Finally got my tape out thanks to you. I had a stuck one and it was a bit different mechanism but thanks to seeing how you did it I was patient and kept rotating the mechanism to get it out. Thank you thank you!
Some of these VCR's they make it so hard to get to the mode switch and it drives me nuts. I find the best thing that cleans these up is using some metal polish to remove the silver oxide then wipe them down with a conservative amount of WD40 and they never go bad again. This works for any switch with silver plated contacts and is 10x better than any contact cleaner you can buy these days.
Oh, i almost always use a solder sucker. Just what i got used too. Have you checked out that big auction site though. 5' of solder wick in various sizes for under a buck out of china.
Another great video. I learned a lot from this. I have a JVC DR-MV150 DVD/VCR that eats the tape. I will look for this type of mode switch but first have to get a soldering kit.
@@12voltvids Alright I cleaned the switch with contact cleaner and put it back in, I'm pretty sure the timing mark is correct as I could only install the switch one way. Now the system is refusing to do anything and flushing the STOP, PLAY, and REWIND buttons. I hear a click when I power it on but nothing else. I'm pretty sure the mode switch and the mode control motor are plugged into the camcorder. I've got a service manual for the PAL model which includes a wiring diagram and schematic it's very helpful, but I can't figure out what the problem is. I'm only spending my time on this one because it's the BTTF camera and it has a working tube
Hi there, awesome video.. I followed your instruction and cleaned the mode switch, however my problem persists. I have now concluded that the idler does not move at all. I find it in the position i left it when i inserted the tape. If i move it to the left it will perform rew function, and to the right it plays and fwd as it should, but only if i move it to the position manually. It also leaves tapen inside that gets stuck when ejecting the tape so yeah it eats tape too.. What can be the problem? Got a JVC HR-D830EH that looks 90% same as yours... It's driving me CRAZY :D
My cassette is stuck in a Zenith TV that plays VHSC Tapes. It will not eject. I just purchased the cassette that holds the VHSC tape. Do I take the bottom off the TV? I am 88 and female. The tape played and has re-round, when I go to eject it, the front flap comes up like it is going to eject, but it does not eject.
I have a problem with a similar JVC video recorder. The orange/brown belt on the underside keeps popping off when rewind hits the beginning of the tape. Do you know where to buy a replacement belt?
I know this is a silly question but the drive belts and pully belts, where do you get yours for that specific part number/ model machine? I know ebay carries some but where would I get the belts? I have a Fry's electronic store that carrry's a lot of things but I'd need to know what reference to go to in order to get the right belt kit. How or where do you record the bar tape?
I can't remember the name of the website but I found some by just googling "Toshiba VCR belts". Don't type in the specific model number, just the brand and then put your Sherlock Holmes hat on. It's frustrating to say the least. I've also gotten some from eBay, Amazon, and a site called westcoastbelts.com
Hoping you see this as this is an old video but I'm wondering, is it a bad practice to use one of the fiberglass pens to clean the mode switch in addition to deoxit and isopropyl alcohol? Some of the machines I've been I've been fixing have been neglected for years!
I'm working on a JVC with the same chassis. I am curious, did JVC steal designs from Sony or was it the other way around? The similarity on certain things is crazy.
Hello can you help with setting-adjusting the sync head in this or a similar JVC VCR? can you tell me the test points for the oscilloscope? Or maybe there is a video! thanks in advance! Здравствуйте может сможете помочь, с настройкой-регулировкой синхроголовки в данном или подобном видеомагнитофоне JVC ? может подскажете контрольные точки для осцилографа ? или может видео есть какое! за ранее спасибо!
I have a Blaupunkt RTV-540 and yesterday it worked fine, but as I was going to put in a tape, the tape kind of came in a bit uneven and it ended up getting the tape stuck. I managed to get it out after taking it apart, but now the vcr keeps telling me there is a tape inside even though I got it out. It shuts down after this and keep doing the same thing every time I start it. The motor starts and does the eject motion then shuts down and the display tells there is a tape inside. Could it be the mode switch that got suck somehow? I've been trying to find it, but it's an old VCR from 1989/1990 something, I'm not sure what I'm looking for.. Anyways I'll see if I can find something similar looking like that in your video.
Update: I managed to locate the mode switch, I removed the connector cable to the mode switch and turned the VCR on, it doesn't give the tape message now and starting with the tape inside even lets me press play indicating on the display it's playing for a moment, but then it shuts down automatically again.
Sounds like a mechanical alignment issue. There are generally timing marks to line up all the gears in the mechanism. I am not familiar with Blaupunkt VCRs but they should be fairly similar inside.
Many Blaupunkt and Philips VCR's were made by JVC. At the front-left of the machine (inside), there's a little white plastic flap, which protrudes down from under the cassette mechanism, which pushes on a tiny proximity switch on the PCB. THAT is the sensor for the Tape IN or OUT. If that flap breaks (it does), then you've got a false Tape IN/OUT indication.
I have one of these JVC machines that the tape guide has come loose whats the best way to secure the brass base that goes onto the bottom of the guide block. Would you use epoxy or super glue to secure?
My Hitachi VRC/DVD player will not eject the VHS tape ..I push the on button and the player comes on for about 10 to 15 sec then turns itself off any suggestions ? ?I removed the Tape and cleaned all the heads with alcohol and rolled the gear put the tape back in it started to play than stop and turned itself off and tape will not eject ? used different tapes ...I did this several times to no avail ....HELP
Hi Sir. I have a real good JVC 9600 that works really well just 2 days ago, now It has a real problem loading the tapes and ejecting tapes. I am wondering if by any chance that I could email you some pictures of the problem? I'm in desperate need of your help. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you!! I am a female nurse student I just need a machine to work to convert my mom's memory tapes for her to watch. And JVC is a very good brand and an expensive one too. Looking forwards to hearing from you. Tina.
ok so i am 6 mins in and now i understand. i am out 5 dollars. it is not worth trying to fix it. not when i bought it for 5 bucks. thanks for the video though .

For many of us, which are not technicicans, VHS is a passion.

Brought back a lot of memories. Fixed a boatload of these with the dirty mode switch. Thank You.
Thank you! I'm going to attempt to find and clean a mode switch tomorrow. Your video is giving me some confidence 🙂
That's the spirit. That's how I learned VCRs. Jumped in with both feet. Then I got formal training after I had tinkered for 4 years.

How do you clean the mode switch on a VHS-C? I'm working on a JVC GR-C1, I found the mode switch but I can't get it apart for cleaning.
Good luck. Have to totally take it apart. Would never do one.

Would you use epoxy or super glue to secure?
Jim Reardon Well, super gule works, but you get only 1 crack at it, and if you are slow, it isn't very forgiving.
Do you offer restorations to vcr’s?
I repair them.
Hi, what kind of solder are you using?. I'm trying to educate myself on proper soldering educate. Thanks and a great channel here.
I use 60/40 Tin/Lead. I generally find this is the easiest to work with.
