    I have over 500 X dna matches on Gedmatch but I am of Jewish heritage so that is the likely reason. I just found 80 people who are all Jewish of Sephardic and AJ origin and we all match across same area of X interesting. Endogamy in action lol.

    I have a huge brick wall! The funny thing is my brick wall is in my tree twice! My parents are 1st cousins 1x removed, mom's paternal grandmother and dad's maternal gr-grandmother are the same person! I accessed the charts for male/female xdna so I'm hoping to isolate some of my xdna matches this way. I have had my dna done, a paternal aunt and a maternal uncle. All parents and grandparents have passed, so not a lot of options! I checked to see if we have matching segments in our dna, it's a no!

    I uploaded my DNA from 23andMe and Ancestry to GEDmatch so the police can use it for investigations. I love how the police are closing Cold cases this way

    This was great! Can you post screenshots of your Access input tables? I have used Access in the past.

    i'm confused if they only count the total cms of the autosomal dna and not count the cms of x and you have a significant amount of x cms could you add that to the total of autosomal cms and get an autosomal+x = total cms or are they completely separate and can't be combined ... I am so knew to all this and trying to learn .. Thank you in advance

      They can be combined to represent the total autosomal DNA you share with your match. AncestryDNA does this, without disclosing which matches have X DNA. A cousin I've been tracing for a long time, according to our AncestryDNA match, shares 309 cMs over 13 segments. But when I ran my analysis of her DNA on GEDmatch, I counted 11. Then I checked for X DNA, and sure enough, there was the 12th. So the 13th segment is one that is smaller than 7 cMs, and AncestryDNA is counting it towards that total amount of DNA I share with her. The fact that GEDmatch separates out X DNA doesn't have any larger significance, other than the differences in how it's analyzed. Hope that helps!

    I just compared my x DNA with this person who also did Ancestry DNA and she is 11.7 centimorgans.

    I was told several times to ignore X matches that they are meaningless. The best I see is maybe 25cM on 23andme and its only a match on X.

    Thanks for discussing X-DNA on Gedmatch application. I’ve loaded my ancestry raw data, so
    has my presumed half sister. We believe we share the same father. We’ve compared our kits for the X -DNA
    with the Graphic result. There is a completed solid Blue line through Chromosome 23. Is this our confirmation
    that we share the same biological father. Thank you for your help.

    Hello - thank you for this video. I am hoping you can help me with my question. I have a match I am looking at that according to Ancestry shares 443 cM of DNA. When I go to GEDmatch it says that we share 493.1 cM and also lists an X DNA match of 134.2. I have found that matches for this individual on Ancestry appear less than what they should be across the board. Am I correct to presume that the 493.1 cM of autosomal DNA and 134.2 cM of X DNA actually makes a total match of 627.3 cM - which would be the difference between first cousins and first cousins once removed? If this is the case - because this is possibly significant to my search - is there anywhere that references that the total value of a match is in fact the sum of the autosomal DNA cMs and the X DNA cMs? I've had great difficulty in finding this answer and I sincerely appreciate if you are able to clarify for me. Thank you!

    I am still lost. So do the X DNA matches with zero on the autosomal have any significance ? I have a young lady who is in between me and my Uncle. Only for the X DNA.

    • @NewMillionaire
      @NewMillionaire 7 років тому

      She is a 34 cm--Centimorgans and my Uncle (maternal) is a 29.1. I'm trying to explain this in the best layman's terms. I JUST DISCOVERED SHE IS RELATED TO ME ON MY FATHER's SIDE

    • @TheDIYGenealogist
      @TheDIYGenealogist  7 років тому +4

      Absolutely! Not everyone who shares X DNA with with you (or someone else) will appear on multiple chromosomes. I'm not sure why GEDmatch does it this way. It does seem to create this impression that those matches don't "count" somehow. But if you're using solid match criteria, you won't experience more false positives with X DNA than with any other chromosome.

      Heather--I'm trying to determine is she is indeed related-and how many generations. We're both on Ancestry.com. I'm trying to see if I can locate her through there. She is 34 centimorgans to me. My maternal Uncle is listed at 26. Just found out she is related on my paternal side. Need to understand the centimorgans and does this state she's a first cousin? We need to know. Thanks! States this is through the X DNA

    x DNA has 0 but when I do the autosomal it say we have 4 segments dose that me they r family.

    • @TheDIYGenealogist
      @TheDIYGenealogist  7 років тому

      Depends on the size of the segments. Not everyone who is related to you will match you on your X DNA. This is just an introduction to this particular chromosome pair. Autosomal matches use the 22 other chromosome pairs where someone could also match you. If you have 4 segments with someone on any combination of chromosomes, and they're at least 7cM/500 SNPs, you're probably related to them.
