It could help tackle loneliness in our elderly because when you hear horrific stories of carers harming vulnerable elderly people it’s sickening yeah they do deserve human connection I do agree but it might help them
I have no problem with this. I think it would be a good idea for many aging and/or disabled people. I hope there will be technology like this when/if I reach my elderly days.
I think in a similar way why some of us would turn on the tv just for background noise while we work, it's sense of not being alone that goes a long way. It would be nice for elderly I think to have a robot that can be around and just do "small talks" with them, so they would feel less lonely.
I'm happy that elder people are no more need to worry about their life please i request to all doctors and scientists to invent more robots in every place. so humans can enjoy their life without worrying.
I would take a robot anytime especially as they become better programmed for home health care. Far too many times you hear absolute horror stories in the US of elderly patients who are physically and mentally abused by home health care or nursing home personnel who are extremely low paid and many times without background checks. A robot might in essence not have human emotions but is that a bad thing when your not sure of the very people who are supposed to be helping you. I am 76 years of age and I would definitely consider a robot as a part of my home health care assistance. Japan has had robots for years because of their every growing elderly population.
It's very charming the way the elderly gentleman interacts with the robot. He's clearly just going along with a bit of fun. It's a terrible insult to humanity that scientists can say that " of course . . ." the "robot doesn't form a relationship with the human . . .", ". . . it's just a machine". This sort of statement degrades humans , whether old or young to soulless "automatons"!
Humans are very sentimental and social, I talk to my dog a lot, and to me that means something and that's all that matters, even if he doesn't understand me
I am doing a dissertation on this topic. I just want to say that Social Robots are not to take over human interaction but to work alongside healthcare professionals. There will still be visits from health care professionals and also they will collect data on how the elderly are interacting with the Social robots. Imagine if we had another pandemic again which will happen at some point, next time we can be more prepared. The use of these can convert a great area of telecommunications with G.P and other professions, music therapy, Memory box and even groups Dementia all engaging together. Also, Social robots can be used to prompt for food and drink and help remember medication. It will definitely be the way forward to improve the quality of care.
It would be an improvement. I'm not kidding. People are abusing the old people. Even though it is not human it will give attention 24/7. If ever there was a good use for these things it's this. ps, I'm old.
I'm working on this exact project, I believe that a robot helper could be a huge benefit to the elderly, to complete tasks and from a safety point of view. I'm concerned when robots are used to combat loneliness, I strongly believe that they should help them remember past loves, help keep the memory alive, not replace them, a robot is a tool, a highly effective tool, but a tool, nothing more. a robot is capable of many incredible things and I'm all for making this possible, but a robot is a car, a toaster, a phone. love cannot be programed.
It's a machine. It's not a companion. It has no feelings. It has no thoughts. It's just a programmed machine. It is not human. It does not know love. It does not know touch. It does not know feelings. It's a machine.
So sad that it's the kind of solution we think of for people who have dedicated their lives to working and caring for others and are now destined for loneliness or at most a robot that can't really care about them
Imagine at the end of your life having only a robot to "care" about you... I believe they can help with many tasks, but we humans need someone who cares at least a little bit for us and understand what it is to be a human.
@@cubegaming7157humans already leave faith from this world this is good for elder people because màny youth dont want parents to live with them even one of my neighbour kick his parents from home for not working properly so you still prefer humans than robots

Eventually robots will take over even more complicated nursing tasks. In the long run, it's probably cheaper to replace both nurses and carers with robots.
If the government would bring a robot into the room of a loved one ,that would be crossing a red line. The government would soon realize there mistake.
Some people don’t have children or they live in different states, have children of their own, disabled children, etc. that doesn’t mean peoples children or grandchildren don’t see them or help them. It’s just they can’t be there all the time. Now my one grandma is very lonely and is now having trouble walking and stuff so I’m not half and half living with her to help her and keep her less lonely. Plus I love her and want to spend time with her and keep her safe. My aunt(her daughter has a child with a disability and lives out of state) but she comes and stays a week every few months still, calls her every day, and our whole family video chat/call with her every day.
I do agree tho there are a lot of children and grandkids that are shitty and don’t think about their mom, dad, grandma, granddad. Like they should and it’s so sad
Hey . Pepper where is Grandpa? He’s in the trunk. What do you mean? You told me to take care of him. You know ! Capice?! He’s been taken care of. No more worries.
What a horrific idea. Today I saw a contribution by Mark Easton about "pepper the robot" in a care home, supposedly listening to a gentleman talking about his experiences in WW2. Then a "scientist" came on saying that it was not important whether the robot listened to people, but that the robot appeared to care about people. Isn't this what our government and social care is all about. It doesn't matter that authority doesn't care about people as long as they can keep up the charade of "appearing" to care about people!?
Ideally the robot would do things like lifting people up or carrying them or brining in food I mean their family visits them and they have other people in the care facility to interact with it’s not like he’s isolated
@@GustavoRodriguez-qr5po yes, you are correct. But think about the future implications. It is possible that children will lessen their visits. And think about how the next generation will view this? Do we want our children to believe this is normal?
I worry this would deprive our elders of human connection in their later years. Robotics can be helpful but there isn't any substitute for the connection between living, breathing people.
DianaandherGuitar I don't see why it should just be them and the robot by themselves. a) the robots are expensive so would probably look after groups b) no reason why they can't connect to facebook and invite other people round!
JamieCurrant you make a good point, as far as caring for groups. I know elders are neglected as is, so I have hesitations, but I'd give it a chance. No robot can replace a real person. It's just a toy that will soon get bored when a person wants to feel the real care, see a truthful smile, feel human support. Creating a robot to take care of the elderly is the height of disrespect for the older generation.
No. The height of disrespect for them is a complete lack of care for them, or even abuse. A robot can't replace a person, but they are better than nothing. And at least you don't have to worry about abuse from them.
It makes me sad we need robots to be empathic? Robots by definition do not care, its a fake humanoid pretending to care? id rather have a real person who is abusive than a dancing robot?
I mean it's an illusion, if u want to believe the robot truly cares for u for long enough u'll probably end up thinking it does, even if it doesn't. But having an abusive person around u can be way for dangerous and terrible for the elderly since many of them are vulnerable
