- In 1970, the BBC broadcast the TV special, Elton John in Concert. The show featured impressive live renditions of songs that would go on to become classics from Elton’s music catalogue, including this version of ‘Burn Down The Mission’. The track is taken from the Tumbleweed Connection album, also released that same year.

I love everything he's done, but his early stuff is my favorite.
i like his later work but i wouldn’t put it in a playlist and listen to it. his early work is gold
Absolutely the early music and songs.
I saw him in Detroit in 1970 and except for Your Song playing on the radio nobody was familiar with him or his music. I had gone to the concert to see a band called If. Elton put on a brilliant show and I remember the audience giving him standing ovations in the MIDDLE of songs. I couldn't believe that just three musicians could create so much drama and sound. By the end of the concert I knew he was going to be a big star.

By the late 70's Elton had lost me as someone who would buy his albums but up till that point, *DAMN, WHATTA RIDE*
Dee Murray on Bass and Nigel Olsson on Drums were masterful musicians.....They were incredible fixtures in Elton's sound from the very start.....without them he would have never been what he became.....
Then Davey Johnstone joined and Elton had the perfect group

Nigel Olssen has been playing with Elton for over 50 years now (!). Like Dee Murray, he was previously a member of the Spencer Davis Group. Dee Murray sadly died in 1992, aged 45.

I think there's another version of this performance - an outtake (possibly due to technical problems, or to have more content recorded).
For whatever reason, the orchestra are not featured in this song, despite being present in the others. It also cuts a verse.
