  • Cab Shootout - Gallien Krueger NEO 112 vs. Mark Bass 102 HF - Want 2 Check
    In this video, I present you my two cabs:
    The GK NEO 112 II
    The MB 102 HF
    Using my Gallien Krueger MB 500 amp and my Fender Precision Bass, you can hear demos of both those cabs, miked with a SM-57 in close miking mixed with just a little bit of a SM-58 in the room for a sense of space.
    Those two cabs are a great combo together, but I wanted to show you how they sound separately. This way, you'll be able to have a better understanding of the specifics of each cab. My hope is that it can help you decide which one you like better if you can only have one.
    So, which one is it? Tell us in the comments section!

    I have the GK cab, and it has LOTS of bass - sure, it's my settings, but the cab really delivers the lows as well as the mids and highs, and it handles them well.

    • @mikerux
      @mikerux 5 років тому

      moreover, the mic is placed closer to the center of the speaker, so the video does not capture the lowend of the sound it pushes..

    The GK has much better definition. The Mk bass sounds muddy in comparison.

    I thought the GK sounded a little better when played solo, but in the song mix I thought the MB sounded better. And for some reason they seem to compliment each other when played together. If I had to choose I'd take the Mark Bass and just EQ it to get the right balance.

    Great demo! And I really appreciate you setting up your bass properly so that we're hearing actual bass tone instead of mostly fret buzz, like so many UA-cam bass demos.

      I totally agree with this comment! There is this belief that low action makes u a better player or some nonsense. So many bass vids the neck is so straight and the action so low all I hear is fret noise. Jaco played with tons of relief. Loosen up your truss rods UA-cam. Great video bro, very succinct

    Great little demo. Yea I can see how some people wanted both cabs on ground but I think these sou d tests never capture true bass response anyways. What you did was great it showed the “character” of each who’s is what you CAN hear on these. Its interesting how “open” sounding the 12 is compared to the “tight” sounding 10’s. The mark bass 10’s have a more controlled sound I think sounds a little better for funk and slap style playing while the 12’s sound great for straight ahead p bass playing. great little demo -cheers !

    Both sound great, liked the bottom end of the mark bass, although the gk cut a little bit more though the mix. Having those both cabs on at the same time would make a dream sound

      the GK would have more bottom if it was in contact w/ the floor like the MB is. very different cabs really. MB seems to always have a pronounced low mid. I prefer GK as it's easier to dial in whatever I want.

    You would get a more accurate representation with similar mic placement on each cab. The GK sounds brighter due to the mic placement being on the center of the cone, where as on the MB cab the mic is closer to the edge of the speaker.

    Interesting. A 210 will almost always "sound" better, but, the twelve has an inherent pleasing lag.

    So silly of me, but I'm wondering if you actually considered playing through both cabs? I have used a 210 on top of a 115 (not these cabs but same configurations), sounded pretty good although I prefer the sound of a 410 cabinet for the type of music I play and the mark bass 410 lightweight cab is really sweet IMHO

    The GK is sweet! The Mark Bass sounded dull, like someone rolled the tone off!
    This was consistent was every thing I’ve experienced with Mark Bass. They’ve all lacked clarity and punch! Maybe that’s what their engineers were going after? That warm old 60s / 70s drone in a small, lightweight package!
    Believe me I’ve tried to like Mark Bass amps! I love the concept of getting 800 watts out of a compact size but, it just doesn’t do it for me tone wise.

      I've done numerous shows with the neo 112 and my Gallien-Krueger MB-500 amp. Unless you're playing in an extremely loud band, you should be ok with the 112 with no problem. It can get pretty loud if you have a good amp to use it with.

    Great presentation thank you for that. Strange that the larger (warmer sounding) 12" speaker had more highs than 2 x10s. My honest opinion by tweaking your tones you could have them sound identical. Looks wise I prefer MarkBass.

    • @MrBlahdiblahdi
      @MrBlahdiblahdi 4 роки тому

      It's not strange at all. The 112 cabinet has a 12" driver and a horn tweeter. The highs are coming from the horn.

    • @MrBlahdiblahdi
      @MrBlahdiblahdi 4 роки тому

      The 210HF also has a horn tweeter but i am guessing it is smaller and crosses over at a higher freq. compared to the GK, therefore the horn in the GK pushes more air. .

    • @MVargabass
      @MVargabass 2 роки тому

      It’s also because of the mic placement. If you place the mic further away from the middle of the speaker, then you will get a darker sound

  • @shipsahoy1793
    @shipsahoy1793 3 роки тому +1

    The GK was better. I have a GK CX210 and an Ampeg 115 for my tone. My Peavey Headliner 210 adds lows and used to pull the rest of the power from the amp like your 102. The Ampeg is powered through another amp via the line out since the 15” is 4 ohms. Also I use a customizable multieffects processor into the effects loop for whatever sounds. I think the 102 is better than the Peavey, but they both just don’t cut through the mix imo..
