I didn't have the money to take him to the vet at the time so I did my research and I treated him at home. Had no problems. I put him in the bathtub with some lukewarm water and it popped on its own. I didn't even have to squeeze it. I put some ointment on it and gave him some antibiotics and it was gone in a few weeks. It healed fast. It was probably almost as big as a silver dollar too.
I've had 2 absesses and took care of them myself at home....the difference is a deer has no way of taking care of it properly and it's on it head. It'll most likely die soon.

There is no telling what it is from. Could be anything. Could be from an antler poke..could be an insect bite. Or it could have been rubbing on a tree and a little piece of splinter from the bark got embedded under the skin. As someone who grew up and spent half my life on a ranch and around livestock, I've seen and lanced a whole lot of big swollen absess cysts like this. Literally anything could cause them and they can get huge as hell pretty quickly

It’s a sebaceous cyst as it’s leaking porridge as we like to call it. It’s probably got a stick or stone perhaps a bullet or arrow tip stuck there and the body isolates it forms a sack around it and fills it with white cells and other body fluids and it comes out looking like porridge. It forms a little head and bursts the only thing about this is it will keep sealing and keep filling with fluid unless you remove the sack.
Pretty impressive how he handled the issue with his hoof and then carried on with his day though. Animals are so tough. Just imagining the life of a buck is incredible; to spend your time trying not to be killed many humans, not to be eaten by predatory animals, and then also contending with other bucks for territory/does; It’s impressive, but also a good reminder that we are lucky to have evolved our way out of the food chain.
