My kid (3) loves those play kits from Target’s dollar section.
A lunch box as a container is a genius idea - I usually have a million things just in my purse.
And, as you said, the biggest secret is to keep all those toys and activities exclusively for going out.
The dollar section has some AMAZING finds! I love going through there, especially during back to school season!

Magnets that are large enough to not fit in their mouths are good! I also like the Poke-a-Dot books at that age, and scarves in an old wipes container for them to pull out and put back in!
