160 pounds... you spend more on a lav + H2n?

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  4 роки тому +3

      Yes, while the Zoom and Lav was more expensive than the Sony Bluetooth system but is also a significantly more versatile option and isn't restricted to a single camera. I can use it with other cameras or as a standalone audio recorder which for me is worth the additional cost versus spending £160 on a proprietary microphone which will only work with my current camera. I'm also not 100% sure about the quality of the microphone built into the Sony adapter so I might have had to buy a Lav mic on top of the Sony Bluetooth system in order to get the quality I wanted.

      @@camerongray1515 that's a fair point actually, I stumbled on your video because I'm looking for a LAV. But I've dropped my H2N that many times I think the mics are broken. It produces this horrible crackling noise even with a nice mic attached... No idea haha

  • @phecez
    @phecez 7 років тому

    i've got an H2N also ... have you any reservations about the plasticky quality of especially the play toggle? sound quality is great for the price, i'm just counting the days until the odd power switch dies.

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515  7 років тому +1

      I'd have much rather it had more metal in the construction but it's not too bad, ultimately I ended up picking it purely based on the functionality for the price. That said, I've taken it apart (of course!) and it's pretty nicely put together so I wouldn't be too concerned about it wearing out although I wouldn't like to be throwing this around or dropping it! Tempted to do a teardown video of it at some point, just need to figure out a way of recording audio for the video if I'm taking my audio recorder apart!
