I saw him in Detroit in 1970 and except for Your Song playing on the radio nobody was familiar with him or his music. I had gone to the concert to see a band called If. Elton put on a brilliant show and I remember the audience giving him standing ovations in the MIDDLE of songs. I couldn't believe that just three musicians could create so much drama and sound. By the end of the concert I knew he was going to be a big star.
@@generalkenobi2126 Totally! mona lisas & mad hatters gives me chills every time! Also 'this song has no title' from yellow brick road...most underrated song
Dee Murray on Bass and Nigel Olsson on Drums were masterful musicians.....They were incredible fixtures in Elton's sound from the very start.....without them he would have never been what he became.....
Nigel Olssen has been playing with Elton for over 50 years now (!). Like Dee Murray, he was previously a member of the Spencer Davis Group. Dee Murray sadly died in 1992, aged 45.
Possible broadcast date: 22 May 1970. I think there's another version of this performance - an outtake (possibly due to technical problems, or to have more content recorded). For whatever reason, the orchestra are not featured in this song, despite being present in the others. It also cuts a verse.
TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION ... MY 1ST HIT OF ELTON DOING BERNIE TAUPINS LYRICS .. HIS 1ST 3 ALBUMS .. HIS BEST!
Excellent aĺbum
I love everything he's done, but his early stuff is my favorite.
i like his later work but i wouldn’t put it in a playlist and listen to it. his early work is gold
Absolutely the early music and songs.
this song and this LP are what EJ is all about... perfection

Then Davey Johnstone joined and Elton had the perfect group
I love that little grin he shows before ripping up the piano; it's like, "I can handle this stuff no problem". Great piano player.
So much sound from three guys.

Mine too A EXCELLENT SONGS....
Nigel olsen such an underrated drummer
Madman Across The Water is regarded as Elton's greatest work and I do love it, but for me Tumbleweed Connection has always been my favorite.
Elton at his peak between 70 and 80: the voice, the melodies..then he's still a brilliant piano player
He still is today! 😮😢😊 Too bad that he is not touring no more...looking forward to his new album thou....
Play that piano 🎹 Elton! 🎉 .....He was vibing to his own music and having fun back in the day.... 😊
Played this in the UK where so many rebels tried to improve their lot by literally burning the “Keep” takes courage. Beautifully done.
